Good news, everybody: the Delaware Department of Transportation
has once and for all solved the horrible traffic on I-95 (one of
the most heavily traveled roads in the country) through the state.
Now that that particular scourge of Easterners has been defeated,
DelDOT has moved on to other urgent priorities, such as terrorizing
homeowners who have basketball hoops facing the street:
Delaware Department of Transportation crews escorted by state
police tore down basketball hoops this morning in two neighborhoods
in Claymont amid protests from residents who say the nets aren’t
harming anyone.
Last fall, DelDOT sent letters to at least eight residents in
the Radnor Green and Ashbourne Hills subdivisions saying their
street-side basketball hoops violated the state’s Clear Zone law,
which prohibits hoops, trees, shrubs and other objects from being
within seven feet of the pavement’s edge in subdivisions.
DelDOT told residents that if they didn’t take down the hoops
that the agency would and residents would be charged for the
removal and disposal costs, said Radnor Green resident John
McCafferty.
DelDOT crews and state police officers abruptly stopped the
operation this morning after a News Journal photographer arrived at
McCafferty’s house on Hilldale Court, where the man’s wife had
climbed up on the hoop to protest the removals.
McCafferty’s hoop was spared - for a time.
I’m just glad we have video of the conclusion of this story,
because it’s so important to appreciate that DelDOT’s time and
money are being used wisely and efficiently now that there’s no
more horrible, nightmarish traffic in the state.
Isn't that private property? How much money will now be spent on
defending themselves from litigation? Idiots.
BTW, did anyone at AmSpec see the LA Times article about the
collapse of Detroit? It never mentions politicians or policies that
might have had an impact, just 'racism' and companies moving out.
lol.
7 feet from the edge of pavement is most likely on public land.
The land that the street sits in has usually a minimum of 15 feet
on either side for boulevard.
You see, it's your property, but it's the Governments property
too, but the upkeep of it, is completely up to you. And God forbid
if you have a sidewalk on your property installed by your local
City. Then it's your sidewalk, and the Government's too, but you're
totally responsible for keeping it clear in the Winter, and they're
only responsible for plowing more snow on top of it ten minutes
after you finished cleaning it up. Now God forbid somebody trips on
your "shared" sidewalk that the Government hasn't repaved in
decades, then you're on the hook for half of the lawsuit settlement
too. Fair deal, huh?
Welcome to the police state. We have a tyranny of noisy
neighbors and do gooders who want to control other peoples
properties. In times past the neighbors would be out of their homes
in arms. There would be no local or state gestapo to enforce all
the BS. When you designate your security to others you get
tyranny.
What makes one's stomach turn when watching this is how quickly
the woman official threatens them with arrest or disorderly conduct
and orders them in their house. She has state troopers standing by
to intimidate and threaten them. It lets us know what tenuous
ground we really stand on with government every time we think we
have a right to private property or to speak out. They are the ones
with the power, and they are quick to remind us of that.
Did you notice he didn't use foul language even when he was
yelling? There is some civility left in the world! And I suspect it
all belongs to conservatives.
We teach our children to respect the property of others and to
not lie as these are behavior associated with BAD people. Yet when
we go to the voting booths we vote for liars & cheats and
somehow expect the agencies they manage to operate with respect
& dignity? It Is Time!
Tax revolt. Stop funding tyranny. Obviously these state workers
have little better to do with their time except to harass
homeowners and "feel" their power to do so. Whittle the government
payroll down to a size where the employees are too busy with
essentials to go on a power trip.
The Delaware Department of Transportation has long been a hotbed
of corruption and mismanagement of resources. It will be
interesting to see how this drama plays out.
The debacle of this president’s administration is both a cause
and a symptom of the decline of American values. Unless Congress
impeaches him, that decline will go on unchecked. An eminent jurist
surveys the damage and assesses the chances for the recovery of our
culture.
The American Christmas, like the songs that celebrate it,
makes room for everybody under the rainbow. Is that why so
many people seem to be hostile to it?

Then why do I have to cut the grass along the curb and shovel snow from the sidewalk in front of my house?

Want to see tyranny? Just look at the violence propagated by public unions in Wisconsin.
Why use the ballot box when thug tactics trump all?

How did that bitch actually come to think she had the authority to "order" that couple into their house?
