President Obama has claimed that one way he’ll pay for his new health-care program is by eliminating waste, fraud and abuse in existing programs. Unfortunately for Hope and Change, tucked away in the sixth paragraph of a press release from the Office of Management and Budget is the admission that “improper payments” — federal money paid to the wrong people, whether through fraud or error — actually increased last year:
Now, because many of the targeted programs - such as Unemployment Insurance and Medicaid - are paying out more benefits as the economic downturn creates more demand for these benefits, the total number paid out in improper payments increased to $125 billion last fiscal year even though the overall error rate declined. This is an unfortunate result of the recession and of basic math: the more that is paid out, the more paid out in error even if the overall rate declines.
And so, despite the increased amount of misspent money, the decreased rate is hailed as “progress” by the administration. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), incoming chairman of the House Oversight Committee, is not persuaded: “It is unthinkable that we have come to accept having a bureaucracy that has institutionalized waste, fraud and abuse to the point where $125 billion in improper payments were made last year.”
Jeff Dunetz at Liberty Pundits:
What your government is telling you, “Yes it’s true, we trashed $125 Billion, but hey, we could have have blown almost $4 Billion more.” Now that makes me feel much better, how about you?
The government reduced waste by 0.0016 but it’s still wasting almost 5.5 cents out of every dollar.

In Britain, defending your property can get you life.
The debacle of this president’s administration is both a cause and a symptom of the decline of American values. Unless Congress impeaches him, that decline will go on unchecked. An eminent jurist surveys the damage and assesses the chances for the recovery of our culture.
It won’t take long for conservatives to scratch this presidential wannabe off their 2008 scorecard.
The American Christmas, like the songs that celebrate it, makes room for everybody under the rainbow. Is that why so many people seem to be hostile to it?
Was the President done in by the economy, or by the politics of the economy?

We are on a one way course to a complete financial collapse of our country, and a shock wave that will make the the depression era look minimal in comparison. Unfortunately the people have trampled over the red flags, and a thousand other warning signs in their quest for self gratification. This will soon cause their demise. When the money becomes worthless and the food and drinkable water becomes scarce, then they will turn and become a nation of inhumane creatures with a cannibalistic nature. These are not my words of future atrocities, but can be found in a dusty covered book in most homes. Not even the rich will survive this Holocaust!

The irony is that they can find the bogus payments but very seldom find the people receiving the money. It's sort of like the mortgage companies can find people that owe them money but can't find the mortgage papers.
At one time, not so long ago, Bank of America was cleaning up inactive accounts and turning the money over to the state of California. They couldn't find people like Bob Hope, Red Skelton, or a 14 year old girl that lived next door to one of their branches.
For all their supposed intelligence, there are idiots running the country and it's institutions...
