I continue to believe that Sarah Palin is not
yet qualified to be
president, but my admiration for her continues to grow. Her
interview with Sean Hannity, just aired, was almost pitch-perfect.
It was dignified. It was well-modulated. It was strong. And it was
thoughtful. She kept her composure even as Hannity put on the
screen some of the vilest, most vicious attacks against her -- the
sorts of things that were so bad that if they were said about me
they might shake me to my core. She explained her thought process
after hearing about the shooting in Tucson, and explained the
timing of her videotaped message, and explained her use of the term
"blood libel." She insisted, rightly, that strong and honest -- but
respectful -- political debate should not be stifled, and noted
that it only seems like the right is asked to stifle its views. She
was correct on all counts.
The truth is, there is almost nothing this lady has ever done or
said that merits the sorts of venomous vitriol to which she has
been subjected. Her rhetoric is sharp but not hateful. Her views --
and even more, her actual record -- are mainstream conservative,
not extremist. And her story of a plucky, self-made rise from
unlikely (for a politician) origins, on the basis of hard work and
gumption, is remarkably admirable. And, frankly, whom has she hurt
along the way? The feelings of those who are appalled that she
wouldn't abort her Downs Syndrome baby? The ideology of those who
thought she should force her daughter to get an abortion? The
corrupt old-boy network who plagued (and effectively robbed)
Alaska, whom she defeated in fair-and-square elections? The
self-important worldview of those who believe that women who aren't
liberal are illegitimate political actors? Go ahead: Show where
Sarah Palin has been mean-spirited, abusive, or hateful? Can't do
it. She hasn't been.
Sarah Palin has been libeled for the past nine days, and indeed
libeled ever since John McCain announced he was choosing her as his
running mate. Amidst all the slings and arrows, she has retained
remarkable composure. She's not my choice for president, but I
would be happy for her to continue, at any time she wants, to put
leftist folly in her verbal gunsights.
She's *my* choice -- but other than that, this article was spot
on!

Palin's big claim to fame is the "bridge to nowhere". She

support the Alaskan State budget. Palin talks a good game but is,
in reality, a RINO who is using the Tea Party as a way to market
her book and get paid on reality television.
Palin and Obama are in the same boat in that they are far too
inexperienced for the job.
The only thing that her candidacy in 2012 would do is guarantee
a second term for Obama.

Americans in 2012 will be looking for courage and a leader who
can bear the weight of tragedy and come through smiling, stronger

The current President's policies will not restore prosperity.

Palin has weighed in on foreign policy, economics, healthcare,
energy, freedom, among other things. I have yet to disagree with
her on anything. Even the pundits who claim they disagree turn
around and offer the same opinions as Palin.
Exactly what is it about Palin that you deem not ready or not
qualified? Perhaps that opinion was understandable when she was new
on the scene in 2008 and somewhat unknown BUT it is hard to refute
the fact that she has proven herself time and time again over the
past two years. She has educated us on her record, views, ideas
etc... enough to know that she is very qualified and very
ready.
She stood with a steel spine during these attacks when no other
potential candidate could utter a single consonant while hiding
under the desk.
I will proudly vote for that kind of leadership anyday. What
will it take for you Mr. Hillyer? Maybe you should really reflect
on why it is you really oppose a President Palin. The answer might

Instead, as she later wrote in her first book, "Going Rogue",

I was frustrated watching her do her slow burn during those
interviews.
As I have gotten to watch her more over time, I have learned her
"eye-flash" means..."Look-out! I'm ready to hoist you on your own

"gotcha" question or a truly dumb question is asked of you: "Ask

Palin and Obama are in the same boat in that they are far too inexperienced for the job.
The only thing that her candidacy in 2012 would do is guarantee a second term for Obama.

Americans in 2012 will be looking for courage and a leader who can bear the weight of tragedy and come through smiling, stronger and ready for the next challenge.
The current President's policies will not restore prosperity. Sarah Palin has exhibited courage and grace under fire. For all the stories we have heard about her, all the attacks on her and her family, we have never seen her loose her cool or talk off point. She displays incredible self-control and maturity.
As you say yourself, her views and her record are mainstream conservative. She is one of the few politicians who walk the walk and talk the talk. She is straight forward and actually answers questions, a rarity in politics. She doesn't lie, cheat or tell people what they want to hear. She is honest.
She has expressed opinions and ideas on important issues that are smart, accurate and spot on for conservatives. She doesn't back down and certainly isn't afraid to challenge twisted liberal thinking and attacks.
Palin has weighed in on foreign policy, economics, healthcare, energy, freedom, among other things. I have yet to disagree with her on anything. Even the pundits who claim they disagree turn around and offer the same opinions as Palin.
Exactly what is it about Palin that you deem not ready or not qualified? Perhaps that opinion was understandable when she was new on the scene in 2008 and somewhat unknown BUT it is hard to refute the fact that she has proven herself time and time again over the past two years. She has educated us on her record, views, ideas etc... enough to know that she is very qualified and very ready.
She stood with a steel spine during these attacks when no other potential candidate could utter a single consonant while hiding under the desk.
I will proudly vote for that kind of leadership anyday. What will it take for you Mr. Hillyer? Maybe you should really reflect on why it is you really oppose a President Palin. The answer might enlighten you.

Now, if you don't think she's experienced enough to be President, then that's a different question. However, Sarah Palin is more experienced than Obama, and yet the voting public deemed him experienced enough to be President. Since Sarah Palin is more experienced than Obama, logic would dictate that clearly she is experienced enough to be President, too, wouldn't you say, Mr. Hillyer?

The people who keep trashing Sarah Palin are largely the same people who thought that Barack Obama would be the greatest president since Lincoln. How is that working out? Despite having overwhelming Democratic majorities in both houses of Congress for the past two years, he is currently presiding over an unemployment rate in excess of 9% and a budget deficit of 10% of GDP . These people were also gullible enough to take John Edwards seriously, a man whose phoniness could not have been more obvious if he had had the word "phony" tattooed on his forehead.
If Obama were even a moderately competent president, there would be little interest in Sarah Palin. Attacking her does not make Obama better, but it does distract from the disaster that we elected in 2008.

I always get a chuckle out of you...may I say "straining at gnats" RE Sarah.
I won't ask you who you would like to see elected President in 2012. First of all, it would cause you endless grief. Second, it would put you in someone's "camp".
As a columnist, that puts you in an awkward position vs a vis your readers.
Having said all of that, I have made my affection and admiration for the woman pretty clear over time.
Yes, she stumbled in two "gotcha" interviews; the only times I ever saw her loose her temper.
She admitted as much later when asked about the interviews.
(One question of course a bout "the Bush doctrine". The other of course about if she read anything.)
If I had been in those interviews and asked those questions, I might have gone off like a roman candle.
My "should have saids" would have gone something like these:
"Why would you ask such a dumb-ass question ?"
or
"What particular 'Bush doctrine' are you interested in...dumb-ass! The man has been in office eight long years."
Instead, as she later wrote in her first book, "Going Rogue", she had been muzzled to the pap the McCain campaign was spouting.
She was "admonished" to be a good girl and not to rock the boat.
I was frustrated watching her do her slow burn during those interviews.
As I have gotten to watch her more over time, I have learned her "eye-flash" means..."Look-out! I'm ready to hoist you on your own petard, Stupid!"
OK, Sarah. I'm speaking to you, now. The very best trick when a "gotcha" question or a truly dumb question is asked of you: "Ask the questioner to re-state the question!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let the audience have a chance to sorta' catch up to what is going on, and how shallow...or mean the question truly is as the case may be.

I would not blame her if she did not, but she has stated MANY times that she is NOT going to sit down and shut up, regardless. With four children at home she might not want to leave them orphans.
I would point out to you and any other reader that should she run, she will get some Secret Service protection...and they are the best in the world.
In a sense, she is right these days in the
"Garden of Gethsemane".....praying "Not my will Father, but Thy will...be done".
Let's talk about the "negative poll numbers" a minute. I think we can safely say that Jesus Christ seemed to have "negative poll numbers" in relation to Barabas. Barabas was voted to go free, and his zealot faction led to the destruction of the Temple and the Diaspora of the Jews for two thousand years.

Guess it depends on what you consider "mean-spirited, abusive, or hateful." Personally, I consider her characterizing an author as a pedophile merely because he moved in next door to be abusive and hateful. Similarly for when she characterized a late-night host for a lame joke. Making jabs at Michelle Obama for her campaign for healthy kids seems a bit mean-spirited to me. And making Kate Gosselin cry and then make fun of her? Also mean-spirited. And in my book, it is mean-spirited to go around calling people "limp" and "impotent" just because they don't agree with you.
But I guess I must just be over-sensitive to consider the above incidents "mean-spirited, abusive, or hateful."
