The Spectacle Blog

In an interview with the BBC, Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt said he is “not sure” if e-mail threats sent minutes before two bombs exploded in downtown Stockholm are connected to yesterday’s bombing which killed the attacker and injured two civilians.

The threat stated in part, “Our actions will speak for themselves, as long as you do not stop your stupid war against Islam.”

While Prime Minister Reinfeldt (the leader of Sweden’s ostensibly conservative Moderate Party) might not be sure if the e-mail threat and subsequent bombings are connected, an Islamist website is very sure.  The website, Shumukh al-Islam, identified the bomber as Taimour Abdulwahib Al-Abdaly.  The jihadist forum referred to Al-Abdaly as “our brother” and indicated that Al-Abdaly had “carried out the martyrdom operation in Stockholm.”

The Daily Mail reports that Al-Abdaly was born in Iraq, had moved to Sweden nearly twenty years ago and had attended university in England.  The British daily also indicated that Al-Abdaly had a history of expressing jihadist sympathies posting videos concerning the War in Iraq, Chechnya and Guantanamo Bay.

So is Prime Minister Reinfeldt still not sure if the e-mail threats are connected to the bombings?  He better not be because next time his people might not be so lucky.

PC gone absolutely nuts

They warn ahead of time,
They inform what they're doing as it happens,
And claim credit after the fact
And the PM is "not sure"?

Now the jihadists think SWEDEN is a 'Great Satan'?
Who next? Monaco?

Alan Brooks| 12.13.10 @ 9:06AM

... maybe these are the End Times after all;
if Sweden, of all places, is considered evil by the world's fastest growing religion, then what next? are jumbo jets going to be flown into a couple of tall buildings in Copenhagen?

Can't offend adherents of the "Religion of Peace." So bigoted and unnecessary.

Besides, it distracts from the effort of bringing those nasty ol' Christians into line on modern morality.

Alan Brooks| 12.13.10 @ 10:13AM

They are not nasty, but their religion is too commercial; Santa being sold is naturally okay (that is what he is all about) -
but NOT Jesus.

Alan Brooks| 12.13.10 @ 10:14AM

Jesus as commodity? then no reason to be a Christian would exist.

This is exactly what I think Bill Clinton would've been saying if he was still President when 9/11 happened. "It looks like there were two random plane crashes today, that just coincidentally happened to hit the two largest building standing next to each other in New York City. Oops, make that three random plane crashes today!! Did I say three random? I meant to say four random plane crashes today, most likely caused by the beautiful sunny fall weather we've been having lately, which obviously has been caused by the Scientifically settled Global Warming trend that's destroying our Earth. So let's lower those CO2 emissions, by taxing our energy producers, and thereby their customers too, and we should put an end to all these pesky little plane crashes." Not sure? Who's the Prime Minister again, Hellen Keller?

Texas Mom 2012| 12.12.10 @ 8:13PM

My solution is to promise that we will NOT NUKE Mecca, Medina or Muslim holy sites UNLESS we are hit again. Force Moderate Muslims to police their own, if they fail and America is hit then Nuke Mecca first. If they hit us again, it is a Declaration of War or Jihad and we WILL respond without hesitation by NUKING Mecca. And we will NOT strike unless we are hit again FIRST. The ball is now in their court. Then make sure we FOLLOW through!

Admirable sentiment. Very sensible. We ARE dealing with savages.

Alas, the Ruling Class types wouldn't like it. It's not very NICE, you know. Mustn't offend our enemies.

In related news, good for a change, the Stuxnet worm has derailed Iran's nuclear program. It has done NO harm to any of the other computers it infected not related to Iran's nuclear program. The chief Iranian computer scientist responsible for debugging Stuxnet has been blown up, and is no longer degrading the Earth with his presence.

Some people take Iranian and Islamic terror very seriously. I wonder who?

Occam's Tool| 12.12.10 @ 10:34PM

Of course, Clint supports the Iranians, because, as an American "Patriot," he supports the guys who invaded our embassy.

Occam's Tool| 12.13.10 @ 1:25AM

Yessir, Mark. It makes sense, it's doable and titratable, so it will never be done.

Knut Nilsson| 12.13.10 @ 3:54AM

Mom, spot on. I quote Sam Harris: When your enemy is unscrupulous, you scruples is another weapon in his hand.

Occam's Tool| 12.12.10 @ 10:33PM

And I'm not sure if that bad smell isn't due to the excretions of the Fulvous Whistling Duck (a native species of Kenya)

Incoherence alert!

Spam(ming) gone bad!

(Hold your nose and avert the kiddies' eyes!)

Eric Cartman| 12.13.10 @ 1:49AM

Wow. I never thought about that. Thanks, mary.

Stan_Biyerman| 12.13.10 @ 1:48AM

First of all, it's not a "terrorist attack." It's a "man-caused disaster." Second, Sweden is not fighting a "war" of any kind; it's an "overseas contingency operation." Please keep these concepts straight.

This is a problem of vocabulary and nothing more. If we just use the correct language, this entire problem will vanish.

How could anyone ever "be sure" exactly who bombed Sweden? For all we know, it may have been a disgruntled Girl Scout. Am I right, or what? We may never know which persons/groups are responsible.

It's just astonishing how we can elect leaders who have their heads so deeply screwed into the sand. We will continue to suffer - probaly a lot - until we elect new leaders who can grasp reality and who will deal with the world as it actually is.

The current group of leaders is making matters worse because their cowardice signals weakness and thus invites more attacks. We signal the same weakness when we place fools in high office.

Knut Nilsson| 12.13.10 @ 3:51AM

No, I'm sure the threatening e-mail was just a coincidence and some guy just happened to bomb himself up after the e-mail was sent.

Swedes, please wake up and smell the coffee. Suicide bombing has arrived in Sweden.

hookah | 12.13.10 @ 6:07AM

dealing with savages.

Pekingnews | 12.13.10 @ 6:58AM

Strongly condemned the terrorist attacks

martin j smith| 12.13.10 @ 7:31AM

Mayor of NYC Michael Bloomberg would fit right in with this Swede !!!!!!!!!!!!!! They have very similar dangerous mindsets.

Frank| 12.13.10 @ 7:07PM

The Swedes, for sometime, have circum to a particularly disturbing denial mechanism regarding both Islam and immigration. The very
survival of Swedish identity is at stake and the Swedish Left and the spineless "moderate" parties share complicity. VOTE GEERT WILDERS!
