Michelle Malkin, I see a
report on ethnic activists playing up the military service
provision of the DREAM Act in an (unsuccessful) attempt to swing
Republican votes — despite the progressives’ “uncomfortable”
feelings about the military:
DREAMers, as the bill’s youth activists are often called, are
hoping to exploit the military service provision in the DREAM Act
that’s been contentious in progressive circles, and therefore not
much discussed. “The reality is that on our end, our messaging has
ignored the military option,” DREAM Act activist Mohammad Abdollahi
said, acknowledging that it’s an uncomfortable alliance especially
for communities of color who are often targeted by military
recruiters.
Today, reporters heard from Yahaira Carrillo, who spoke at a
DREAM Act kickoff event today. Carrillo was one of four other
activists who risked deportation when they were arrested after
staging a sit-in in Sen. John McCain’s Arizona office on May 17.
Carrillo, who’s lived in the country for 18 years, recalled the
crushing conversation with a high school ROTC instructor who told
her it was no use continuing in the program because she’d never be
able to serve in the military. “If and when the DREAM Act is
passed,” she said, “I will still consider joining the military.
Because I love this country that much, that I want to serve.”
As the old Kenny Rogers/Kim Carnes song says, don’t fall in love
with a DREAMer. They’ll always take you in.

Apparently she doesn't love it enough to apply for citizenship ...

Had the DREAMers limited their legislation to providing a path to citizenship through actual military service then the legislation would have passed easily. The issue is not military service as a path to citizenship, it is receiving a free college education at US taxpayer expense while here illegally and then being rewarded with citizenship on top of that. The first (military) route would provide an influx of disciplined, dedicated, assimilated, English-speaking patriots (for the overwhelming majority, I know there's always an exception, but you can't make the exception the rule). The second (college) option would give us a crop of entitlement-minded, Marxist-indoctrinated Bill Ayers wanna-bes with no attachment to this country but full citizenship rights. For whatever it's worth.

Has anyone considered that DREAM Act illegal aliens would be used to fill slots in Obama's contemplated homeland army? Does this prospect cause concern?

I couldn't help but notice Mohammad Abdollahi being referenced. Fantastic. Just what we need. Give the one of the greatest gifts on the earth (American citizenship) to activist muslims who will use our own freedoms against us. What is the matter with our nation.

Why do people say it's free ducation.?
Being and undocumented student does not allow you to get state/federal aid, in the form of scholarships, FAFSA, Internships...
Which means that all their tuition comes out of their pocket. What many people fail to realize is that many already have a B.S or a B.A under their belt. They're seeking to pass this DREAM Act because they need to work LEGALLY. On top of that if they go to masters program they are not elegible for Pell Grants.
They need to become legal residents and contribute to our economy. The only free eduction they received was in grade school-high school. But they will easily make it up once they start working for what they studied for.
They're much American as any american. Not allowing them to become legal residents will just clump them into category of undocumented workers. What a waste of talent and youth.

Many recieve free college education today; several states do not make any distinction when handing out money. If they really needed to work LEGALLY, they would have entered the country LEGALLY to begin with, or applied for citizenship when offered the opportunity in the past. If a person has a B.S or B.A. their chance of entering LEGALLY are much better to begin with.

Why are you folks being so distainful of the service of others for the military. It was you GOP'er who got us two immoral, unnecessary wars of choice based on lies and now you want to denigrade the service of others? Given that you folks and your families didn't bother to serve in either wars, you should be ashamed of yourselves. The military is an honorable profession, but then again, most of you have no clue about the military or its demands. Anyone willing to service this country and its uncalled for wars, deserves better than this drivel.
