I defend the Truman-era 80th Congress, the first Republican majority of the postwar era, and argue we could use another today.

These twits can't even handle the simple assignment of being the party of "no." I read where leaving the Republicans in charge is like leaving your kids to be watched by a pedophile. That was quite astute, I think. Even with the tax bill, how much is wasted on earmarks? There will continue to be a need for an informed citizenry to keep these chumps from continuing to take the government in a direction most of us (Country class) don't want.

I am a staunch Conservative Reoublican and I feel I have to agree with you.

You cite examples of all the things the do-nothing congress, did. You've argued against your own title. We need another do-nothing congress (which is actually a do-something congress) What's the point here? Not a bad read though.

The 80th has historically been called the "Do-Nothing Congress" because that was the slogan Harry Truman used when campaigning against it in 1948. It's obviously a misnomer.

The Republicans have the power of the purse now. They can reduce spending to by not passing anything if they were strong willed enough.I personally would like to see them roll back 95% of all legislation.

It gave us the Taft-Hartley Act.

It was called the do-nothing Congress by Truman, only because after his nomination, he called it back into session and demanded it pass the Democratic platform, which it refused to do. Could Obama try the same thing?

We don't need a do-nothing Congress, we need an undo- it Congress. We need a Congress to defund whole agencies and privatize others e.g. Fannie Mae. We need a Congress to repeal ObamanationCare or at least try to repeal it. We need a Congress to defund as much of ObamanationCare as possible. We need a Congress to investigate the actions of all these unaccountable Czars. We need a Congress to stop anymore of Obummer's stupid ideas. There is much for the new Congress to do and I hope they can repair the damage the 111th Congress did.

Not sure we need congress at all. Do nothing or otherwise who needs it? What have you done for me lately?

Reinforcements have been sent, but they'll likely be assigned to dig more trenches.

The men of that congress are no longer with us. We now have a bunch criminals that have taken their place.Incentive Insolent Bastards, serving only their own selfish need for money and power. There is not the slightest difference between the Republican and Democrat party's. They both have an odor of spoiled food rotting in the sun. If you continue to salivate over their flavor, your future will be that of one who has eaten a full plate of salmonella.
