Iran’s War in Iraq

The headlines out of today’s Wikileaks document dump mostly focus on civilian casualties and abuses by the Iraqi government, and while that’s understandable, the documents that fill in details about Iranian operations in Iraq shouldn’t be lost in the shuffle. Here’s the New York Times write-up on that aspect of the story.

UPDATE: And here’s the NYT story on the document that indicates that the American hikers held hostage in Iran were picked up on the Iraqi side of the border.

A regime change in Iran would end all this

Matt| 10.24.10 @ 6:24AM

Doubtful. The regime change in 1979 didn't have any effect on Iran's policy in Iraq, or Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Um..right. I'm sure if the Shah were still in office he'd be supporting a bunch of yibbering fanatics who lived to kill the soldiers of, oh wait, his greatest ally and patron.

Better yet a few well aimed nuclear warheads would change the minds of our enemies to dust! and put an end to it all, period.

Yet you have to admit Iranians are very brave-- they will fight to the last Iraqi.

Alan Brooks| 10.24.10 @ 10:57PM

Inshallah, and for the Persian national honor,
certain Iranians will fight to the last drop of an Iraqi's blood.

I believe Thomas Jefferson has the last word on this and every subject ,concerning the take over of other countries by force to grease the political machine in America. Speaking to future generations after his election to office of president in 1800 he warned us all " Do not get involved, "Politically" with foreign countries or America will suffer great loss"! I ask you, "How many lives of Americans have been sacrificed for those in Washington, who are only there for their own self interests? Despite the crooked polls, the number is astronomical! As many of us who would like to believe our military men and women are fighting over seas so we here in America can continue to remain free. This is nothing short of brain washing of the masses through liberal media propaganda. The worlds population now at 7 Billion were called "Sheep" thousands of years ago now, and how fitting a name. For we will all follow one another to the sheering and slaughter, of the repetitious deceptive tune of Liberty and Justice for all.

Iran's influence in Iraq increased as a result of the American invasion. No kidding. That's really a big revelation considering that the country is predominantly Shiite and Saddam was Sunni and everyone knew that Iran would essentially make Iraq a puppet state. Perhaps the deep thinking neo cons didn't know this.

By all means, we should start another pointless war on Iran. Waste our blood and my tax dollars. I am all for it.

It is this kind of garbage that continue to make me fear for my Republican party. They are still under the sway of these idiots.

"Pointless war" is isolato-babble for "war that takes more than a 2s soundbite to explain".

And, similarly, "start" is isolato-babble for "fight back". I'm sure if we ever elect one of them they'll bow three times, careful to never turn their back, as they hurry to leave the Middle East before Mahmoud Ahmadinejad takes offense.
