On Friday, The Washington Post published an article by Richard Goldstone, the South African jurist whose UN report excoriated Israel for deliberately targetting civilians in Gaza during its defensive operation there from December 2008 to January 2009.

Well, now Goldstone states Israel did no such thing and if he knew now what he knew then his report would have drawn a different conclusion.

While I suppose I ought to praise Goldstone for being willing to admit he was wrong. Yet I am troubled as to how he could have ever believed that it was Israel’s policy to wantonly kill Palestinian civilians.

Of course when one spends any amount of time amongst UN apparatchiks one is suspectible to believe any aspersion cast against Israel at face value.

Here's a "funny" postscript. In noting that the NYT refused to run the OpEd for "political" reasons, Israel's largest newspaper, "Idiot", referred to the Washington Post asa "conservative" (shamrani) newspaper. Just saw this on the recptionist's desk.

Now you know what Our journalists are like.

No one will own up to his responsibility, not the Germans for WWII, not Russia for Afghanistan, not America for treating the Mideast as an oil spigot.

It's your damned fault Alan. You stupid, traitorous liberals stop us from drilling for our own oil. Dumbass.

If civilians were killed, it's because typically the militants that the Israelis are shooting at are holed up right next to them.

In such instances, it's an act of murder on the part of the militants, not the Israelis.

I don't blame Arabs/Shiites, I hold the Germans culpable-- they created this never-ending regional insurgency at least as far as Israel is concerned; and the Germans will not admit it. They are sinilar to the Russians who wont admit what Stalin did to Finland, to Spain, to Poland, the Baltic, in 1940. Or how Stalin killed almost as many of his own people as Hitler did.
So the situation is hopeless at this time and for the foreseeable future.

Ever think there may be some motive to reform himself for some new reason? Nice for him to put a knot on Israel's head and now be viewed as a good guy for his contrition. Now he's reloaded with new credibilty. Cocked and ready to smack Israel again. There's sap born somewhere every minute.

Mr. Goldstein ... Why doesn't it surprise me that you would defend Israel's aggression. Clearly a spun and misleading commentary on the actual events being reported. Your whining should be titled "The Greatest Novel Ever Fabricated". How really sad.
