Omar Khadr, an al-Qaeda fighter who, among other things, murdered a medic in Afghanistan, just reached a plea deal wherein he’s sentenced to one more year in prison in America, followed by seven years in Canada. Tim Mak notes that Canadian parole boards tend to be pretty lenient, and talks to Canadian criminal justice and security experts about how likely Khadr is to go free.

According to CFP, Hillary Clinton involved herself behind the scenes to push for this leniency, hoping that"""the world would like us more""".

Wow, this particular AmSpecBlog seems to have left out some of the relevant particulars of the case, dont you think?

Of some relevance to the decision and the sentence are the facts that:
-He didnt 'murder' a medic, he threw a grenade in the middle of a lengthy firefight which killed a medic. Dont get me wrong, thats absolutely awful of course, but since when did we charge people in the middle of a firefight in a warzone with committing a crime?
-Secondly, and to my mind, far more importantly, when this crime took place, Kadr was 15 years old.
-Thirdly, he has already served 6 years in prison (mostly in Gitmo). Add to that one more year then seven in Canada, and we have a 14 year sentence, fairly harsh for a crime that has no precident in American civil or military law, and can hardly even be considered a crime considering the circumstances.

And as an aside: Bobby: "He will be a hero to the Liberal media". Seriously? That doesnt even make any sense. I dont like Liberals either, but the whole 'liberals = nazi traitors' thing just makes you look foolish.

I am with you Rodger K. I see no crime this guy has committed. This is typical Democrat criminalizing war.

This guy should not be punished. He should be held for the duration like any POW. Of course if al Qaeda does not surrender for the next 10, 50, 100 years, well that is the tough luck of a POW who ended up in on the wrong side of the wrong war.
