Longtime readers may remember the Abdallah family; my
report on a protest at the Syrian embassy in Washington last
April included a picture of Mohammed Abdallah holding an image of
his jailed brother Omar, and related the conditions that Mohammed
and his father Ali endured while they were imprisoned. This Sunday,
Ali Abdallah was
sentenced to another stretch in prison for the crime of
"harming relations with another country" by criticizing the Iranian
government.
Reminder: With a recess appointment in December, the Obama
administration sent
an ambassador to Syria for the first time in five years.
If it wasn't such a serious situation, it would be laughable. He
coddles our enemies and chastises our friends. An American
ambassador to Syria? It is giving them respect where none is
due.
