At the CPAC pro-life panel, Lifeandmarriage.org’s Erin DeLullo
just called for the anti-abortion coalition to go all Club for
Growth on Republicans who cross them and fund primary challenges.
The audience cheered but the room is maybe half full. Contrast that
with the standing room only crowd I just squeezed my way out of at
the defense cuts panel.
This year, social conservatives are complaining that their
issues have been deemphasized at CPAC. They have half a point, but
only half of one. To wit, there is a pro-life panel and one reason
it is so sparsely attended is that a bunch of Mormons are waiting
to meet with Mitt Romney next door.

Yes, but the social issues get people out to vote as much as, if not more than, the economic ones. These people should not be ignored.

Mitt Romney is a spent force, seeing that he is already hooped over Romneycare. But the fact that a bunch of Mormons were waiting to meet with him speaks volumes. Living in Alberta, Canada I can tell you that when a Mormon becomes leader of any organization that depends upon widespread public support the death of that organization will soon follow. And not because people are prejudiced against Mormons. Rather, it's because non-Mormons are soon shut out of any meaningful leadership roles. I have personal friends who have quit in frustration after trying, in some cases for years, to get their voices heard in both political parties and pro-life organizations.

Could someone give us an update on the "defense cuts" panel?
