A man of faith in a godless age is hitting Americans where it hurts.
Mr. and Mrs. American Spectator Reader, let P.J. O’Rourke talk sense to your kids.
In Britain, defending your property can get you life.
The debacle of this president’s administration is both a cause and a symptom of the decline of American values. Unless Congress impeaches him, that decline will go on unchecked. An eminent jurist surveys the damage and assesses the chances for the recovery of our culture.
It won’t take long for conservatives to scratch this presidential wannabe off their 2008 scorecard.
The American Christmas, like the songs that celebrate it, makes room for everybody under the rainbow. Is that why so many people seem to be hostile to it?
Was the President done in by the economy, or by the politics of the economy?

I was looking for an article of 700 words or so that explained why the Libyan war is a bad idea. But I was surprised and elated to see that your response shows once again that "brevity is the soul of wit." You have captured the reason with 7 words: "John Kerry is in favor of it "!! Thank you!!!

he is in favor now, but he will be against it when convenient

The only thing that could provide a positive note to this involvment is if Jane Fonda went to to Libya to man one of Gadaffi's AA guns.

All the common enemies are for the Libyan Adventure. Kerry. Obama. Mrs. Clinton. McCain. Lieberman. Kristol. Miss Graham. By all means, toss a Tomahawk into Quaddafi's bedroom- it should have been done long ago for his role in the destruction at Lockerbie. But who runs Libya is immaterial as long as that government doesn't harbor terrorists and continues to pump oil. There is no honor for conservatives to get all weepy about Arab "democracy". Our own "democracy" has proven to be less than adequate, a creator of $ 1.6 trillion deficits for as far as the eye can see, a destroyer of Constitutional government, and an eager conduit to America's moral squalor.

Partitioning of Libya will bring Democracy to a nation once ruled by despots and dictators. The Eastern coastline with its oil reserves will go to the freedom fighters, and the vast deserts will be given to those that love their land.

Why should the creation of new states in the middle east by modern diplomats work any better than the creation of the new states in the middle east by diplomats worked after WW I?
Remember Wilson's phrase just after WW I about "making the world safe for democracy?"
It didn't work then and it won't work now.
Like John Lukacs said: "Is democracy the rule of the people, or, more precisely: rule by the people? No: because it is, really and actually, rule in the name of the people." From "Democracy and Freedom," page 4-published 2005.

Make those above references to "middle east," "near east" instead. Thanks.

1) I know of no publicly available evidence that any of the potential benefits you cite are available or foreseeable, much less possible.
2) "Democracy" in and of itself is not necessarily a virtue nor a laudable goal. Tyranny can also come from democracy. See also: "Democracy in America" by Alexis de Tocqueville.

I thought that answer was going to be the next entry on your front page: "Bill Kristol Praises Obama Speech."

Many of the so called "freedom fighters" are Al Qaeda terrorists. So, what are we doing preserving the oil for them?
fsilber| 3.29.11 @ 3:02PM
I think our best response would have been neutrality from the beginning. The only reason I can think of for doing otherwise was as a favor to France and Italy -- who are terrified of inundation by Libyan refugees. (But certainly there are more direct ways of keeping undesirables out.)
That said, Obama did take sides, so anything but the removal of KhaDaffy would be disastrous. The last thing we need is to give him a chance to take vengeance on us.
