John Bolton for President?

UN Ambassador John Bolton is "very seriously" considering running for president in 2012, Townhall's Guy Benson reports.

In an interview, Bolton told Benson that he's even taken the step of "consulting with high-level campaign operatives to discuss feasibility and logistics."

Bolton has had a lot of fans among conservatives ever since his bitter confirmation battle during the Bush administration. Though he's unlikely to have a broad enough appeal to capture the nomination, he could still have an impact on the race. He's consistently been one of the most articulate voices for a muscular U.S. foreign policy, and a leading critic of the current administration when it comes to international affairs, dubbing Obama our first "post-American president."

Should he enter the GOP race, he could help generate more discussion about foreign policy so that it doesn't get ignored at a time of economic challenges.

I don't know about President Bolton, but he would make an awesome Secretary of State.

glorious| 10.2.10 @ 9:34AM

I agree 100%.

JTK| 10.1.10 @ 12:02PM

This is a joke I assume.

If serious, then perhaps Lyndon Larouche could be his running mate.

jerry j| 10.3.10 @ 4:06AM

Obama Biden are a nightmare, I'll be happy to take the joke.

Oldefarte| 10.1.10 @ 12:38PM

Nah, Bolton is a dedicated American and an intelligent political force, but he's not what's needed as president. He should though be highly considered for maybe Secretary of State or Defense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ken (Old Texican)| 10.1.10 @ 1:11PM

I really like Mr. Bolton.
Sarah should announce him as her Secretary of State. If she announces.

Brian| 10.3.10 @ 5:14AM

I think he needs to run to clear the air (like Al Haig did in '88), and to establish himself with a more prominent platform.
I'll donate, I want him in the debates, and then I want him as Palin's Secretary of State or VP.

Paul Gessing| 10.1.10 @ 2:51PM

Bolton is crazy and loves war/hates freedom. Of course, Palin is too. They'd make a great team running for office on Pluto.

Walley| 10.1.10 @ 3:02PM

Is that where you're from, moron?

Dynastor Killgore| 10.1.10 @ 9:22PM

Prerequisite of fool to be in your club? Oh, no, just flexing your regurgitation muscle. Let's just call him some names. You must have learned to be a concise "me, too!"-typist at, let me guess, the Huffington Post. I've never seen more stoic dolts than on that site.

gus hawkins| 10.2.10 @ 8:33PM

Mr. Gessing, like our current Pres. seems to think, that only on Pluto, radical nations will not respond favorably to gullible schmoozing. In the real world, however, I would suggest he could represent the Cuban, or maybe the Venezuelan people.

Paul| 1.12.11 @ 11:51PM

He's the epitome of freedom and force is necessary to maintain it - you're just too intellectually bankrupt and gutless to deserve it. Your limp wristed foreign policy is what got is into this mess through the Clinton years.

C bowen| 10.1.10 @ 3:11PM

Bolton is certainly pro-gays in the military/pro gay marriage so the liberal Republicans of the Cheney wing will love him-- and I can only imagine what "conservatives" Mr. Klein is referring to.

PCC| 10.1.10 @ 3:16PM

Mr. Bolton's views are entertaining and often quite incisive. Unfortunately, he is a jerk and couldn't get elected dog catcher.

Veronica| 10.1.10 @ 4:31PM

Bolton would be a shoe-in if American fully understood that our domestic agenda (not just our foreign policy) is pursued through Obama's progressive, globalist worldview -- and that Bolton is just the man to counter the damage done by Obama because Bolton fully understands Obama's MO and can work to block what (global) progressives are trying to achieve through Congress and the Judicial branches, not just the Executive Branch.

Bolton has the transnational progressive understanding, and is the antidote to Obama's (and the progressives') poison. He knows this.

Dynastor Killgore| 10.1.10 @ 9:12PM

I completely agree with your opinion. Such a shame that the dullard masses will never "get" the ramifications of international positioning. He is the one person I would trust to truly get the international ball rolling in a positive (pro-USA) direction. Bummer the autocrats will never allow that to happen. Perfect synopsis of the subject at hand. Bravo!

fairminded| 10.2.10 @ 9:48AM

Mr. Bolton demonstrates leadership and a clear vision for the country. He will have many detractors since this type of vision is detested in the progressive movement; however most of the country is looking for a common sense leader. It should make for an interesting primary season if he decides to run.

Mike| 10.1.10 @ 5:57PM

Veronica hit the nail on the head and its time we went as far right as we did to the left when we elected this big wimp. This country needs the strongest leader we can find to take us back to being a world leader and not a Chinese lap dog.

C Bowen| 10.1.10 @ 6:15PM

The pro-gay agenda hippies arrives to tout Bolton.

Mark| 10.1.10 @ 8:47PM

Bolton is by far the smartest person in the party to announce his intentions- I'd vote for him in a second.

Dynastor Killgore| 10.1.10 @ 9:15PM

Let me second your sentiment. In a heartbeat. He will simply never, never make the ballot. No free-thinkers (esp. pro-US) allowed in the club.

cmi| 10.3.10 @ 1:43PM

So would I.

bluecollarbytes| 10.1.10 @ 9:53PM

Bolton could make sure there is a serious discussion of the need to retake our proper place in the world, which includes being in opposition to totalitarian forms of govt- because they threaten us ultimately.
---
The 'free world's' survival is dependent upon the continuing threat of a free, militarily-powerful U.S., a threat that we used to pose against the bad guys. The world seems uneasy with the 'new' America because there is no connection to reality. This fractures what were previously common goals between free nations. China would have no problem replacing us as the world's prime influence. I think they've moved up their legendary long-term strategic time frame since Obama came to power, exponentially. We could use some Bolton-like concern in our candidates for 2012.

bob jones| 10.2.10 @ 8:12AM

Mr Bolton would make a great president, vp, sec of state - but his combination of honesty, integrity, patriotism and toughness would make it tough to get elected when too much of the media and general population have just the opposite traits.

W. Smith| 10.2.10 @ 10:06AM

Right Bob...many times I've thought where are you Harry Truman now that we need you so desperately. The only problem with John Bolton is that he is far too pragmatic for the wimp population, who would play the political correctness game until Obama took us to the rice fields, or to dimmitude (it's in the Quran).

Ray Burke| 10.2.10 @ 2:23PM

Bolton is just what we need at this juncture. Problem. The current collection of misfits are frightened to death of him and will take every opportunity to savage him. LOL, John.

Charles Trainor| 10.2.10 @ 3:07PM

Obama will jockey any Trojan horse right through the gates. When he is gone, the Presidential candidate,if not Bolton, must include John Bolton as Sec.Of State in the platform speech.

Bob in OC| 10.2.10 @ 3:10PM

Bolton would be good on the team of grown ups running the Country. Sec of State would work for the USA.

The Stash would have to go if any run for POTUS.

John in BC| 10.2.10 @ 3:50PM

Best news to come down the pike in a long time. One can only hope.

Rick Caddell| 10.2.10 @ 5:28PM

John Bolton may possess a razor-sharp intellect, but he has a habit, almost an addiction, of being gratuitously offensive to anyone within earshot.

I doubt any of his colleagues or neighbors would vote for him for anything, and he'd probably have to campaign hard to garner his family's votes.

Bolton as an appointee? Sure. Bolton as an elected official? Never.

Paul| 1.13.11 @ 12:04AM

Bolton is not offensive, just delightfully blunt and to the point. If the truth offends people than they deserve to be offended. He is a voice of moral clarity in defense of free societies at a time when Obama has substituted moral cowardice for same. There will be no second guessing our foreign policy role with him in charge. He understands foreign policy in a 21st century world.

David| 10.2.10 @ 6:49PM

Bolton would be my scoice for Secretary of State in a Sarah Palin, Jan Brewer Administration.
I wish Dick Cheney's health would allow him to be President.

ann| 10.3.10 @ 7:37PM

David, I like the way you think!

paul revere| 10.4.10 @ 12:11AM

Palin won't run for VP again--she's been there done that. Bolton would make a great Secretary of State in Palin's administration though.

Red| 10.5.10 @ 11:14PM

Bolton would make a great President. Besides being solid on national defense, he is a solid conservative. His sturdy tough-talk would be a welcome sign for many Americans who want the liberal agenda repealed.

John Bolton for President? Where can I mail a check and when can I start walking a precinct for him?
VP? Governor Brewer for sure, Palin for DOE

Anne | 10.22.10 @ 2:05AM

the winning ticket is Christie/Bolton 2012

John| 1.2.11 @ 10:14AM

John Bolton is a globalist scumbag member of the CFR. People who say "he'd be a great president" are right. He'd be just as great as Bush and Obama at licking the boots of their puppet masters. You liberals here need to wake up and smell what's right in front of you. Bolton is a pro-war "my country, right or wrong type." What's conservative about that?

lara| 1.3.11 @ 3:42PM

I could vote for Bolton.

tom chastain| 1.29.11 @ 10:30PM
