House Speaker John Boehner has released a statement today along with Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan and other Republican leaders declaring that the GOP budget would, in fact, include entitlement cuts:

“The American people are ready to get serious about tackling our fiscal challenges, but President Obama’s budget fails to lead.  The President’s budget punts on entitlement reform and actually makes matters worse by spending too much, taxing too much, and borrowing too much — stifling job growth today and threatening our economic future.

“The President says that he wants to win the future, but we can’t win the future by repeating the mistakes of the past or putting off our responsibilities in the present.  Our budget will lead where the President has failed, and it will include real entitlement reforms so that we can have a conversation with the American people about the challenges we face and the need to chart a new path to prosperity.  Our reforms will focus both on saving these programs for current and future generations of Americans and on getting our debt under control and our economy growing.  By taking critical steps forward now, we can fulfill the mission of health and retirement security for all Americans without making changes for those in or near retirement.  We hope the President and Democratic leaders in Congress will demonstrate leadership and join us in working toward responsible solutions to confront the fiscal and economic challenges before us.”

At this point, given all the talk, Republicans will look silly if they don’t address entitlements in their budget.

President Obama should appoint another Commission then ignore its finding just like the last one.

No, actually what we need is a commission to find out why commissions are always ignored. Then we can ignore them also.

Well, we'll see. But everytime I get a little hopeful that the Repubs will take a stand...

I end up watching them scatter when the first shots are fired. It's almost comical when they get up and sound like a bunch of Reaganites in the campaign or on the News Shows...then get rolled up like a cheap cigar as soon as CBS and ABC get on their case when Obama sends out the talking points...
What a pathetic bunch. What a bunch of gutless cowards.

My bet is on the REPUBS collapsing like a house of Cards. Can you really imagine yourself taking the other bet???????????????????????

Hmmm....
After all of todays statements and seeing the Repubs blast Obama about it all day....
There just might be something to it....

We'll see. I'm getting cautiously optimistic...but only because I don't have to vote for them until they follow through...

We'll see how they do.

Entitlement reform? Cuts to Medicare, oh wait the Dems already plan to do that with the help of Dr. Berwick. Those plans should kill off large numbers of Seniors due to lack of medical care. Social Security? It won't do any good unless the caps are taken off of the SS tax, and then put the money in a lock box instead of putting in the general fund and blowing it on failed social engineering programs. Probably could tighten up on Medicaid, but Obamacare is planning to increase the number of people in that program. Probably cut money spent on helping poor Seniors. I would say that the Senior population will be considered as toss away people by both parties. Maybe less by Republicans than Dems who seem to have no respect for life.
