To quote CS Lewis:
I can imagine no man who will look with more horror on the End than a conscientious revolutionary who has, in a sense sincerely, been justifying cruelties and injustices inflicted on millions of his contemporaries by the benefits which he hopes to confer on future generations: generations who, as one terrible moment now reveals to him, were never going to exist. Then he will see the massacres, the faked trials, the deportations, to be all ineffaceably real, an essential part, his part, in the drama that has just ended: while the future Utopia had never been anything but a fantasy.

As someone who is single and who does not live a life style that would result in unwanted pregnancies, I have trouble understanding the desire to view the potential child as nothing as a bunch of meaningless cells. I know, as a male, I cannot understand what goes through a woman's mind when she becomes pregnant. But given the stereotypical view of women as being nurturing it is hard to imagine a woman being able to abort and not be negatively affected by it.
I don't know when "life" actually begins, but given the limits of medicine and science, there is no way to really tell when "life" begins (this doesn't even include discussions on the soul of the unborn). If it is taking in nutrients from its mother, if it is still performing cellular replication, is it not alive? There are scientists who claim a one-cell amoeba is alive - would these same scientists say that an unborn fetus is not? How can an unborn fetus at any time not be "alive".

David W,
I respectfully disagree.
Science is clear. Human life begins at conception.

The left say conservatives hate science while they always refuse to face the fact that this "clump of cells" is a growing, living human being with its own unique DNA.

I tried to hash out the whole conversation here...the entire crux of the issue is whether it is alive. That's the debate libs refuse to have, instead they hide behind juvenile screaming about a woman's right to choose or the tired rape and incest nonsense.

The abortion procedure is a holy one. Abortion is the only medical procedure that has independent rights.
To wit, in many states, if a teen girl gets pregnant, not only can the girl get an abortion by going to a school nurse (the same nurse, BTW, that would not be permitted to give her an aspirin), but the parents do not have the right TO BE NOTIFIED.
Think about it. A minor, whose parents are its legal guardians. They are responsible for the child. And yet, not only is their consent not required for a full fledged medical operation, but they don't get to be told!
Clearly, all bow to the holiness of abortion.

" Pope Benedict XVI has issued what Catholic pro-life advocates are calling an unprecedented request for prayers worldwide from all pro-life people against abortion.
The head of the Catholic Church will begin Advent by celebrating a solemn “Vigil for all nascent human life” at St. Peter’s Basilica on Saturday, November 27.
The call is not limited to Catholics as the Pope is asking that “all Diocesan Bishops (and their equivalent) of every particular church preside in analogous celebrations involving the faithful in their respective parishes, religious communities, associations and movements.”

What I cannot understand is why a murderer can be found guilty of a double homicide when he kills a woman who is pregnant. Scott Peterson (sp?), who murdered his pregnant wife Lacey, is among the most notorious, but there have been others sentenced for the taking of two lives, not just one. Why is this punishable--even with execution--while the abortionist may kill not only with impugnity, but to the acclaim of a morally blind segment of the population? And why are there no laws regarding the regulation and inspection of abortion clinics? They are, after all, surgical facilities.
