The Spectacle Blog

Such a peach, today’s column - “The Truth, Still Inconvenient” - by Paul Krugman, economist and former consultant to the company that created the global warming industry, ‘monitizing’ (sic) its relationship with green groups, scientists and, I’m pretty sure, economists in pursuit of creating that better atmosphere for enacting policies to add value to their uneconomic investments…purchased in anticipation of creating a global warming industry.

It begins:

“So the joke begins like this: An economist, a lawyer and a professor of marketing walk into a room. What’s the punch line? They were three of the five ‘expert witnesses’ Republicans called for last week’s Congressional hearing on climate science.”

Sneer quotes! Yeah that’s a good one. Like they’re Al Gore or something. And what the hell would an economist know about climate? What chance is there that an economist could add to the debate?

What would a statistician and Wharton School forescasting expert know about models? Or a lawyer about EPA’s proposed regulations? Sheesh.

Here’s one, Paul. The IPCC hires a railroad engineer and economist, who is oddly hailed by the — wait for it! — New York Times as ‘the Indian climatologist who heads the panel’. My ribs!

Here’s an even better one:

An economist, who “got $50,000 from Enron to serve on the company’s phantom-like advisory board” - that’s that company that invented the global warming industry - derides an economist as having expertise on global warming in a column proclaiming, as an economist, to possess ‘the truth’ about global warming, unlike those silly lawyers, marketing professors (actually, statistician and forecasting expert) and, erm, economists.

Man, life sure is funny on the Left.

"that's that company that invented the global warming industry

"Since [Krugman] pieces were harshly critical of Enron, there's no scandal."

And.

"The Enron sugar daddies include Weekly Standard editor William Kristol ($100,000), CNBC host and National Review Online columnist Lawrence Kudlow ($50,000), Weekly Standard contributing editor and Sunday Times of London columnist Irwin Stelzer (approximately $50,000) and Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan ($25,000-$50,000; apparently she cannot recall the exact sum)."

Whom all wrote puff pieces which is scandalous.

Goddamn you people are stupid.

Wayne | 4.4.11 @ 2:06PM

I would say anyone who says "you people" is a complete ass.

beebop| 4.4.11 @ 7:03PM

Too much credit being given. Half ass at best.

tonypal| 4.4.11 @ 2:29PM

jharp, there really is no end to your stupidity, is there? I love the classic mindless, leftist technique of attacking others, as opposed to dealing with inconvenient facts about one of your own. Here's a fairly small yet consequential list for you, which details a few of the democrats that have been involved over the years with Enron:

http://www.american-partisan.c.....1/0216.htm

My advice to you is to go back to what you do best, being a lousy sperm donor that got someone drunk enough to have sex with him, thereby allowing you to procreate and have a daughter who is deaf (probably due to your defective DNA), who has to deal with a piece of human debris who would rather spend his time calling people names on a website than working a bit harder to earn the money to pay for his daughter's medical bills.

God jharp is a shitty sperm donor.

jharp| 4.4.11 @ 2:52PM

tonlypal you are one ignorant and loathsome human being.

One you have no idea, none, nada, zero, zilch whose sperm fathered my daughter.

And my daughter has no medical bills. None. Zero. Nada. Zilch.

As matter of fact we are spending our surplus by paying for and sending her pharmacy school.

Goddamn you people are stupid.

Occam's Tool| 4.4.11 @ 7:43PM

I don't know, JHarp; I seem to recall that you're the one who ignored twenty year followup studies on the Three Mile Island incident.

You know, JHarp, you could try not doing Blue on Blue to your fellow Lefties.

INstigator| 4.5.11 @ 3:09AM

Jhap... yep, pieces ar missng

Suicide is painless

BruceJ| 4.5.11 @ 4:15PM

There is nothing quite as stupid - or at least ignorant - as a conservtive in denial. They're such mental slaves to their corporate puppeteers! :-D

nohype| 4.4.11 @ 3:19PM

"Whom all wrote puff pieces which is scandalous. Goddamn you people are stupid."

What an interesting pair of sentences.

jca| 4.4.11 @ 2:18PM

I'm not sure exactly what this blog post is supposed to say. it seems to admit that having an economist, marketing professor, and lawyer on a climate science panel is not a good idea.

Really, it just goes to show that Republicans have to reach to the very bottom of the barrel to drum up anyone who can say (with any sort of credibility) that climate change isn't happening.

So, the madness continues...clearly this author buys the republican and oil money machine hook, line, and sinker.

LiveFreeOrDie| 4.5.11 @ 12:21AM

Was it the republican oil/money machine that shouted from the rooftops that man's pollution was causing the earth to cool? Was it them who changed their minds and with a straight face told everyone that man's pollution was now causing the earth to warm? Now it's simply "change" and anyone who questions these "facts" is ridiculed and disregarded as a fool. These facts alone would make any thinking man a skeptic. Now add about 2 ounces of knowledge and the scam becomes very apparent. The madness continues, on this we can agree.

BruceJ| 4.5.11 @ 4:14PM

Whatever pads his stock portfolio, right?

jharp| 4.4.11 @ 2:26PM

"I'm not sure exactly what this blog post is supposed to say"

Then you ain't very f*cking bright.

This blog post, exactly like every other blog post here, is an pitiful attempt using lies and half truths to mislead in an attempt to discredit liberal democrats.

And about of third of Americans are too f*cking stupid to realize it.

Congratulations on being part of that third.

God you people are stupid.

Pete| 4.4.11 @ 2:29PM

Rough day for reading comprehension? You just blew up a fellow moron. Well done.

Nolann Ryann| 4.4.11 @ 2:32PM

Reading comprehension has never been in his tool box. The only thing that twit peddles is mindless left wing talking points that he takes directly from the Center for Am Progress.

beebop| 4.4.11 @ 7:06PM

I giggled all of the way through it. Don't you just love the just desserts rendered by a knee jerk?

tonypal| 4.4.11 @ 2:34PM

Wow, you've already answered my question from a previous post. There really is no end to your stupidity. Try reading the post by jca, obviously a fellow traveler in that universe of sub-human intellects that you inhabit. Read very slowly and ask for help if you're still confused.

God jharp is a shitty sperm donor, and a stupid one as well.

jharp| 4.4.11 @ 2:43PM

Still obsessing over my jism?

Why don't you get yourself a real life friend who will share his jism with you?

I am 100% heterosexual and happily married. And I have zero interest in sharing my ejaculate with you.

beebop| 4.4.11 @ 7:07PM

You're still a douche.

Pete| 4.4.11 @ 2:27PM

No one here denies that the climate changes all the time...always has, always will. Interesting choice of words by you leaving out the 'man-made' part.

The One Who Runs Like a Duck| 4.4.11 @ 2:33PM

Keep up the good work Gayharp. This is where we spend our bribe money. Sure if anybody looks at any of this it won't hold together. The science is shoddy, the cure is worse than the disease and won't even provide a cure. It is just a symbolic gesture to allow us to pay bribe money to our friends. That is why we must fight to keep it all. I didn't realize you were playing a straight guy on this site so sorry for blowing your cover so to speak. They probably already noticed. Guys like you with daddy issues are pretty easy to spot. Do you realize that if we keep selling Chevy Volts at the current rate we will change out the "bad (not subsidized by our friends)" cars in 10,000 years? Now that is what I call progress. Green energy is right around the corner in the cosmic sense. Finally we will try KSM at gitmo like I always wanted. Notre Dame has made it by UConn just as I predicted. All that remains on my agenda is to beat Boehner at a round of golf. Halliburton is calling the shots, baby.

jharp| 4.4.11 @ 2:49PM

"Keep up the good work Gayharp"

Always gets to gayness and men's jism with you closeted homos.

A suggestion. Why don't you and tonypal hook up. His looking for fresh ejaculate and your trolling for gays should be the perfect hookup.

Have fun boys.

Stop bending over for it, gayharp. Don't let these guys push you around. I told you this is important. Our bribe money is dependent on you keeping to the point. Your catcher instincts are getting you in trouble. Think Chevy Volt, military tribunals in Gitmo, wind farms, rendition, golf every weekend and most importantly about me, your President. KSM will fry in Gitmo, baby.

Richard Baker| 4.4.11 @ 2:36PM

When I read Krugman, which is an ordeal, I have trouble believing that he has a Ph.D. and received the Nobel Prize. His kind don't seem to have much between the ears, do they?

God jharp you are really stupid. Get out much?

jharp| 4.4.11 @ 2:44PM

"When I read Krugman, which is an ordeal, I have trouble believing that he has a Ph.D. and received the Nobel Prize."

That is because you are stupid.

Occam's Tool| 4.4.11 @ 7:50PM

JHarp, your conversation grows tedious. Before I ask you to touch my monkey, (now is the time on Shprockets where we dance) may I suggest the use of a thesaurus?

Try the following for variation: ignorant, dense, foolish, barmy, daft, not the full shilling, fatuous, gormless, off your trolley, thick (as a brick).

Thanks. You know, you were right on public stadiums.

Jonah| 4.4.11 @ 8:39PM

SNL Memories of Mike Myers still make me laugh. His movies suck though.

Occam's Tool| 4.4.11 @ 7:45PM

Mr. Krugman is a brilliant economist in his area of study. Doubtful as to his other skills. Military knowledge, medical knowledge is nada.

Your cut and paste skills are far superior to what would pass for "reasoning" in, say, a reasonable person. And I mean that in the nicest possible way, you douche.

Truth to Power| 4.4.11 @ 11:03PM

You see a hot day, or a rainy day, or a snowy day or a dry day or a tornado or even possibly a hurricane might be climate. This is when we are making arguments for climate change. When they are being used in some other way then they are just the weather. Get it? We have watched the left wing media and so called government funded scientists do this for the last ten years or so. We would be stupid if we fell for nonsense like the moronic Jharp. Jharp is actually the perfect guy to follow the exciting Al Gore around.

Brubaker| 4.5.11 @ 8:48AM

Of course your mindless use of profanity and ad hominum attack must be proof of your superior intellect.

make my day| 4.4.11 @ 3:15PM

jharp is like some petulent little child or the kid who always asked questions after the teacher explained something about what was on a test and he wasn't paying attention and then asked what was on a test. All of the kids in the class thought he was an a*hole but he tought he was the smartest kid in the room. I read this guys comments all over the place and his talk of him(he needs to explain himself about him) and The best thing one can do about petulent all about me children is to ignore them. Most of the people who read this site are successful educated people so why stoop to the level of this person. He thinks everyone is stupid well good for him,as I couldn't give a shit and by acknowledging his talking points you are giving in to the petulant childs needs of somehow being important, and giving in to his need for attention. He is like a fly at a picnic ,or a screaming child throwing a fit because mommy will not give him what he wants.AS Frank Zappa put it who you jivin with that cosmic debris. Answering to his views are like giving in to the petulant child. Anyone who ends their posts with god you people are stupid basically needs to be taken out back. He can tell me how enlightened he is when he needs a plumber to help him eat his lunch. Ignore this guy. He is on here on the time and needs to get a job other than being a paid troll End of story.

jharp| 4.4.11 @ 3:23PM

"Ignore this guy."

Did Jharp say 'jism' ???

Why don't you stick to writing letters to Penthouse and leave us grown ups alone?

ACynic| 4.4.11 @ 3:59PM

jharp is a provacateur; whether or not he actually believes what he writes is unknownabe, except to himself.
The ONLY way to make folks like him to go away is to completely an totally ignore him.
So, do not respone in any way to his comments; they are meant only to raise your blood pressure and to bring YOU DOWN to his/her level.

Dixie Pixie| 4.4.11 @ 4:36PM

What about Jhart.
I thought he, she or Mr. It is the best operative the White House could come up with to patrol the TAS website
The best way to handle Jhart is to beat Mr. It silly with Facts and Logic.
Then Mr. It will not come out and play.

After all, Trolls hate daylight and the Obama Trolls are the best haters.

Truth to Power| 4.4.11 @ 5:55PM

I think you are over estimating Jharp's intelligence. He thinks he is an important cog in the Obama machine. He thinks he serves a purpose by being here day after day. After the butt kicking in the Fall, he still thinks he is serving some purpose. You need to get down to 70's in IQ to be that foolish. Give him a couple kicks. Savage his vanities. That is all he deserves.

Axel Edgren| 4.4.11 @ 4:08PM

"And what the hell would an economist know about climate?"

Um, the environment and its qualities are an integral part of economic activity. Knowing about the adverse affects of more CO2 in the atmosphere is highly economically relevant.

beebop| 4.5.11 @ 5:37AM

Discussing possible effects is hardly the same as identifying cause. Just sayin'

Dixie Pixie| 4.4.11 @ 4:43PM

Paul " Barking Mad " Krugman is the Far, Far, Farthest Left writer / hack and is employed at the NYT to do so.
The only connection with Reality "Barking Mad" Krugman has, is the writing orders he receives from his employers.

Anon| 4.4.11 @ 6:47PM

What a vapid, mindless, and, disingenuous (at least I hope it's disingenuous) response to Krugman's column. Perhaps we should ask him to produce a birth certificate? I suggest you spend more than 10 minutes thinking about what you write from now on, lest you make an intellectual laughingstock of your entire political movement (though I'd say it's probably too late for that, at this point).

Truth to Power| 4.4.11 @ 7:00PM

Why do progressives always feel the need to project?

beebop| 4.4.11 @ 7:12PM

Smugness?

Jonah| 4.4.11 @ 8:41PM

Obtuse arrogance?

Dixie Pixie| 4.4.11 @ 7:56PM

Greetings Anon
Funny I never claimed to be more than a small mischievous spirit tossing a few concepts out for the amusement and enlightenment of the TAS readership.
I have certainly never presumed to be a intellectual heavy-weight.
Nor have I claimed to have the Psychic skills seeming routinely granted to Liberal writers.
So what was your point anyway.

PS....Have you ever read and analyzed Paul "Barking Mad" Krugman's work.
It is like looking into a bizarre alternative universe with few points of congruence with this reality.

BruceJ| 4.5.11 @ 4:12PM

Spoken like a true mental pixie. From Dixie no less.

INstigator| 4.5.11 @ 3:25AM

Probably J-hap under another guise.

beebop| 4.5.11 @ 5:38AM

nope. too intelligent and cogent for jharp.

MichaelJones| 4.5.11 @ 5:15AM

Mr Horner, what does an OIL/COAL Corporation or the US Chamber of Commerce know (or chooses to ignore or distort) about Global Warming?
Another "paid for" smear website to discredit and confuse the sound science of Global warming.

Brubaker| 4.5.11 @ 8:50AM

As soon as the globe starts to actually warm, let us know.

BruceJ| 4.5.11 @ 4:00PM

Already happenin' there, Brubaker. Pay attention.

Nolann Ryann| 4.5.11 @ 1:40PM

Sound science? That's a real laugh. Ever heard of the bogus hockey stick distribution? How about soundly fabricated. Yeah you'd never get it because you're one of the brilliant minds that buys the biggest scam since Ponzi schemes were hatched. Need some Amway?

BruceJ| 4.5.11 @ 4:04PM

You cannot pick and choose your science and select tiny microblobs of the data in a vacuum to prove your point. The hockey stick is just fine when taken in context, as is virtually *all* of the other mountain of evidence available. If you're not a scientist and ACTUALLY want to talk sensibly about it, better start learning. If thats too hard, then at least have the decency to understand what science is. If that's too hard, then I suggest you go back to tooth gnashing or whatever it is you do for a living.

Jonah| 4.5.11 @ 3:01PM

I thought you fools changed the term to "Climate Change." Better get with the Marxist program, eco-nut.

"Sound science of Global Warming"--LMAO!!
Funniest thing I've heard in a long time.

BruceJ| 4.5.11 @ 4:06PM

Can you be more specific? Or are glib but hollow henpecks the best you can do?

Climate change is more precise, and there are yet even better terms for it that are probably too complex in meaning for most readers of this website to comprehend, but global warming is perfectly suitable as a catch term for the issue.

Kim Feil| 4.5.11 @ 2:08PM

While these people name call, methane is spewing and is at least 20 times more warming than C02. The rapid growth in drilling for natural gas is essentially a non-regulated, self policed industry. The drillers know that these invisible leaks will cost them money to contain, and so they allow the leaks at the expense of mankind for the almighty dollar. So while you name call each other...this continues to happen. Let us come together for the common good of man to save himself from his own extinction. Mandate methane and emission controls in the oil and gas industry!

Hanover| 4.5.11 @ 2:28PM

Got some proof to back up your spittle-flecked rant, Kim?

I wish we could mandate silence for all of you stupid, bug-eyed Marxists.

BruceJ| 4.5.11 @ 4:07PM

Ah, I see - a good old fashioned American wishing he could defy the Constitution. Fascism feels good eh?

BruceJ| 4.5.11 @ 4:11PM

Kim, I agree that methane controls should be put on the industry now, as these leaks do not help - but it is only true on a molecule-by-molecule basis that methane is 25 or so times stronger than CO2 as a "greenhouse" gas. CO2 is so much more voluminous in the atmosphere that its effect still outweighs the effects of methane. For now.

When the permafrost begins melting and the trapped methane from the polar regions start releasing at increasing rates, that could change quickly. The preliminary effects of this problem are already making themselves evident, it's just the timing that's TBD.

BruceJ| 4.5.11 @ 4:00PM

Mr. Horner, you miss the point entirely. It's not that Krugman, as an Economist, is any expert on climate change. He's not - but he's smart enough to recognize that *real* scientists doing *real* research earn *real* results, and he points out that honest skeptics, when presented with evidence, will get the message, much to the chagrin of those who care nothing for the science and seek demagoguery instead.

I don't want there to be evidence of human-induced climate change any more than you and your corporate masters want it. Nonetheless, it's there laid open and plain for all the world to see, and *honest* critics will hve no choice but to acknowledge it, as even George Bush, Newt Gingrich and several other GOP leaders have already done.

Jonah| 4.5.11 @ 4:57PM

Who let the eco-Nazis out of their cage? There's nothing 'settled' about Globaloney Warming science, clown. That train left the station a long time ago. Just remember to 'hide the decline', doofas! lol
