Green jobs are ‘census’ jobs in that they are temporary
jobs that disappear as soon as the political will to continue the
wealth transfers from Peter to Paul, the Ponzi-style scheme,
running. So ‘opportunity cost’ calculations on jobs lost are
inherently understated.
We’ve got a new entrant today.
As has been well publicized,
Spain lost 2.2 jobs lost per ‘green jobs’ created.
Italy lost 4.8 jobs per ‘created’ job (story
here, study
here).
And, today, from the UK„ 3.7 jobs lost (story here, study
here).
Which is why all of the EU countries are stepping back from what
they created.
But, it’ll be different this time.

"Green jobs are 'census' jobs in that they are temporary jobs"
Using your "jobs" reasoning construction jobs are temporary jobs that will disappear as soon as they are done paying for them.
God you people are stupid.
Wayne | 2.28.11 @ 12:35PM
Really do you actually read? Since these green jobs are enabling inefficiencies and are subsidized, then they are actually costing us jobs. Your comparing it to construction jobs is an obvious attempt to deflect the reasoning which you are unable to challenge directly.
jharp| 2.28.11 @ 12:45PM
Enabling inefficiencies? Are you really that stupid?
Yeah right. And what jobs are they costing us?
The jobs of cleaning up the pollution of todays energy production?
God you people are stupid.

Your declarations of intellectual superiority are most amusing.
The French who actually work at trying to be intellectual superior have come up with a different solution to the energy problem.
The French went full Nuclear decades ago.

You notice that "Jackwagon harp" resorts to insults (oh my, is Jackwagon an insult - gee, I'm so stupid). Thus he is not confident enough in his arguments so he has to resort to using names and insults to perhaps convince others of his superiority.
By the way, construction jobs for "real construction" (like highways, dams, buildings) are temporary but they leave behind something that will be used and perhaps even enjoyed by those who paid for them (taxpayers, private entitied, etc.). However, the construction jobs used to build a solar panel factory or solar mirror complex (using subsidies forceably taken from the taxpayer) that then closes down without building a single panel or generating a single watt are useless in that they built something what was nothing more than a boondoggle and will never ever do anything of value. Indeed, the now empty building may actually become a hazard.
The same goes for the bullet train proposal - billions will be spent so that a few Joe Bidens and rich green supporters will be able to ride the rails and feel morally superior to all of us "stupid people".
irish19| 2.28.11 @ 12:34PM
That's as may be. However, the idea that it will cost between two and five jobs plus several hundred thousand dollars in subsidies (paid for by taxpayers) to create a single "green" job, means that the concept is not sustainable or economic or efficient. At some point it might be. However, we're a long way from that point now.
Wayne | 2.28.11 @ 12:38PM
Its even worse than that in my opinion. Once you go down the trail of inefficiencies you are no longer responsive to better ways to do things. That is because those better ways may cost jobs. I see this in the computer field when dealing with Indian contractors. They will not make things efficient, they just add more people instead.
jharp| 2.28.11 @ 12:50PM
Chris Horner,
You are an fool.
From the Wall Street Journal op ed page?
I suppose you idiots would have objected to the automobile as it put all of the buggy whip makers out of business.
God you people are stupid.
PhilTheCapitalistPig| 2.28.11 @ 1:44PM
The automobile took over the buggy and whip business because it was more efficient, you can't say that about govt forcing their hand of "green jobs." Big difference.

Phil,
Any rational being understands that subsidies artificially prop up markets. Once the subsidies are removed and with government regulatory restrictions eliminated, the market will collapse. Solar. Wind. Ethanol. How many times does the world have to prove this before our radical trolls get a clue?
The Harpie troll cannot see this, blind as he is with bitter anger. Hey Harp, do you kiss your mom with that mouth? Or is it give her a hug with those hands?

Are you referring to our Interstate Highway System? Or our locks and dams?
God you people are stupid,
PhilTheCapitalistPig| 2.28.11 @ 2:55PM
Do you understand what the "general welfare" clause in the constitution means?
Here's a hint, it doesn't mean redistributing wealth..
jharp| 2.28.11 @ 3:35PM
"Do you understand what the "general welfare" clause in the constitution means?"
Of course.
It means that ObamaCare passes Constitutional muster you dumbsh*t.
PhilTheCapitalistPig| 2.28.11 @ 3:41PM
Wow... You just don't get it. The word "general" in "general welfare" at the time of the writing of the document, was meant as "The population as a whole." Meaning, all parties involved will benefit equally.
And if ObambiCare passes constitutional muster, then ANYTHING DOES. Why not force us to buy a boat?
You are very shallow intellectually. I don't know why I waste my time.
jharp| 2.28.11 @ 3:48PM
"The word "general" in "general welfare" at the time of the writing of the document, was meant as "The population as a whole." Meaning, all parties involved will benefit equally."

I'll tell that to my Amish friends.
God help us with idiots like you out there.
God you people are stupid.
PhilTheCapitalistPig| 2.28.11 @ 3:58PM
Even Amish people use the roads. And either way, there's a big difference between something that benefits people in disproportianate amounts, and programs that punish some and benefit others.
And THAT is why subsidizing highways can be considered constitutional, considering interstates are exactly that, interstate roads. Therefore its something that can be provided for at the federal level, if need be.
Health insurance, on the contrary, punishes the producers, and benefits the takers. there's nothing "general" about me paying for my neighbors health insurance.
But either way, you're an idiot.
The govt plan isn't even free, moron. the cheapest it is in any state is in GA where its $344 bucks a month for a High-Deductible Health Plan in an HSA format with a $10000 OOP max. so plan on spending 13K+ on your "free" health insurance before you see dime one of benefit, you moron.
Not to mention if you're working, you'll pay for that plan twice.
You are too stupid to live, your mother should have used the "rights" you fight for and aborted your useless arse.

Maybe you missed it. The part of constitution that says that any powers not specifically mentioned in the constitution is left to the states or the people respectively.
I'm ashamed of people like you in my generation, always wanting to know what you can get for "free". You dumb fuccs don't realize that it comes down to one of the basics you apparently didn't learn as a child: "There's no such thing as free lunch."

Right?

PhilTheCapitalistPig| 2.28.11 @ 2:41PM
Stay on subject, fool.
I never said anything about roads. Most people consider that to be part of "general welfare" since the large majority (99%+) use the roads.
But either way, go ahead and change the subject again, since your limited knowledge only allows you to speak in vague generalities.

PhilTheCapitalistPig| 2.28.11 @ 2:44PM
If it were more efficient as you say, then we could provide energy via wind, solar, etc for cheaper than what it costs to provide energy via coal and oil. The market would automatically utilize them because people won't pay more for the SAME THING.
Hot damn, you're ignorance of the issues is glaring.

I do know that the Unions are the only monopoly in america, and we know who they contribute too. I do know that Wall Street contributed a lop-sided amount to the democrats in 2008. I know that lawyers do as well. In fact, people with riches vote, as a large majority, democrat.

And you don't have to cook the books with "saved jobs" to make it look good either. That's REAL growth!
jharp| 2.28.11 @ 3:56PM
Yes, more unemployment will without question spike demand and create jobs.
God you people are stupid.
PhilTheCapitalistPig| 2.28.11 @ 4:04PM
No, but markets will respond well to more confidence in the fiscal sanity in our government, simpleton. Or do you prefer 18% real unemployment?
PhilTheCapitalistPig| 2.28.11 @ 4:13PM
And by the way, I never established a causal relationship between more unemployment and job growth, it says a lot about your intellectual capacity that, that is what you draw from what I say.
jharp| 2.28.11 @ 4:21PM
"And by the way, I never established a causal relationship between more unemployment and job growth,"
PhilTheCapitalistPig| 2.28.11 @ 3:44PM
"Yes, thousands of government workers will lose jobs, MILLIONS will gain jobs in the private sector."
PhilTheCapitalistPig| 2.28.11 @ 4:39PM
Two statements.
For that to be "causal" it would read:
"Yes, thousands of government workers will lose jobs, therefore, Millions will gain jobs in the private sector."
The causality I established would be a return of confidence in our nations fiscal situation.
So, spending cuts, which will inevitably destroy govt jobs, will add to the private sector job numbers via a return of financial confidence in our markets and a return of domestic capital investment.
You're a waste of time, I'm out. Somebody else blaze this troll while I'm gone.

jharp| 2.28.11 @ 8:09PM
And you and Phil are stupid. If pointing out your ignorance is thread hijacking I am guilty.
That Phil was truly some special kind of idiot.
Just wondering. Does someone that stupid that embarrasses your cause so profoundly lose his posting privileges?
Or not get paid for that week?
Good help is tough to find I know, but wow. Just wow.
The wingnut welfare budget must be really hurting if thats the best you can do.

We're 14 trillion in debt with 20% real unemployment and we should be embarrassed?
We'll see who gets embarrassed in November, 2012, loser.
jharp| 2.28.11 @ 10:59PM
"We're 14 trillion in debt with 20% real unemployment and we should be embarrassed?"
Embarrassed? I have no idea whether you should feel embarrassed by what George Bush and conservatives have done to our country or not.
I'd say ashamed would be a better word.
What do you think? Time to borrow another $3 trillion and invade a country that is no threat to us? Or is it more tax cuts for the rich? Or borrow another trillion to give to big Pharma? Is that it?
Oh, I'm sorry. My bad. I've seen our new Congress is right on top of things. Time to try to deny poor people reproductive health care.
That'll do it. Defund planned parenthood. Our problems are solved.
God you people are stupid.
NoLib| 3.1.11 @ 2:56AM
Only an ahole like you would call abortion reproductive health care for the poor. Slimy racist dirtbag, you're no better than that hideous bitch nazi Margaret Sanger.
PhilTheCapitalistPig| 3.1.11 @ 4:48PM
This f'n guy... He has an off-subject response for everything. None of it relevant, but he has a response.
PhilTheCapitalistPig| 3.1.11 @ 4:50PM
Hey dummy, Your Boy Obama just added more to the national debt than all previous presidents combined in 2 years. You're an idiot. You don't deserve to live for defending the destroyers of this great nation. Please, die a slow, tortuous death.
