In response to a scolding from the American Conservative Union's new Chairman Al Cardenas -- a reaction, in part, to the comment that Quin objected to this morning -- GOProud Chairman Chris Barron apologizes:

"For the past six months, we have watched as unfair and untrue attacks have been leveled against our organization, our allies, our friends and sometimes even their families. Everyone has their breaking point and clearly in my interview with Metro Weekly I had reached mine. I shouldn't have used the language that I did to describe Cleta Mitchell and for that I apologize," said Chris Barron.

I have as yet to see or hear any unfair or untrue attacks against GOProud. It isn't a conservative organization, and it does stand for the destruction of marriage as it has been known for all of human history. If the truth is bigotry, the bigots are the people telling the truth, it is the people to whom the facts are hateful that are the bigots.

In this dust up, the bigots are the people in GOProud. They need to get used to it.

Barron meant every word he said about Mitchell. He just spoke too soon.

From Grover Norquist " one of the most important conservative leaders in the country", and member of GoProud's advisory board, on goproud's cpac representation: "Right now, it's a sign the modern Republican Party is open to all comers, and the modern conservative movement as well."
Look, in their frenzy to welcome all comers, the Republican Party and Norquist's "modern conservative movement", have discarded any pretense of principled actions or defense of the American culture and people from forces committed to their demise.
Basically, the principles, laws, morals and American Creed, if you will, to which most of us adhere is not the driving force behind the Republican party and that "modern conservative movement" anymore. If it ever was.
There is no future for us in those entities. Forget them and move on.

Without us there's no future for those entities. Suits me.

I guess the question would be "how many homosexual conservatives are there?" If we turn them off (no pun intended) will they vote Democratic? If they switch sides (sorry, pun intended) how big of a voting block would that be? I could be wrong, but I would think that it would be small (most identity politics folks are already voting Democratic).

If they truly are conservatives, why are they organizing under the homosexual identity? If they are for limited government and so forth why do they need to be identified as homosexuals? There has to be a reason for them ensuring that their identity is known? Perhaps it is to minimize discussion on the "social issues" that many conservatives support. If truly concerned about the way the country is going then drop the GOProud label and just be conservatives.

GOProud isn't the only problem or biggest problem with the "modern conservative movement". The biggest problem with the "modern conservative movement" is there are too many willing to sell out GOD & their own conservative principles in order to win elections with candidates who when sent to Washington, if elected, conduct themselves & vote not much differently than the Democrats that were defeated by those candidates. Those running CPAC, RINOs like Grover Norquist, & The GOP "leadership" are just symptoms of the problem. Too many in the "modern conservative movement" are concerned only with fiscal issues & don't care that the country's morality problems more often than not go hand in hand with a lot of the country's fiscal problems. A "modern conservative movement" that puts more trust in the almighty dollar instead of in The Almighty GOD & panders to left leaning activist groups like GOProud to try to get more votes is a dying conservative movement, if the movement was ever conservative to begin with. This movement I no longer want any part of. The fact that GOProud puts more importance in advertising their sexual orientation than in just being conservatives as they claim to be speaks volumes about the true agenda of GOProud & the fact that they are truly non-conservative, regardless what tools like Grover Norquist, Ann Coulter, & David Keene, to name a few, have to say. Inclusion is one thing. Dividing the conservative movement through pandering to left leaning activist groups, which CPAC is truly doing is another. GOD is the best hope this nation has to reverse the course it is on & the "modern conservative movement" seems to be doing all it can to put as much distance between them & Him. Count me out.

"Trump steals CPAC show–just as GOP gay rights group had hoped"
"..."With all of the boycotters… undermining CPAC, we wanted to bring value-added, we wanted to bring some excitement and energy to CPAC," GOProud co-founder Chris Barron told The Ticket. "And who's a better person with a bigger megaphone and a bigger personality than Donald Trump?...I think that the gay community can learn something from Donald Trump and GOProud and all of the different avenues that we're going in," former Lt. Dan Choi, who'd been discharged under the military's "don't ask, don't tell policy," told The Ticket. "I think that's what Donald Trump represents for a lot of people-- he's not going to convince everybody to agree with him… and the gay movement cannot expect every gay or transgendered person to fall in line..."
Goproud cpac, goproud.

Priceless, really.

Greta| 2.11.11 @ 7:00AM

So lets look at this very simply. You have about 12 conservative gays who are totally opposed to millions of Christian conservatives. If you cater to the 12 or so and risk losing millions of the base, it shows that you have no knowledge of getting elected. Those who are pushing out the Christian conservatives are going to create a third party by their actions. Who benefits by this? Of course, the democratic party who these 12 probably support anyway. Same is true of the Ron Paul supporters who choose to go to boo at CPAC. They want to end conservative foreign policy and foster isolationism that is not the role of the USA in today's world. Having gone to hundreds of Tea Party meetings, I never found any move to seperate from the Christian conservative and do not believe that will happen. Maybe these fringes will be happy with a continuing move toward socialism which is the only real choice by their actions to divide the Republican party. I guess you would find a socialist heart beating somewhere underneath their foolish head..

VideoSavant| 2.11.11 @ 8:07AM

This just proves that gays are first and foremost about social agendas rather than personal freedom and dignity. I think this sort of thinking would find a home more comfortable in the Democrat Party.

So, don't let the door hit you in your identify on the way out.

The apology portion of Barron's remarks was merely an afterthought to his excuse-making.

Loublue2| 2.11.11 @ 10:05AM

Good grief people...Quin thought that Mr. Barron's remarks were intolerant and wrong, and they were! Barron has apologized, and that should be the end of this. Trying to read all of these "motives" into Mr. Barron's apology means the apology IS NOT accepted. What do you want the man to do? He did the RIGHT thing by apologizing and all you want to do is b**ch. Yeah...we Conservatives always take the high road, uh huh, riiiight....

Lenny| 2.13.11 @ 1:52PM

We don't believe him, so there's nothing to accept.

It would be nice if Barron had taken the high road in the first place.

Stan REdmond| 2.12.11 @ 11:25AM

I'm sick and tired of everyone apologizing for everything. I'm sorry if that upsets you...

Really though, take a page from Al Sharpton and never apologize when you say what you mean in politics. No matter how stupid it may be. It only strengthens your opponents' position. And we ALL know only republicans and conservatives apologize to victims in the democrat party. That's just the natural order of the universe.
