John Tabin could be right. Maybe it was a publicity stunt all along and Trump fooled some of us into thinking he was actually going to run. Hey, he convinced Charles Krauthammer.

But I'm afraid Tabin misses my point. Trump's poll numbers had plummeted. He was riding high in April and shot down in May. If it was a publicity stunt, then it was a publicity stunt that had run its course.

I submit to you that if Osama bin Laden hadn't been killed, Trump wouldn't have folded -- publicity stunt or no publicity stunt.

He even convinced many of the writers on AS who were all bent out of shape about his running.

"I submit to you that if Osama bin Laden hadn't been killed, Trump wouldn't have folded - publicity stunt or no publicity stunt."
I am going to reamain silent on that gem, but Mr. Goldstein you owe me one.

Whatever Trump's motivation and/or grasp on reality was about a potential presidential run, it was probably, like so much of his net worth and 'brand value'...'mostly in his mind'....where it inbreeds, causing great mutation of thought and decision-making.

No matter what you wingnuts say, Obama got Osama!

Greta| 5.16.11 @ 11:02PM

No, the wing nuts are saying obama got osama. The rest of those in the real world know it was waterboarded intel and months of painstaking followup, great military planning and execution, followed by the worse handling of success in the history of the world. Only fools would still be backing this empty suit. The only question will he be trying to take victory lap number 7,561 on election day next year claiming credit for something he had little to do with and almost blew with his 16 hours of deciding.

I don't know what world you're living in but it sure isn't the real world. Everything you just spouted above is Rush Limbaugh talking points. Apparently that's where you conservative nut jobs go to figure out what to think. It's almost comical watching you people grasping at straws.

simon templar| 5.17.11 @ 11:32AM

Yeah, and they are damned accurate and reasoned talking points unlike the ones you get from the state socialistic media, Chris "Tingles" Matthews, and the 'Red' House. You talk about the real world? Well, here in the real world..poll after poll has shown the vast American majority not buying your load of crap, give Bush and the military most of the credit, and were turned off of your messiah's self indulgence and lack of class. His bump was anemic. Ok, I suggest you consult your 'We Can' manual for a response and contact your local communist union representative.

Ok, little king...now settle down and go out and play in the yard. Mom's got work to do. She will call you went it's dinner.

Bob Grant| 5.16.11 @ 10:58PM

Just as well he quit. He displayed poor judgment showing up at that correspondence dinner when it was obvious he was going to be make a fool of by the speakers. Hey Trump, go back to your "most beautiiifull piece of property on the Planet" with your 7th wife.

Greta| 5.16.11 @ 10:59PM

Republicans can count their blessing he is gone.

John Tabin| 5.17.11 @ 12:31AM

This isn't worth another post, but no, Trump would not be running if bin Laden were still alive. The timing of his announcement is driven by the renewal of Celebrity Apprentice, not by the polls (and Trump's poll numbers were artificially inflated anyway).

Stefan Stackhouse| 5.17.11 @ 9:16AM

It is always good to send out the clowns to warm up the crowd before the more serious players take the stage. Now it is time for the clowns to leave the stage.

Trump's clown act never was very good, though. He had the orange hair, but no red nose, and he should have just kept his mouth shut and mimed.

Younger Soldier| 5.17.11 @ 9:39AM

Trump had no chance in hell of winning. Not only is he an attention whore but no one with hair like that will ever be president. But I wish he had run. It would have been like watching a bad accident.

simon templar| 5.17.11 @ 11:39AM

We really do not give a rats ass what you think...troll. We do not need you to tell us the obvious.
