Great Moments in Punditry

Bob Shrum’s even-handed assessment of Obama’s electoral “dark passage”:

“Some of the criticisms of Obama and his operation are fair. For example, while rescuing the middle class and the nation from economic catastrophe…”

"Some of the criticisms of Obama and his operation are fair. For example, while rescuing the middle class and the nation from economic catastrophe...would have been a great idea, Obama decided to kick them in the balls and shoot their dog, all the while blaming Bush for his $3 trillion dollar deficit spending. It's what we Democrats do well. "

I've asked this question repeatedly the last year or so, "What exactly did President Obama do to save the US from economic catastrophe?" He did not write either of TARP I or II. TARP II was wating for his signature when he arrived in the Oval Office (TARP was a product of Hank Paulson and Bush). And the verdict is still out concerning Bernecke's QE1 and QE2. Wall St recovered due to monetary policiy only. And it took $2 trillion of dollar weakening liquidity to do that. In the mean time, commodity prices have surged. All in all, crisis had passed by the time Obama was sworn into office.

Since then, the President has borrowed more money in 20 months than Bush did in 8 years. ObamaCare won't be implemented fully until 2014 at the earliest; and his financial reforms were only signed last summer. Again, what did Obama do to save this economy?

And most people forget that he was a Senator . It was on the Dems watch (and not just Bush's) when things went south. Obama acts like his political career in DC began in 2009, and not 2005.

Wouldn't it be great if Bob Shrum is picked to run Obama's reelection campaign, assuming BHO chooses to run? No one can match Bob's losing record, although many pundits give him a run for cluelessness.

Oh wow man, can I have some of that dope what Shrum is on?

For most Americans, Obama doesn't seem to be giving them something they don't have, but instead to be taking away something they already value.

Pundit most in need of being padlocked, yes. Pathetic punditry. It's hard not to laugh at Shrum but you feel creepy - as if you're joining Pepys on a stroll to mock the crazies in Bedlam.

Someone reads that and will now vote for Obama in 2012. And you'll see shows on MSNBC and elsewhere who'll buy the spin-job no matter what proof you may show them proving otherwise--even on absurd statements.

Maybe we can get The Platters back to sing this version:

"Oh yes, I'm the great Persuader,
Persuading that I'm doing well!
My need is such
I persuade too much,
That I'm great, but no one can tell!

Oh Yes, I'm the Great Persuader!
And this job here is getting me down.
I'm not what you see.
I'd much rather be
Standing here wearing a Crown!"

Shrum inhabits an alternate universe where all the Democrats are smart, handsome or pretty, and the righteousness of their cause (however misguided) always overcomes the forces of darkness. That said, could someone take pity on the man and put in a call to the guys with the butterfly nets?
