The good news is that it appears Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is going to pull through, but six people were killed (including a federal judge and a young girl) and 11 others were injured. No doubt, some will try to exploit this event for political gain. In fact, even before the shooter was identified, Paul Krugman was already blaming the incident on Sarah Palin, Tea Party activists, and opposition to national health care. But with details starting to trickle in on the alleged shooter, Jared Loughner, it’s looking like it will be hard to identify him with any given ideology (not that violent acts by nut jobs should ever be blamed on others who share a few political views that they express peacefully). Assuming this is the YouTube page of Loughner, his views look completely incoherent. Among his favorite books: Mein Kampf, the Communist Maniefesto, Animal Farm, and Ayn Rand’s We the Living. Unless he’s the first Nazi Randian communist, it’s hard to identify him with any political movement. The videos themselves are filled with random pseudo-intellectual gibberish about currency and English grammar. I think Finnegans Wake was more comprehensible.
With the story quickly evolving, there’s a limit to what we can say about the shooting. But one thing we can say is that beyond the lives that were directly affected, another upsetting element is that this incident could have the affect of creating more distance between members of Congress and their constituents. There was a time when citizens were able to walk up to the doors of the White House, wait on line, and give the president a piece of their mind. That obviously became impractical and too risky as time went on. But members of Congress, of all public figures, are the most accessible of public officials. To the extent that new security concerns will begin to make members of the “People’s House” more distant from the people, this is a tragedy in more ways than one.

I would agree that we shouldn't blame things like this on people who have been expressing peaceful political views. However, that's not the situation here. Sarah Palin for one, and this fellow Kelly who opposed her in the race last year, both suggested she should be shot. Republicans never gave a damn about any of that. Giffords' office was vandalized during the campaign -- remember that? So this is not an isolated event.
This is, without a doubt, a political killing, and the Republicans and their violent rhetoric is responsible for it. If there is any justice, the Republicans will suffer mightily for this. People who engage in violent rhetoric -- including and especially Sarah Palin -- are traitors.

I think the President needs to apologize for some of the rhetoric he uses. It would go a long ways towards calming the political environment. Why is it not okay to use the acts of jihadists, suicide bombers, or other terrorists as representatives of Islam, but it's okay for you to use this nutjob as an example of a movement that represents millions of Americans, and is based on the founding principles of our country?
Well there are, you should understand, seldom more than a few short hours between the time that a tragic act occurs and when its perpetrator's political beliefs, if any, come to light. The Venomous Left needs to take advantage of every single minute to paint the perp as a right wing extremist, before the actual facts are known. After all, those hours are the most important in shaping the public's perceptions and recollections of the event.

As someone who worked the Reagan assination case, I was assigned to watch the autoposy of Press Secretary Brady. He had been shot in the head, and had been declared dead. Even the FBI and the media who were at the heart of the attempt, couldn't get some of the most simple of facts straight. I would suggest that everyone go to church, (if you are religious), watch football, (if your a football fan) or visit your friends (if you have any). I think my suggestions are helpful, and carful not to offend anyone.

And tea party types use the threat of violence at political rallies, carrying guns to rallies and signs saying "I left my ammo at home - this time", Sara Pailin: "lock and load" and maps showing her political opponents on maps with a target bullseye, Sharon Angle: "use your 2nd amendment remedies", etc.
So the connection between this nut job and the tea party in general is UNDENIABLE.

This definitely was a political assassination. Liberalism is a mental disorder,and another definition for Liberal is: "Democrat". My guess would be this young mental case, that cold bloodily murdered these people in Tucson,Arizona.Will not be amongst the living long enough to confess as to who paid him for this dastardly deed. Those of you who are associating or making false accusation against any Republican Presidential candidate,or Tea Party patriot was behind this terrible crime, are just liberal pawns in the deadly game of politics this nation has been playing since Lincolns assassination.
