6.5 Earthquake Hits Iran

Today, an earthquake of a 6.5 magnitude on the Richter scale hit southeastern Iran. No casualties have reported as of this writing.

It has been seven years since a substantial earthquake hit Iran. What I remember most about that December 2003 earthquake was Iran refusing Israel’s offer of humanitarian aid. Despite rejecting Israel’s olive branch, this did not prevent then Israeli President Moshe Katzav from calling upon Israelis to assist victims of the earthquake.

Of course, that earthquake took place before Mahmoud Ahmadinejad became President in the spring of 2005. If a supposedly moderate regime in Iran wasn’t going accept Israeli aid then it certainly wouldn’t accept it now.
