Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he would not file cloture on the $1.2 trillion omnibus spending bill, saying he doesn not have the votes. Instead, he said he would work with Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on a continuing resolution to keep the government funded for the short term.

Reid said he initially had agreements from 9 Republicans to vote for the bill, but that those votes have since evaporated. Brandishing a pocket copy of the U.S. Constitution, Reid defended earmarks, saying it’s one way to preserve the checks and balances put in place by the founders and that ending the practice would transfer too much power to the executive.

He also said he would file cloture on the DREAM Act and the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” repeal, setting up votes for Saturday.

there is no reason to allow any more votes. filibuster everything until the peoples congress is seated.

Reid is defeated on the Omnibus... and if he thinks that he can convince the American people that the Constitution actually DEFENDS 'earmarks', then he's more fool than the people he thinks he's fooling. We WON'T put up with it. I agree w/ggoblue... NOTHING GETS VOTED IN TILL AFTER THE NEW CONGRESS IS SEATED!

Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX) was instrumental in the downfall of the 2006 Secure Border fence Act, as even before the ink was dry on the law, she and a bunch of other stealth conspirators severed funding and removed the construction of the second internal fence that was to be electrified. Today under Obama's watch, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and of course syrupy Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) we have a border barrier half completed and nowhere near enough National Guard and US Border Patrol to stop the illegal alien invasion. Local Sheriff said on the TV last night, not only do we have thousands of destitute people coming here looking for a job, but they are accompanied by criminals and other suspicious aliens from Syria and other dangerous insurgents from the Middle East. This week we had another Border Patrol agent murdered in a gun battle, and with the ongoing drug wars in Mexico, this is only seen to get worse.

Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano has incessantly stated the border is secure, but this is far from the truth? Any of us only have to question the Border state law officers and the land owners, to discover the real truth--Including regions where federal authorities, have stationed signs warning citizens not to trasspass on these areas of American land overrun with drug smugglers and other criminals. The Dream Act for an estimated 2.1 million students will be a serious blow to our own youngsters looking for a job, to compliment their chance of paying for college. Further--down the line under the Dream Act, immediate family can be sponsored in the United States through the family unification law. The major problem with this sponsorship is the original surety, neglects his financial responsibility and then the US taxpayer becomes the recipient. And the Hits, just keep on coming!!

Hey Harry, get used to this feeling, it's the feeling of losing, and this is going to become a very common feeling in your life in the next several years. Your a Loser, your agenda's a Loser, your Party's a Loser, and if we could only go back in time and fix a few things before November 3rd, you would've been a Loser that day too (Damn Flux Capacitor!!)!! But despite your victory that day, you're still a Loser, and 99% of Americans agree with me (You see, I took my own poll)!!

And I'm sure you cheated to win on Election Day too!! That's the only way, Losers like you can keep their jobs!!

I was approved for hire with an national security/intelligence agency in August, after waiting more than six months for my clearance to go through. They told me in Nov I would not be hired until Congress passes an actual budget. Looks like it's going to be another 3 months. Anybody know where an Iraq Veteran can go for help in paying rent for the next 3 months? I have 6 years of counter terrorism experience, I learned Arabic in the Army, I have applied for nearly two years before getting an offer, and now it looks like 15 months will pass from that day until I actually start work.

Glad you all are so happy about another Continuing Resolution. Hope the DHS, FBI, DIA, and etc manage all these Christmas terrorist threats even though they won't have a confirmed operating budget until FIVE MONTHS after the start of the Fiscal Year.

Susanne: You can re-enlist in the Army, we could still use your language skills in Afghanistan or Iraq, but you certainly won't make the big six-digit income there, that you would working in Washington (but you know that already).

So at what point do you think the Government has to stop growing? Right after they put you on the payroll? Right after you add one more future retirement package onto the backs of the American Taxpayers? You know what Susanne, you sound a little too selfish to me, to have been a former Soldier. Me, me, me, where's mine? Do you remember the seven Army Values Susanne? I'll remind you of one;

Selfless Service: Put the welfare of the "Nation", the Army, and your subordinates before your own.

We're approaching 14 Trillion dollars in debt, so once again I'll ask you, at what point do you think the Government has to stop growing? I'll answer that for you, right now, yesterday, last year, 1968, the friggin' New Deal!! Enough is enough already, cut Government spending, stop earmarks, stop hiring, cut entitlements, end the Ponzi scheme called Social Security, and start living within our means!! And if that means I get my job cut in the end too, well then, so be it!! I'll move on, like I always have. I'm sorry if I came across as a little too tough on a fellow Iraq Veteran, I hate to question somebody's integrity on one measly post, but you sound like a whiner tonight, not a Soldier.

Time can change most of things.

hsr0601| 12.16.10 @ 9:13PM

1. Anti-DISCLOSE Act VS. Pro-Earmark Ban

Admittedly, both are disturbing, but it is apparent that the largest form of wasteful spending can arise from the Shadowy Campaign Money offered by the greedy interest group.
And Earmarks accounted for about $16 billion, less than 1 percent, of federal spending in 2010, small potatoes in contrast to Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans

2. The reps along with Big Business bought this past midterm election.
The structure that the last champion is authorized to pick the next match winner .

The ruling that allowed Corporate money to back Political Candidates destroyed the very fabric of the Elections and Americans are paying dearly for it.
The incessant flood of negative campaign ads drove most Americans towards something they knew nothing about, the Republican/Corporate take-over of the US. Millions upon millions were spent to defeat certain

What language is that in which you are attempting to speak? (Wildly unsuccessfully, I might add.)

Troll Hunter| 12.16.10 @ 9:35PM

The above was meant as a reply (liberal response: website malfunction! conservative response: must've clicked the wrong link) to the uber-weird post of hsr061.

Oldefarte| 12.16.10 @ 10:34PM

This weasel domestic terrorist is a disgrace to his state and to this nation. How on earth could the voters of his state re-elect him? I can understand people like Pilosi, Boxer, Brown, Schumer, etc being elected since their states/districts are havens for extreme liberalism, but not Nevada. What a disgusting little creep, and to think those people could have elected Angle!!!!!!!

Susanne| 12.16.10 @ 10:38PM

No, I don't mind your toughness. I am being melodramatic. Need a reality check, like that commercial, "Does a former Drill Sergeant make a terrible therapist?"

I can't re-enlist. Breathing issues which might be related to service in Iraq, I don't know, but I can't hack it anymore.

You're right, I'll drive on. I'm just REALLY frustrated. And close to broke. I'll move in with family. I have that option, so I'll be okay. It's just not where I wanted to be in life. I wanted to be helping catch terrorists like I did in the Army, no other job I'd rather take. I'll get there. There have been a helluva lot of other things thrown in my path before this - 15 month tours, stop loss, etc. What's another obstacle?

"Not dead, can't quit."

greghawk| 12.17.10 @ 2:16AM

Amen Sister! The cynicism of this government is striking - no hire for determined 'terrorist catchers', but big hire for those performing 'enhanced patdown' and tax audits.

This, too, shall pass.

Boomerbabe| 12.17.10 @ 4:12AM

You go, girl! You are awesome - first, your panic induced post, then your reality check post. Your love of country and service should have meant that you had a job immediately upon discharge, but like everything else, government promises are useless. To have to wait this long when you are well qualified! Even though I live across the nation in the other Washington (state), we have a motorhome you are welcome to live in while you wait, rent free. We can hook it up to electricity, etc. and you will be safe. If you are interested, please reply and we'll figure out a way to "reveal" our identities safely.

Lullabys,Legends and Lies| 12.17.10 @ 6:58AM

Susanne: I hope you have a Merry Christmas, and a very happy and blessed New Year. Airborne!!

Peter | 12.16.10 @ 11:36PM

Why are our immigration laws not being enforced, and why should a single taxpayer's penny go toward supporting people who have breached our borders and are living here as illegal aliens? I really just don't get it. Out here in San Francisco, the land of fruits and nuts, our supervisors decided to put an initiative on the ballot giving illegals the RIGHT TO VOTE in certain elections. A judge handed down an order OK'ing greater out-of-state tuitions for citizen students than for in-state illegal aliens. The Dream Act, my ass. Whose dream might that be? We are leaderless, adrift in a wishy-washy grey soup of incompetent idealogues.

Susanne| 12.18.10 @ 12:04AM

Thanks Boomer, really. I've got family here to stay with if it comes to that. I can manage until about March. I've got an idea for a new rule: Congress does not get to go home to campaign until the budget is passed. That would settle that problem during election years at least!!!
