For a number of  years now, North and South Dakota have been political oddities: basically Republican states with almost entirely Democratic congressional delegations. It’s not quite as if Massachusetts suddenly sent only Republicans to Congress — Massachusetts has a much bigger delegation and is more of a one-party state — but it’s close. Kent Conrad’s retirement is the latest sign the Dakotas’ congressional representation will look more like the state’s partisan alignment for the foreseeable future.

The seat is Attorney General Wayne Stenehjam's if he wants it. He's Republican, popular and his brother Bob is state Senate Majority Leader.
