1. Contrary to the impression left in my earlier post, direct economic aid to Israel was ended in fiscal 2008. Only loan guarantees, subject to extension this year, and military aid remain. I’ve updated the post and regret the error.
2. It’s really not that uncommon to hear foreign aid described as welfare. Thomas Sowell does it here. Here’s Doug Bandow on this site, using it in the context of paying for the defense of wealthy allies in Europe. Maybe it is inevitable that Rand Paul will be judged by things his father has said because their family ties and philosophical commonalities are important reasons the younger Paul is in the U.S. Senate. But if the outcry is based on things only Rand Paul has said, there isn’t much more to it so far than the use of the word “welfare.”

I'm a huge Rand fan. But the problem is he rightly criticizes "welfare to Israel" (and I agree with him here, and I am half-Jewish), but he's not willing to criticize the real Weflare Queenies right here in the US. Those receiving Social Security disability for some alleged "back pain," Women receiving AFDC hand-outs while sitting at home all day watching Oprah Winfrey and munching on Cheetos, lazy-ass union workers who've been allegedly "layed off," and are receiving 2 years worth of unemployment insurance.
The prime objective of the US Government is to protect our national security and our borders. I'd much rather have my tax dollars going to support allies like Israel to protect against Islamo-Fascism, rather than towards lazy couch potato Americans who don't want to work.
Rand, go after the Moochers here in America First!

The crucial issue between the US and Israel ( except in the case of the Obama administration ) are close military,intelligence and regional ties. The US as an ally if you will ( or even if you wont ). Aid in terms of military and intelligence exchange plus very inportant moral support of Israel and therefore existentially the Jewish People. That is what I believe is most crucial. The Jewish right to survive. The rant of the Rands
are politically bad moves for the ultimate goal of Conservative victory over Obama and the left. There are many jews who vote by the wayand though not a great percentage in total population --they are more likely to vote than many others. And, again even though there are too many who are Left Socialist types there are increasingly more who see the truth. To defeat Obama we need all the votes we can get. Some one please counselor Rand and Ron that they are fools or maybe the don't care. In that case they will reap what they sow --to our nations demise.

" WASHINGTON (JTA) — U.S. Sen. Rand Paul wants to end all foreign assistance, including aid to Israel.
Paul, a Republican newly elected in Kentucky, was on CNN Wednesday outlining where he would cut the $500 billion in government spending he says is critical to sustaining the U.S. economy. His focus was on the departments of energy, education and housing.
Interviewer Wolf Blitzer then asked about foreign assistance, asking if he wanted to end “all foreign aid.” Paul said yes, and Blitzer asked him about aid to Israel.
“Well, I think what you have to do is you have to look,” Paul said. “When you send foreign aid, you actually [send] quite a bit to Israel’s enemies. Islamic nations around Israel get quite a bit of foreign aid, too.
“You have to ask yourself, are we funding an arms race on both sides? I have a lot of sympathy and respect for Israel as a democratic nation, as a, you know, a fountain of peace and a fountain of democracy within the Middle East.”
Blitzer pressed, “End all foreign aid including the foreign aid to Israel as well. Is that right?” he asked.
Paul answered, “Yes.”

don't buy this anti-Paul propaganda and don't try to defend him by attacking Israel. Neocons want to find any excuse for attacking the Tea Party, libertarian senators and other public figures because they are terrified of what is going on. Do not give them the satisfaction. Defend Paul as a libertarian politician and thinker who is principally opposed to foreign aid, and not by attacking Israel.
One can perfectly well support Israel against the jihadist killers and still oppose foreign aid to anyone, including Israel.
