So much for Derek Jeter and the New York Yankees parting
ways. Jeter has
reportedly signed a three-year contract worth $51 million with
an option for the 2014 season.
While it would
have been nice to see Jeter in a Boston Red Sox
uniform just to make Yankee fans squirm, the
Sox nor any other team outside of the Bronx would have entertained
offering Jeter the kind of money he wanted. Alas Jeter will get his
3,000th hit in Yankee pinstripes.
The Red Sox were nonetheless busy as well
acquiring first baseman Adrian
Gonzalez from the San Diego Padres in exchange for three
minor leaguers. Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein
has long sought Gonzalez who, unlike Jeter, is entering the prime
of his career. Gonzalez, who turns 29 next May, has hit 30 or more
homeruns for four consecutive seasons and has knocked in 100 runs
three of the last four seasons. The acquisition of Gonzalez also
means Kevin Youkilis will return to third base while Adrian Beltre,
who had a stellar year at third with the Sox in 2010, will play
elsewhere in 2011.
It’s December and the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry is in
mid-season form.

I could never cheer Jeter. I couldn't cheer Jeter if he was drafted by the Patriots to polish Brady's Superbowl rings. The guy's a Yankee, period.

When a Yankee great leaves and then comes back in another uniform, we Yankee fans show class and applaud him. Which is more than can EVER be said of the no-class Red Sox fans with regard to those who have left their team.

Oh man. I remember years ago, back when it was the Yankees who had the better franchise, that we would say silly stuff like this.
Jealousy and envy will do that to you.

Yankee fans and CLASS? Been to a game in the Bronx lately? Yankees=class, yes. Yankee fans=class, no. Ever heard of a Bronx cheer?

We didn't boo Wade Boggs when he came back a Tampa Bay Ray and we didn't boo Johnny Damon when he came back a Detroit Tiger. Unlike...... (I needn't say more) :)

I hear he is married into the Steinbrenner family. If this is true then the contract is no surprise.
He has gotten old and his defensive range (not to mention his other skills) is questionable so I guess that the infield will continue to receive a pre-game soaking!
They would be better off looking for a good left handed pull hitter with warning track power in major league sized stadiums who can hit home runs into those oh so close $90.00 bleacher seats in right field during home stands.

"just to make yankee fans squirm"? How about Sox fans?!
