The Spectacle Blog

Forget the speculation about which member of the Paul family, Ron or Rand, will throw their hat into the ring for 2012. Gary Johnson is running for president, ensuring that the Republican field will have at least one libertarian-leaning candidate. The former New Mexico governor announced today in New Hampshire — appropriately enough, the Live Free or Die State. Johnson endorsed Ron Paul in 2008.

I listened to him in an interview and Liked what I saw. Will be doing more checking into his voting record.

A libertarian does not endorse government funded abortion or abortion of a fetus until it is "viable." He's simply another liberal and I don't see that going anywhere.

Until it's viable?

A fetus IS a human life, and God considers it viable, dear sir.

Only thing I can remember about this guy is how stoned he sounded when he rattled on and on about legalizing marijuana.

My platform is to veto EVERYTHING!

What very little I know of Johnson, I possibly favor. His immigration ideas are sound/intelligent [no citizenship, temporary work visas etc]. His profession aversion to raising taxes peaks my interest in him. Legalizing pot, ah! Like the fact that he's a businessman who built his from scratch into personal wealth. Want to learn more about him. Might be a player!!!

On spending and the deficit he is he is one of the better candidates that the Republicans are fielding.

You misread the libertarian position on abortion. The LP opposes ANY government support of abortion. It is ambivalent about laws that make it illegal. In terms of the current struggles in DC about funding abortion, they walk arm in arm with pro-life Republicans.

Gary Johnson has real life executive experience and a demanor that might actually gather a lot of votes. Ron Paul is more like an old testament prophet thundering wisely in the wilderness. We all know what happend to those ancient prophets.
