Nick Gillespie squares off against the taxophillic Jonathan Chait. It’s an amusing exchange, but the one bit I’d like to emphasize here is this: lots of people like to talk about how it’s oh-so-responsible to raise taxes and impossible to cut spending to the point where tax increases are unnecessary, but fewer people note that the federal government hasn’t been able to get collect more than 19-20 percent of GDP on any consistent basis.
