Republicans will take over the House of Representatives in
January with their largest majority since the 1940s.
When the GOP controlled the House from 1995 to 2007, they never
held more than 231 seats. While
the results from a number of close races are still outstanding, it
looks like Republicans will come out of this election with
somewhere north of 240 seats.
That would make it the largest Republican majority since the
80th Congress of 1947 to 1949, when they controlled 246 seats.
