You may remember Dale Peterson, the GOP candidate for Alabama agriculture commissioner who gained YouTube fame last summer with his tough-talking campaign ad. Peterson lost a tough 2010 primary contest, but continues to be a favorite of grassroots conservatives. His exhibition-hall booth at the Conservative Political Action Conference has proven a popular destination and he's urging supporters to write in his name on the CPAC presidential straw poll.

Great news!
Heh, I can just see his trusty .30-.30 leaning into the window sill behind his desk. (There are no corners in the oval office to lean it in.)

I'd trust an Alabaman.

I love Dale Peterson! His flyover country iconography drives all the right people nuts.

In all seriousness, where does he stand on foreign policy?

Also, can you explain to us who are not from Alabama why he lost his primary? What other dynamics and issues were in play.

He lost his primary because Alabama has open primaries and the Alabama Education Association (teachers union) so badly wanted to control who was on the Republican ballot in the General that they had all of their members cross over in the Primary.

Most of the best R candidates lost that Primary.
