When I wrote about the heinous sexual assault on Lara Logan yesterday I was not aware that her attackers were calling her "Jew! Jew!"

The fact that Logan is not Jewish only reinforces how deeply saturated anti-Semitism is in Egypt but demonstrates how little it takes for this ancient hatred to show its face even in the midst of jubilation. There are those who are content to downplay the manifestations of this behavior or dismiss its prevalence in Egyptian society. So be it. I cannot stop people from putting their heads in the sand.

As I have written here previously anti-Semitism was a part of Egyptian life under Mubarak and his regime most certainly tolerated it. But with Mubarak gone I think we will see anti-Semitism take a far more violent form as was the case with Logan. And with even Egyptian liberals like Ayman Nour calling for an end to the peace treaty with Israel he has effectively given the broadest possible legitimacy to these acts of barbarism. I'm afraid this is only the beginning.

Sadly, I fear you are correct.

Those on the left will claim they were shouting "you! you!" in their most earnest and wild eyed manner. The rest of us are just zionists -- regardless of our faith.

Maybe, but more likely the left will claim that it is Americas fault for creating such a vehement hatred of everything Jewish and American. Those who perpetrated the assault are not to blame, in the progressive eyes, it was the policies of the US and it's support for Israel.

Now, if they'd bellowed chickenhawk neo-con,
they'd have had the facts straight.

If the allegations are true, and those thugs were yelling "Jew" at Lara as she was being horribly assaulted, than the entire nation of Egypt should be ashamed by the actions of these despicable individuals.

However, justifying Mubarak's tyrannical rule over the Egyptian population as a means of preventing antisemitism in Egypt is absolutely outrageous. Sure, antisemitism has become rampant in the Middle East (you can thank the British for that), and of course it has nothing to do with Islam (Muslims and Jews were living in peace since 700 A.D. until around 1917, more than 1,300 years; during the Crusades, "Christians" massacred Jews and Muslims in their temples and mosques, Hitler was influenced by none other than Martin Luther, the founder of Protestantism). Nearly 450 Egyptians gave their lives, not so they could flaunt antisemitic views, but so that they and their fellow countrymen could have a better, more democratic future.

And as for the Muslim Brotherhood, recent straw polls indicate that they would receive less than 1% of any presidential vote.

If you believe your last sentence I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.
