Via Jim Geraghty, I see this stunning finding from the latest Gallup poll on the Republican advantage when it comes to voter enthusiasm:

The record level of overall enthusiasm is primarily the result of Republicans’ heightened excitement — 63% of Republicans (including Republican-leaning independents) say they are more enthusiastic than usual about voting. That not only greatly exceeds Democrats’ expressed enthusiasm this year, but also is substantially higher than what Gallup has measured for either party’s supporters on the eve of a midterm election.

The high level of Republican enthusiasm has led to the largest gap in enthusiasm by party of any recent midterm elections, 19 percentage points. The prior highs were nine points in favor of the Democrats in 2006, and nine points in favor of the Republicans in 1994.

Means less than nothing unless they get their butts to the voting booth, rather than shouting and exclaiming their preferences to anonymous telephone pollsters. I suspect the Repubs will not do nearly as well as prognostications, since too many of them have been gloating and counting their chickens since last spring. Pride goeth before....

John Q,

Have you voted yet?

John Q. Public| 11.2.10 @ 12:44PM

Kenny baby, I voted twice. Sure hope I'm wrong about the results, but I got a bad feeling. Assuage my anxiety, please.

John Q,

I was anxious until about 10 days ago, when I spoke to my brother-in-law, a fairly reliable liberal, though smart and possessing common sense. He lives in California. He was bitching about all the spending and said that he would vote Republican across the board if he could really believe they would reduce spending. (It shows the opportunity the Republicans have if they would have the courage to embrace it).

Obviously, this is anecdotal but I think it points to the enthusiasm gap this year. Thinking Democrats just cannot defend what their party has done the last two years. That doesn't mean they will vote Republican but I do think it means that a significant percentage of them will not bother to vote, or maybe vote for some Green Party candidate just to stay involved in the electoral process. Now the non-thinking Democrats (I know I am being redundant) will still vote Democrat down the line, but what percentage of the voting public are they?

Pennsylvania turnout is higher than expected in important areas.
The poll workers are reporting in on their mid-day report, that they are "Shocked" by the heavy turnout in Toomey's home Allentown & Bethlehem Area.

The Collar Counties of Philadelphia are important and Pennsylvania Attorney General Republican Tom Corbett is Polling ahead of Democrat Onoranto in The Gubernatorial election for Fast Eddie Rendell's Seat.

@John Q
I'm one of the "gloaters".
I hadn't voted since 1998, and didn't intend to ever again.
But I felt like camping out at my polling place last night I was so anxious to express myself physically with a vote.
Don't worry, it's going to be a slaughter.
