Yesterday my American Tradition Institute colleague Chris Horner pointed your attention to the news that Duke Energy CEO Jim Rogers has backed a $10 million loan for the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, in addition to taking on the task of raising $36.6 million for President Obama’s reelection party.
Today at the National Legal & Policy Institute blog I explain how Rogers is also trying to create a friendlier political environment in North Carolina, as well as redefining the president’s “crony capitalism” as “purpose-driven capitalism.”

A man of faith in a godless age is hitting Americans where it hurts.
Mr. and Mrs. American Spectator Reader, let P.J. O’Rourke talk sense to your kids.
In Britain, defending your property can get you life.
The debacle of this president’s administration is both a cause and a symptom of the decline of American values. Unless Congress impeaches him, that decline will go on unchecked. An eminent jurist surveys the damage and assesses the chances for the recovery of our culture.
It won’t take long for conservatives to scratch this presidential wannabe off their 2008 scorecard.
The American Christmas, like the songs that celebrate it, makes room for everybody under the rainbow. Is that why so many people seem to be hostile to it?
Was the President done in by the economy, or by the politics of the economy?

Will someone please explain to me how BP, GE, and now Duke Energy are so chummy with Barry, and none of the greenies on college campuses are questioning this? And how does the cost of energy necessarily skyrocketing help feed a hungry child? WILL SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME? And don't say "Bush did it."

And don't say " 'Bush did it.' "

.. YOU wrote it, defensively...
btw by your logic of disliking Obama so much, you might blame McCain; for if you had run a better candidate in '08, you wouldn't have Obama to kick around.
But you wont listen, you will continue to pour old Reagan wine into a new wineskin.

I know you are but what am I? Interesting how you won't defend Obama in your cute little rantette.

Those companies aren't named Haliburton? Just a guess.
Where the logic starts to make sense is when you realize that these energy companies would essentially become alternate tax collectors for the government. I suppose that by fleecing everyone this way, they have more of our money to spend on "insert PR approved cause" and the like. Clever, huh?
Now, why would the companies themselves go along with it? Like all "evil" corporations, they like profit, and the gov will give them a nice cut and insulate them from real competition. Cozy.

This is why Government needs to shrink. The larger it is, the more influence it has. The more influence it has, the more the economic whores (like Rogers and Immelt) come to the White House to get favors and the more the economic pimps in Congress try to get money in return for selling out their constituents. Anytime the government and any organization (business, non-profit) get together and agree on something, you can be guaranteed of the following:
1) your taxes will be spent on something frivolous,
2) the products/services you purchase will cost more (even if the organization is non-profit, some how some way a product or service you buy will end up costing more or something else will be dragged down into the gutter).
