Mr. O'Donnell, per this linked to article, reminds me of Gomer Pyle, USMC during the episode where he ate Welsh rarebit (causing him to sleepwalk and chew out Sgt Carter). Both Gomer and Larry (sorry, Lawrence) are as smart as a bucket of rocks. Unfortunately, Gomer was a sincerely nice person (at least his character was), where as Larry (so sorry, Lawrence) comes across as a total putz.
