The Obama administration’s refusal to defend the constitutionality of DOMA eliminates the last vestige of substance to the president’s nominal opposition to same-sex marriage. My prediction is that the next Democratic presidential candidate will avoid these charades and openly support same-sex marriage.

That's great! When President Palin takes office in 2013, she can do the same thing to ObamaCare.

Who cares about the law anymore, right?

Frisbee| 2.24.11 @ 6:05PM

Ha! Yes, it appears that the rule of law is no more.

DRed| 2.23.11 @ 4:25PM

That would be refreshing.

Mike| 2.23.11 @ 4:27PM

Yesterday, Tom Bethell was lamenting the GOP's losses on cultural issues. Perhaps he under estimates the libertarian in most of us regardless of our other political proclivities.

Frisbee| 2.24.11 @ 6:59PM

The main point is that we don't need Congress or the Senate or the Supreme Court or "checks and balances" anymore: Comrade Obama is now the Supreme Libertarian in chief. (At least, Mike thinks he's a libertarian. I don't think so.)

Derek Leaberry| 2.23.11 @ 4:46PM

Mr. Antle is quite correct but I would guess that would not distress many kiddie-"cons". Perhaps they can switch to the party that better fits their moral values, such as they are.

Mike| 2.23.11 @ 5:00PM

Ah, Derek, the ineffable joy of moral superiority.

Michael L. Hauschild| 2.23.11 @ 5:16PM

You know I cannot wait till a party comes along that knows how to keep out of other peoples business, bedrooms, and bodies. You know, one that wouldn't tell you who to sleep with, what reproductive choices you have and wouldn't demand your donations go to a National candidate of their choice. Sure would be swell if that hypothetical party would establish a written "contract" stating what must be done about specific issues that affect everyone and concentrate on saving the Republic.
Oh wait........

MikeBee| 2.23.11 @ 5:37PM

Last I checked, no one in this country tells anyone else with whom to sleep, or what reproductive choices they have. It's just that one side doesn't go walking around, telling everyone, "I'm hetero! Accept me as I am!" In fact, it's heterosexuals who really don't care with whom anyone sleeps, and who really DON'T want to know. Seems like the Dems are the ones interested in getting into other people's bedrooms and bedroom rights.

Mi,e| 2.23.11 @ 6:50PM

You jest. Last time I looked the Family Research Council and fellow travelers are aligned with Republicans, not Democrats.

Handy| 2.24.11 @ 2:58PM

I lived in the DuPont Circle area where there were lots of queers. Wish they had gone back to their homes, because their loud hissy fits and knuckle-fests in the middle of the night and the middle of the street interrupted my sleep. Those bozos were invading my bedroom. Yuckaroo.

Occam's Tool| 2.23.11 @ 7:04PM

I'm prefectly happy to let druggies do drugs, if they won't try to kill themselves or others. That doesn't happen; as the guy at the end of that particular ambulance ride, I know.

Occam's Tool| 2.23.11 @ 7:06PM

Uh, and from there, polygamy is a small step. But I can barely handle one wife.

Dixie Pixie| 2.23.11 @ 5:08PM

Is it my imagination or does the Obama administration increasingly resimble a government by classic Mexican bandits.

Yes, except the line should read:

"Birth Certificates?, ... Birth Certificates?, ... We Don't Need No Stinking Birth Certificates! ... "

Mike| 2.23.11 @ 7:00PM

If Jesus returned and told you that Obama is a U.S. citizen, you wouldn't believe him.

Jamie| 2.23.11 @ 8:02PM

But Jesus would never say that because He never lies.

Mike| 2.23.11 @ 8:22PM

God bless you, Jamie. You are a piece of work.

Jamie| 2.23.11 @ 11:03PM

Thanks, I already know that!

Frisbee| 2.24.11 @ 6:07PM

Thanks for "straightening" Mike out Jamie.

Frisbee| 2.24.11 @ 6:08PM

"You have to pass the birth certificate before you can see the birth certificate."

Mike| 2.23.11 @ 6:53PM

Clearly, you have no understanding of the interplay between the federal law and various state laws that are at issue.

LDVnMN| 2.23.11 @ 7:06PM

I was not attempting to express my understanding of the interplay between federal and various state laws. Merely taking the same movie line and being facetious ... It was a joke.

Mike| 2.23.11 @ 8:24PM

My comment was addressed to Pixie. In the future, I shall be specific in my address.

LDVnMN| 2.23.11 @ 10:48PM

Mike,
Sorry, my bad, there may be no need, I'm new to commenting on TAS, so in the future I'll pay more attention to indentations.
On the subject of the return, It'd better come with some really, really spectacular $hit or I'd be asking for his ID also. Even then, I'd ask for more clarity between "U.S. Citizen" and what the founders have defined as"Natural Born Citizen"

Dixie Pixie| 2.23.11 @ 11:09PM

Greetings Mike
It is a pity that you misunderstood my little joke.
I know only too well what happens when one is caught between dueling bureaucracies.

On Monday.... a Federal contract in being preformed exactly to contract specifications.
On Tuesday.... a Federal bureaucrat decides parts of the contract is illegal and thus void.
On Wednesday.... another Federal bureaucrat decides the other bureaucrat is wrong and demands the contract must be fulfilled as written.
On Thursday.... a full scale bureaucratic flame war has broken out and one finds himself hip deep in lawyers.
On Friday.... the decision is made to complete the Federal contract as written and never do business with such idiots ever again.

When parts of the Federal and State Judiciary rules against The Federal bureaucracies and the Federal bureaucracies rule another way, then chaos breaks out among the venders as all the rules go into limbo.
The nasty point is when the Federal government throws out its own rules then a vendor can be hit from any direction rendering any contract terms meaningless.

Obama and his minions are creating chaos in the lower levels by his mindless rule changing.
I thank a Merciful God, I don't have any outstanding Federal contracts.
Obama is such a very great fool, any Federal contract is at risk.

Mike| 2.24.11 @ 9:19AM

Dixie,

My original comment stands. I was talking about the interplay of DOMA , a federal law, the differing state laws concerning marriage.

Dixie Pixie| 2.24.11 @ 10:51AM

Mike ... You are deliberating missing the point I was trying to make.
When the Law demands one course of action and the federal bureaucracy demands another course of action, then anyone in the middle will takes hit during the crossfire.
The only safe course is to do nothing, hence the slowdown in the economy.

Besides is it a really good idea to have the companies monitor who is sleeping with whom just to prove no one is being discriminated against?

Frisbee| 2.24.11 @ 6:12PM

You hit the nail on the head DixiePixie. Obama is saying he is above the law.

By the way, it doesn't matter to society when same sex people sleep together because it cannot result in offspring. Except that, in addition to being inherently sterile, homosexual acts are intrinsically evil.

Ken (Old Texican)| 2.23.11 @ 5:48PM

I think we should have same-sex marriages...

On the other hand, I hope when marriage becomes prevalent with humans and goats and sheep...the sheep pick the more prettiest humans.
Heh.

Dixie Pixie| 2.23.11 @ 11:44PM

South Park never explained how Al Gore created "ManBearPig".
I always assumed the process involved bubbling glassware and genetic manipulation.
Your post makes me question that assumption.
Maybe Eric Cartman can clear up this matter.

Mike| 2.24.11 @ 9:28AM

So Ken, is there something brewing deep in the heart of Texas of which the rest of the country is ignorant?

Patriot| 2.24.11 @ 2:28PM

You obviously are.

Dan| 2.23.11 @ 6:15PM

The only outstanding question now remaining, is the where and the when as to him finally emerging himself from "the closet."

He prances way too much to be what they used to call "a red-blooded American man."

Truth hurts.

Mike| 2.23.11 @ 9:55PM

Dan

Projection?

Patriot| 2.24.11 @ 2:29PM

I thought you liberals worshiped at the altar of homosexuality.

Al Adab| 2.23.11 @ 6:31PM

Is it not the Constitutional (that old thing) duty of the executive to see that "the laws be faithfully executed." That doesn't say anything about conditional execution based on his personal preferences. He violates his oath if he fails to fulfill this tenant does he not? What, we might ask, is the consequence of that?

Dixie Pixie| 2.23.11 @ 11:32PM

Greeting Al Adab
Your confusion may be a result of forgetting an uncomfortable fact.

Obama is a devotee of the "Chicago Way".
Which means just because he occupies a governmental position that does not mean he will do his job until someone makes it his "incentive" to do his job.
In the "Chicago Way", a governmental position is a license to demand "Favors" and "Compensation" to preform governmental functions.
Thus your confusion.

This also explains Obama bizarre performance while the Middle East blows apart.

Frisbee| 2.24.11 @ 7:28PM

By pretending to be the only person worthy of interpreting the constitution, Obama violates the constitutional requirements of his own office. Impeachment time.

The refudiator| 2.23.11 @ 7:35PM

let me know when gay marriage becomes mandatory. until then who gives a rip. as for the argument that gay marriage will lead to polygamy, it's in the old testament so i'm ok with that. not sure how this argument always ends up in bestiality. you want to marry a sheep i won't stand in your way.

Frisbee| 2.24.11 @ 7:08PM

Marriage exists to protect the natural right of children to the care of their parents. There is no such concern between same sex couples.

Same sex "marriage" is a grotesque power grab by government, because it pretends that government can create marriage. Marriage pre-exists government. Any Libertarian with a brain needs to wake up and see this fiction for what it is: the further erosion of natural human rights.

Anthony| 2.23.11 @ 10:33PM

While running for president Obama said he was against same sex marriage, now he's for it. Another lie from the liar-in-chief. Every single democrat lies, every last one.

Yosemeti Sam| 2.23.11 @ 10:35PM

To think, perchance for Leftoids to wildly believe, that this resident in the Peoples' White House has a snowballs' chance in hell of being re-elected is simply - COMICAL.

Better for BHO to contemplate rowing up Niagara Falls.

LOL.

bobmontgomery| 2.23.11 @ 11:09PM

Let's try to imagine, if we can, two more fundamental issues concerning a polity and the civil society that holds it together - One, Voting Rights, and Two, the Sacrament of marriage, as recognized by The People's House. That Obama has ordered his Attorney General NOT to uphold those two precepts, let alone the fact that it is both of their oaths of office and constitutional responsibilities they have openly refused to follow, should leave us..what? Making comments on a website? Making irate phone calls to our RINO-Progressive Congresspersons? Hoping for a spreedy writ of certiorari? Shaking our heads?
Or putting on a sandwich board and hitting the streets, risking jeers, tomatoes, taunts of "Hater!"

Frisbee| 2.24.11 @ 7:13PM

Thanks bobmontgomery, well said. One thing you can do is join Brian Brown at NOM right now. (The National Organization for Marriage.)

It is normal for Attorneys General to raise or reduce the enforcement level of this or that law because of the finite-ness of resources, but for a Pres to effectively revoke a law (signed by his hero B. Clinton) by pre-announcing zero-enforcement becasuse of some newly perceived un-constitutionality??? Unheard of. Impeachment time.

a grin without a cat| 2.23.11 @ 11:11PM

"...You want to marry a sheep, I won't stand in your way."

I won't either, but don't ask me to be your best ram.

Dan| 2.24.11 @ 3:08AM

Mike,

And is your accusation of "projection," likewise "projection."

Simply by accusing me, ---------- aren't you in the same boat then?

LOL.

Mike| 2.24.11 @ 9:24AM

Nice try, Dan. But you were the one who introduced an idea that I doubt had crossed anybody's mind.
That is, of course, assuming there is not a parallel group as crazy as the birthers.

Patriot| 2.24.11 @ 2:30PM

You're probably a truther, clown.

Oldefarte| 2.24.11 @ 2:33PM

If SOMEONES' daughters [or sons] were [just supposingly, make believe style] assaulted by a crazed homosexual bearing a DILDO, maybe just maybe SOMEONES might just change their political opinion, you think?????????????

Dan| 2.24.11 @ 6:14PM

No Mike,

what happened is that you availed yourself of a canard that's been floating about for the last 15 years, id est, if any guy, anywhere has a problem with the homosexual agenda, then that guy has to have "issues."

As a device to silent opposition to their agenda, that attack has been almost without parallel. But it is nonetheless a disgusting and disreputable attack.

Now why isn't my slight against Obama likewise disgusting and disreputable?

For the man has carefully cultivated various public personas, most of which are false.

Recall he was the racial healer, who would lead us all beyond racial considerations; he was also too the bipartisan leader, who would lift us all beyond the mundane concerns of a "Red" and "Blue" America, then again there was his ecological messianism, where he would heal the planet, but beyond that there was something else he has deliberately and purposely sought to cultivate, to wit, that he's a sports guy.

How many times have you seen the creature being interveiwed on ESPN, or most recently, before the Super Bowl. This was the guy who told us he was a Big, MEGA fan of the White Sox, but got their stadium wrong, a stadium which happens to be one of the more famous baseball venues in the country.

Likewise, this is the guy who called Penn State Nittany Lions, --------------- the Nittally Lions.

Every persona is fake.

Now he's out there trying to portray himself as fiscally responsible.

That too is fake.

When a man has that much falsehood in his existence, -------------- and with the rumours circulating about him back in Chicago, ---------------- then it's more than appropriate for him to be tagged.

Frisbee| 2.24.11 @ 7:33PM

Before the election, Obama did not go after DADT. Then after the election, he used a lame duck session to repeal DADT. Now, with a Republican house and no hope of Congress going along, he invalidates DOMA with a mere "fiat".

If he loses in 2012 (please God, or impeached or "birthered" first) then I imagine he'll make pronouncements from his trailer park until he ends up dying in a police shootout, while cursing the American people for failing him.
