Pronouncing him a “failure” on spending, over 30 Republican freshmen have sent Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid a pointed letter demanding the Senate pass a continuing resolution. Here’s the text:

Mr. Reid,

We the undersigned call on you and the Senate to pass a long-term Continuing Resolution; a resolution that hears the calls of the American people and makes reasonable, responsible spending cuts.

Mr. Reid, your record on spending in the Senate is one of failure. You have failed to pass a budget, failed to restrain spending, and failed to put our country on sound fiscal footing.

We do not accept your failure as our own.

The American people did not send us here to fail. Make no mistake: any government shutdown is the result of your lack of leadership. America has a $14 trillion debt and you offered a mere $6 billion in cuts. The House heard the calls of the American people and offered $61 billion in cuts, but the Senate has not sent us a Continuing Resolution in return.

We have received nothing from the Senate except denials of the dire straits of our nation’s fiscal health.

The House of Representatives is accomplishing what we were elected to do. We’ve cut spending. We’ve terminated wasteful programs. We’ve funded the government.

Mr. Reid, we are letting you know that we will rally on the Senate steps every day until you pass a long-term Continuing Resolution. We call on all Americans to join our fight in restoring our country’s fiscal health.

The House of Representatives is doing our job, Mr. Reid. The Senate needs to start doing theirs.

Mr. Reid, it’s time to pass a bill.

Bound together and determined,

This comes as the Republican leadership prepares a Government Shutdown Prevention Act.

It's about time someone went after ol Harryars [certainly the voters of Navada were spineless to do so, when they had the chance]. Maybe his state is an extention of California, or maybe HQ's for the AFL-CIO, apparently!!!!!!!!!

Oldefarte| 3.30.11 @ 4:21PM

PS: Ol Harryars from Navada is a reflection of Big Dick from Illinois, Decrepit Nancy and Barbara from California, and Bullexcrementing Charlie for NY. As Forrest Gump proclaimed, obviously these states' voters practice the art of STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES!!!!!!!!

JP| 3.30.11 @ 3:49PM

I'm not sure who this letter will upset more: Reid or Lugar.

bd57| 3.30.11 @ 3:50PM

It's a good first step.

Republicans have to keep emphasizing how preposterous it is to call $100B in cuts in a budget that's $1.0 trillion+ in the red "draconian."

"If we cut nothing, we're burying the next generation in debt it will never be able to pay. How is that responsible leadership?"

J.C.Eaton| 3.30.11 @ 3:55PM

Good for them. More help is coming in 2012. Drive on, Freshmen P.S. Think about a little shuffle in the leadership while you're at it.

Gasman| 3.30.11 @ 4:00PM

How come it was only 30 + new GOP reps? I thought we got 62 in the last election?

John Boehner, profile in cowardice.

Ryan| 3.30.11 @ 4:07PM

Short, sweet, and to the point. This is how we need to keep the debate.

Floyd Looney | 3.30.11 @ 4:39PM

Good for them.

Of course when the Democrats shut down the government, 99% of the media will report the opposite.

They will receive a response from gay poetic cowboys.

I applaud the spirit. Let's see more of it, and stick it to those leftist demagogues!

But...um...freshmen? As someone else mentioned, aren't there more than 60 of you? Where's the other half?

And don't break your arms patting yourself on the back. Cutting $60B from a 1.5T deficit (less than 4 percent) is so minimal as to be beneath contempt. You were sent to Washington to accomplish a whole lot more.

Continuing Revolution Rally

When: Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 12pm

Where
Robert A. Taft Memorial, Washington, DC (North West of the Capitol Building, Directly West of Upper Senate Park). Click on map to go to Google for directions.

Why
Patriots across the nation spoke loudly last November. You voted for change. You voted for real fiscal leadership.

Unfortunately Washington doesn’t get it. President Obama and the Reid Senate continue to ignore the fiscal crisis while the House dithers around the edges of spending cuts. We need bold leadership and we need it now. IT’S TIME TO ACT. Join us on the National Mall this week to turn up the heat on entrenched Washington politicians.

Tell them:
· You want the full $100 billion in cuts they promised
· You want the $105 billion for Obamacare implementation cut now.
· You expect the courage to lead us out of the financial hole Washington has dug.
Join the Tea Party Patriots Continuing Revolution Rally on the National Mall this Thursday.

While American families have been forced to pair back their budgets President Obama doubles down on costly programs like Obamacare and high speed trains we can’t afford. This week Harry Reid will participate in a rally to protect entitlements. That’s not leadership. That’s just plain irresponsible governing.

We can’t kick this can down the road again. It’s time to make a stand and put the screws to the Washington establishment. Join the Continuing Revolution.

Confirmed Speakers:
Tea Party Patriots Co-Founder Jenny Beth Martin,Rep Mike Pence (IN), Rep. Michele Bachmann (MN), Rep. Steve King (IA), Rep. Louie Gohmert (TX),
Rep. Raul Labrador (ID), Rep. Joe Walsh (IL), Rep. Ted Poe (TX),
Rep. Allen West (FL) Rep. Jim Jordan (OH), Rep. Tom Graves (GA),

Looking back on election night, I have to wonder how many conservatives were secretly chuckling when Reid won re-election. I also think we all knew having Reid remain majority leader for another 2 years would be a significant plus for republicans heading in 2012. The guy is truly a gift.

big bob| 3.30.11 @ 11:53PM

talk (and words) are cheap. I want to see votes when they count. This is surreal in that we sent 60+ freshmen to D.C. and they have already forgotten why they were sent and what they are supposed to do. Send all the letters they want...I want votes.

Richard Baker| 3.31.11 @ 8:28AM

Reid is a disgrace to his office. Part of the responsibilities of the Senate is to fund by budgeting for the operation of the government. This bum wants to be taken seriously?
