I keep reading about how the WikiLeaks validate recent neoconservative foreign-policy pronouncements. Michael Brendan Dougherty asks, what about the democracy project?

We have yet to see all the documents. Most of what we are hearing is by third parties such as the NYT who were leaked some of the documents ahead of time. Those documents weren't given by Wikileaks. So the selected documents may have a slant depending on who handed them over and which select few were chosen.

Mr. Antle;

If the neocons acknowledged at any level that their disastrous advocacy for invading Iraq created a new set of conditions in the form of Iran winning the war, I might agree with you.

But they are too dishonest and cowardice to do so.

There are still some, even on this site, who think Iraq was a threat, and they have a bunch of links to leak info to prove it!

Speaking of which, if wikileaks is a problem, why does Doug Feith get a pass for e-mailing, wait faxing, his tin foil hat conspiracy list to the Weekly Standard (the article "Case Closed")?

Oh, wait--Babbin might be in trouble too if he take this leaks thing to far--wasn't he a tax payer funded agent for leaks?

The leaks demonstrate that the US shifted away from democracy promotion, somewhat after 2006 but especially after the Obama Administration took over. That, like everything else in the documents, is unsurprising.

Newsflash for James Antle: Throughout the last 110 years, the US has always maintained cordial relations with various dictatorships, because this was believed to be necessary to advance American interests. For at least some time, the US had good relations with the following regimes:
Stalin's USSR
Gorby's USSR
Saudi Arabia
Pahlavi's Iran
Various Latin American military dictatorships such as the Argentine military junta (1976-1983) and the Pinochet regime
The Batista regime
etc.

Sorry, but good relations with certain dictatorships are absolutely necessary to advance American interests.
