Gingrich and 2012

Newt Gingrich continues to float the possibility of running in 2012. The Fort Worth Star Telegram reports that in a book appearance:

He said he'll decide in February or March whether to make a bid for the office. It's an enticing thought, he said.

"The clear, vivid choice between where Obama would take us and I think where most Americans want to go makes it very appealing to see if we could actually run a very issue- and education-oriented campaign," he said.

In the run-up to 2008, Gingrich exploited speculation about a possible presidential bid to promote his brand, books, and American Solutions conference before deciding not to launch a campaign. Until he actually announces he's running, I'll continue to assume that's the case this time around.

A good assumption.

Mac | 11.12.10 @ 1:40PM

Would that be the same Newt that sat next to Nancy Pelosi and said we need to do something about man made global warming?

Sean| 11.12.10 @ 1:40PM

Maybe he could lecture us on the dangers of global warming. Newt needs to just go away.

Lesser Weevil| 11.12.10 @ 1:43PM

No Newts is good Newts.

danny| 11.12.10 @ 2:24PM

Lesser Weevil, Ain't that the truth!

bahmi| 11.12.10 @ 2:38PM

Newt must go...he's very similar to John McKain. Erratic, often brilliant, but ultimately a disappointing character.

J.C.Eaton| 11.12.10 @ 2:49PM

If testosterone was gasoline, Newtie wouldn't have enough to drive around the inside of a Cheerio.

Nobama2010| 11.12.10 @ 2:56PM

As a conservative, I would not vote for him. Any guy who divorces his wife while she has cancer is a scumbag

Derek Leaberry| 11.12.10 @ 3:04PM

When the Republican candidates "debate" at these candidate forums, it will be amusing to see Speaker Blabbermouth keep replies to two or three minutes, if he indeed runs. Mr. Gingrich likes to talk and to listen to himself talk and then talk some more.

Gingrich's three marriages and his serial adulteries will limit his appeal and he'll probably not run. Lack of personal virtue works pretty well with the Democrats but the Republicans are a little more stern- only one divorce is allowed and no obvious adultery. Count Senators Vitter and Ensign out as well. The King of Blab, Rush Limbaugh, too.

serfer62| 11.12.10 @ 4:07PM

I think the country has had enough of maligent egos...the lizard has changed his skin too often.

Oldefarte| 11.12.10 @ 4:16PM

Whether he runs or not is immaterial at this point. There are numerous available Republican candidates that [any/all] would be preferable to the Muslim Harvard law degreed MORON that is on a path toward the complete destruction of this country. Some of us would vote for Howdy-Doody over the current occupant of the White House!!!!

Explosion Proof Light| 11.13.10 @ 12:35AM

For most Americans, Obama doesn't seem to be giving them something they don't have, but instead to be taking away something they already value.

Oldefarte| 11.13.10 @ 11:33AM

Obama is destroying this country from his socialistic domestic welfare proposals, his insane foreign policy methods, his criminal attacks upon states/regions for political purposes, etc. There is nothing good [and never will be] about he and his administrations activities, and this country is forced to bear the brunt of his actions sadly!!!!!!!!

JimH| 11.15.10 @ 11:57AM

Historically it is too early to say, but in the long run the election of Obama may have helped the conservative/libertarian cause far more than a McCain victory would have. His policies and appointments have clearly concentrated people’s minds as the dangers of Progressive statism. Think of it as an innoculation against even more statism.

Lucis mommy| 12.28.10 @ 9:10PM

What your saying resembles George W. NOY Obama. You conservatives are nothing more than copycats. You obviously don't follow politics or you would know your comments are incorrect..lol. Open your crummy ears to real conversation instead of lies. Have a nice day

paultex| 11.12.10 @ 4:38PM

Newt hasn't run for election/re-election since the late 1990s. He's definitely out of the habit of campaigning for office. In fact, he may have forgotten how to run for office.

Beating Obama in 2012 will require a solid Republican candidate who is accustomed to fighting hard for votes while fighting off attacks from the left-wingers. That doesn't sound like the present-day Newt. You time on the scene is over, Newt. The game has changed without you in it.

donserge| 11.12.10 @ 4:49PM

Read or listen carefully to any Gingrich speech and you will find an "all inclusive Republican Party" between the lines.....read Snowe, Collins, Graham, Murkowski, etc.

Sam| 11.12.10 @ 5:05PM

I would like to see Mitch Daniels or John Thune win the GOP nomination. If it's Sarah Palin or Newt Gingrich, I will be voting for Obama.

bobbymike| 11.12.10 @ 8:19PM

Sam - good plan vote for an avowed socialist bent on destroying the country over Palin or Gingrich.

Lucismommy| 12.28.10 @ 9:15PM

Your obviously speaking about Georg W. You repubs hate it so bad that you lost that you cannot even see a half desent president when it hits u in the face. Grow up and go with the flow. Bush hurried our asses and your still on his side. I really don't get you people. Do you like what he did ti our country. Geesh......

CalMark| 11.12.10 @ 8:51PM

There was a lot of excitement about Newt running in '08. At the very last minute, he backed out--and there was a huge letdown.

Newt missed his big chance. And once you've done that, you shouldn't come back and try again. It only leads to disaster for yourself--and your Party.

Anyway, anybody who says they'd vote for Obama over Palin or even Gingrich is not even a Republican, let alone a conservative.

Taxpayer| 11.13.10 @ 12:22AM

Yes, exactly. Newt had his chance--in 1994. And blew it.

danny| 11.12.10 @ 9:17PM

For some reason every time I think of Newt, DeDe Scozsafava or whatever the hell her name is comes to mind.

Oldefarte| 11.13.10 @ 11:36AM

Correspondingly, for every time you think of Obama, do you also think of Pilosi, Reid, Jones, Berwick, Emmanuel, Garrett, etc????????????

Syd Chaden| 11.13.10 @ 12:02PM

Politically, Gingrich is probably the most intelligent, best-informed, most experienced potential candidate of the bunch. However, at the moment, our major need is not for political know-how in the White House. We need someone who has demonstrated the leadership, management and economic know-how and skills required to best run the country. Lawyers need not apply.

Sean| 11.13.10 @ 2:41PM

Stop with the Gingrich being the "most intelligent, best-informed, most experienced potential candidate" bull. He is not and never will be. He fell for the global warming scam. How intelligent and well informed do you think that is?

All Hail The Stupid Party!| 11.13.10 @ 4:09PM

If Newt Gingrich runs in 2012 he will be smoked. Gingrich is not in it to serve Americans, he is in it to accrue more power for himself. Gingrich is the GOP status quo & has no problem crossing the aisle to pass bad legislation with the left. Gingrich is also involved with the CFR who definitely do not have America's best interests in mind. Gingrich surrendered any chance of becoming POTUS when he fell for AGW & became chummy with The Shrieker Of The House & when he endorsed Dede Scozzafava over the conservative in New York's 23rd Congressional district last year & lambasted conservatives for disagreeing forcefully with his endorsement. Newt Gingrich is just another John McCain & like McCain he will always come before the American people. No thanks Newt. Go away please.

Lucis mommy| 12.28.10 @ 9:42PM

You know..I would not vote for newt but the right n left r supposed to work together so I could not blame either party if they would just work together on important things. I wish there were no more dividing lines. This is causing so much hatred among the voters.

PattyMor| 11.13.10 @ 4:44PM

Newt has some great ideas but he is best left to the think tank, We someone who can take on Obama and the establishment Republicans.

Anyone who has done a commercial on global warming with Nancy Pelosi is OUT. PERIOD.

Jim Hlavac| 11.13.10 @ 5:01PM

It would be a disaster from the family values angle. Third marriage, two divorces, gay sister. What a fine speech he might give defending family values from the onslaught of us gay people asking permission to marry just once under any name. And if he's a hypocrite and sinner on the foundations of society, on what else could he be too?

Occam's Tool| 11.14.10 @ 1:12AM

I think Thune, Jindal, or Pence have the Gravitas to make a run. Don't rule out Marco Rubio, incidentally. Another fine potential candidate. But Pawlenty is not inspiring, and Palin, unfortunately, is a highly polarizing figure.

But any of them is better than Obama. I don't think Newt's going to run.

Margie| 11.14.10 @ 8:05PM

I agree with your suggested guys, all excellent. And how about Allen West? He can run on the platform of Restoring American Exceptionalism, like his website says. And he's very pro-Israel. He gets it. He'd be the perfect antitheses to Obama.

pete2| 11.14.10 @ 11:22AM

About time conservatives got over the Newt Gingricht, Rush Limbaugh, lovefest and starting looking at real conservatives like Sarah Palin. That woman has done more damage to the left than Newt or Rush's mouth. So all you ditto heads should smarten up some.

SpiralArchitect| 11.14.10 @ 1:08PM

Surely sounds like you know a little about Palin & almost nothing about Rush.

Palin, at best would have to do a long venture over a couple years to 'let' people find out just exactly she did do in Alaska.

Perhaps if she could shake her ( incomplete and wrongfully labeled) 'quitter' label she could make a realistic run at POTUS.

Until then there would just be a divided vote versus Democrats; obviously not a good way to wing a vote, be it pop or thru the electoral cabbage :)

Rush & Newt both are Generals, leaders and planners. Not good as POTUS material, vote dividers each - a gimme for the opposition.

Cris Worth| 11.14.10 @ 6:27PM

Gingrich proved his mettle as a planner and nuts & bolts kind a guy. Thank you for the 1994 election cycle the Contract for America was a stroke of genius; it nationalized the election and gave voters a clear alternative unlike this election cycle where the GOP has no distinguishable alternative plan. But it ends there Gingrich is too old, his personal life questionable and he flunked as Speaker.

JimmyT| 11.14.10 @ 10:28PM

The only thing Gingrich is running is his mouth. He is as far out of sync with what has happened in America, via the TP, as all the other establishment apparatchiks. He must be planning a new book in 2012.

ACynic| 11.15.10 @ 10:38AM

If Newt runs, the dems will win. He has skill in explaining and presenting ideas and mostly conservative views, but he is a divisive figure and he is easy to dislike. He should remain an advisor to conservatives.
