Over the course of defending his decision to pursue a national health care push that he said he knew would be politically unpopular President Obama fired a salvo at his potential challenger in 2012, Mitt Romney.

The transcript of his appearance on “60 Minutes” reads:

President Obama:…I made the decision to go ahead and do it. And it proved as costly politically as we expected. Probably actually a little more costly than we expected, politically.

KROFT: In what ways?

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well, partly because I couldn’t get the kind of cooperation from Republicans that I had hoped for. We thought that if we shaped a bill that wasn’t that different from bills that had previously been introduced by Republicans — including a Republican governor in Massachusetts who’s now running for President — that, you know, we would be able to find some common ground there. And we just couldn’t.

And that was costly partly because it created the kind of partisanship and bickering that really turn people off.

Obama’s campaign strategy against Romney would be pretty clear — to emphasize the similarities between their two health care plans, and use that issue to highlight Romney’s reputation as a flip flopper.

Another observation: It’s pretty audacious for Obama to blame Republicans for making it politically costly, because the reason why health care dragged on for so many months was that it was difficult to even marshall the support of members of his own party in Congress.

A Mormon president? that would be strange.

We'd have to move DC to Salt Lake City!

Could barry be dumber? No! What he fails to mention-and what the brain dead retard who was interviewing him fail to bring up, is that the Mass constitution allowed for the healthcare bill in Mass-the US Constitution does not. Barry again tips his cards as the most unintellectual president in recent history.
Thanks for proving me right day after day for the last 2 years mr. "president".

Seems to me B.O. WANTS to have Romney as his opponent in 2012 after reading his remarks. Understandably so also because it would remove the health care issue from the race, not to mention B.O. will defeat Romney handily. No More RINOs!

True Republican| 11.8.10 @ 8:13PM

Actually exactly the opposite is true. These kinds of jabs aren't made towards someone the president wants to run against. They're made towards someone he WILL run against. Mitt Romney is a TRUE Republican who did more to get other conservative Republicans elected during the midterms than ANY other Republican hands down.

Patriot| 11.13.10 @ 4:19PM

TRUE RINO is more like it. Romney's candidacy is dead and there's nothing he can do about it.

JonH| 11.8.10 @ 2:17PM

ACTUALLY.... A flip- flopper fear can be foolish!! If a context or other situation changes, then you want someone intelligent to KNOW WHEN TO SELF CORRECT. That's the problem with BARRY. He can't change lanes intellectually. Flexibility is important in a CEO type. So is creativity. Romney has these things and more.

MassCare will be a huge albatros around Mitt's neck. I sure hope we can find a better prospect for '12. Romney had his shot and couldn't even beat Mcain for heaven's sake.

Obama wants Romney out at the primary level. He knows darn well. He never says anything unscripted. This is attempt to manipulate the Republican primary voter and I for one resent it. "wasn't that different"? Is Obama smoking something? No, he is trying to blur the distinctions, on purpose. There is very little the two plans have in common. But everyone is chanting like a mantra, the one thing they have in common not looking at the enormous overreach that Obama took and Romney abhors.

Great post---soooooo true

Obama will smash RINO Myth Romney just like he smashed RINO McCain.

Dave| 11.8.10 @ 5:30PM

The MA plan was far different than Obama's plan. The MA plan was based on market solutions, while Obama wants to destroy the insurance industry. The MA plan was supported by vast numbers of individuals (from both parties). Obama had to bribe people to vote for it. The MA plan was a state solution, while Obama's is crammed down our throats at the federal level. I would vote for Romney any day!

If you're going to troll for Myth, you should at least know how to spell the old RINO's name correctly.

Loser.

The Obamascam "health" bill is a way to try and nationalize another business. The choice is (has always been) capitalism or socialism. We need to stay awake and fight every effort to undermine capitalism.

Wotan| 11.8.10 @ 7:58PM

I agree with AHTSP. Obama knows he'd spank Romney in a potential 2012 contest, so he takes a "jab" at him now to stir up Republican interest in, and support for, Romney. Republicans dislike Obama, so anyone that Obama dislikes will be championed by Republicans, and idiots like Hannity will rush to Romney's defense, generating even more attention for him. Obama would never take such an early "jab" at someone like Ron Paul, because he knows Dr. Paul would beat him in 2012.

True Republican| 11.8.10 @ 8:17PM

Ahahaha, thats funny. Ron Paul.lol

All Hail The Stupid Party!| 11.8.10 @ 8:33PM

Michael Medved, is that really you?

Susan| 11.9.10 @ 9:23AM

I agree to disagree with you and I do

bluecollarbytes| 11.8.10 @ 8:58PM

I think Romney will make a fine cabinet member.
