At least, that’s the message the swiftly declining mainstream media would have us believe. O’Donnell is downright scary, they say. She doesn’t earn much and has defaulted on her mortgage. She thinks teenagers shouldn’t have sex before marriage. She’s probably a creationist. She’s pro-life. She’s a Catholic, maybe evangelical.
Quick, kiddies, run and hide.
One of the most egregious examples of the fear mongering is courtesy of CBS News. Like a dog responding to Pavlov’s bell, Dan Rather’s former hangout reacted to O’Donnell’s victory Tuesday night with this pathetic excuse for a news story. For “balance,” the reporter fled to Bill Clinton’s former surgeon general, Joycelyn Elders, to get a range of quotes on why O’Donnell is batty. One of the choicest gems:
CBSnews.com: O’Donnell feels that there should be an absolute ban on abortion.
Elders: Rape is a despicable crime. Just as despicable is the idea that women who get pregnant should not have absolute control over their own bodies.
Huh? So O’Donnell calling for an abortion ban is extreme, but Elders comparing pro-lifers with the “despicable crime” of rape isn’t? The scary part is that reporters and editors at CBS News think so. No wonder they view O’Donnell as a puritanical psychopath. I mean, she thinks first graders shouldn’t get taxpayer-funded condoms? What’s up with that?
Part of the media’s O’Donnell heckling is due to the urban bubble journalists and broadcasters live in. They can’t fathom how an intelligent human being could take the conservative line on human life and sexuality — let alone the deficit — because none of their friends or colleagues do. Their mistake is presupposing that the New York City crowd is an authority on everything — or anything.
There’s also a tinge of frustration in the scorn. Two years after Barack Obama’s ascendancy to the Oval Office and the launch of a new generation of liberal policies, voters are turning on the “hope” agenda en masse. Inside-the-beltway forces can’t fathom it, so they deny it, excuse it, make fun of it — anything to avoid the truth.
Will O’Donnell win? Polling, at least so far, says no. But in a strongly anti-incumbent year, when voters hate just about anyone with a “D” beside their name, anything can happen. And O’Donnell is a prime conduit for anti-Washington sentiment in 2010.
Here’s to O’Donnell for taking a strong stand on social and fiscal conservatism, and refusing to apologize.

I don't care what his GPA at Harvard (although, since he graduated magna cum laude, it doesn't take a Harvard grad to deduce that it was very high) was. I don't really care that Ms. O'Donnell had difficulty paying her mortgage. One of the few things I like about the Tea Party is that they seem willing to nominate people who are not part of the wealthy elite. But a writer for the Spectator complaining about irrelevant fear mongering is rank hypocrisy. Are you really claiming people here wouldn't be constantly ranting about Obama defaulting on his mortgage as evidence to prove that he's a welfare loving marxist facist muslim? Try to show some intellectual consistency, that's all I'm asking.

Defaulting on a mortgage - an event that a large proportion of the population is experiencing thanks to Obamanomics - is far different than swindling people, which is the act of a welfare-loving marxist. Who did Obama pay to hide the evidence at harvard? He graduated magna cum laude-that means he had some of the highest grades in his class. I think you're getting confused-you probably want to talk about his transcript from Columbia. I assume he chose not to release that because he had mediocre grades.

BTW, O'Donnell did not 'default' on her mortgage and she showed the documents that proved it (unlike Obama, btw). And O'Donnell did not lie on about her diploma either.

Well, in the first place Tony Rezko would have picked up the mortgage payments on a house that Obama got at a sweetheart price, with no strings attached, of course. I mean, this is Chicago, so no underhanded stuff going on there. Or, Michelle could have gone back to her $300K+ a year no show job. No hanky panky there, either. His College Diploma? Does he really have one? Have we seen his transcripts? Maybe he did lie about it, we don't know.

The difference is that there actually is evidence he at least went to college. There is evidence he is not a lesbian since he married a woman and is male. You see, virtually everything one does leaves traces of it somewhere.
Yet despite that fact that graduating from college and having high grades is something colleges keep track of and paperwork on, he cannot and will not produce any physical evidence when it must exist. That's the crux of the problem.
And that's unlike O'Donnell whose diploma is a actually a matter of public record and not sealed somewhere.
You argument is basically that since not everything about Obama cannot be physically proved or disproved, we should just accept what he says about everything even when it *can* be disproved or proved. Very specious.

As for diplomas, you're getting them mixed up with transcripts.
I don't think Obama claims he had high grades in college. I assume he didn't release his transcripts because he was a middling student. You know, it would prove he's only president because of affirmative action.

The primary person behind the theory that Obama is a Muslim is Obama. The suspicion is that's why he has not released biographical records. Some self-identifier designations that are convenient for affirmative action purposes aren't so useful for running for President. He could erase that suspicion easily. Let's see an old passport or a college file.

Well, Fox is one of the largest corporate donors to the GOP. But yeah, I think it's part of the mainstream. It's very popular, it helps shape public debate, etc.
An old passport wouldn't show his religion. I understand why people doubt the sincerity of Obama's Christianity. But I haven't seen anything to suggest he's a muslim. My guess is that he's probably something of an agnostic.

What an exciting election year. All these non-professional politicians out there saying what they think and not what their pollsters say the public wants to hear. Its a spectator sport watching the news media dissecting every word and phrase not realizing that many are paraphrasing their Book of Faith. Maybe some of them should Google or Bing the phrase in a web site that includes the Bible and then they will know how to ask questions to get to the Truth of exactly what they are meaning. I"m praying that at least we end up with a Congress that will use our monies efficiently but compassionately and make sure those govt contractors that are getting by with blatant theft are allowed to be internally audited and investigated and prosecuted when warranted. Past Congresses took away those rights and then 'everything' was placed in their 'hands' including the first 2 levels of appeals in many agencies like Medicare' with no answers to the appealed issues and often appeals 'disappearing.' We actually may get some people elected that haven't forgot how to read. President Obama stirred in our hearts a desire for 'change.' Defaulting on your mortgage contract and lying about your education are serious issues.
There are millions of hard working Americans who have NOT defaulted on their mortgage. They feel they have a moral obligation to honor their contracts even though their homes are worth less now.
There are millions of Americans who have not lied about their educational achievements. They feel that they have what they have and if they want to claim a degree they don't have they go out and earn it.
I don't think Conservatives should turn a blind eye just because someone with a questionable background is running for office. Just the opposite.
But then again...maybe being a Conservative means you can be dishonest and still get away with it

Christine O’Donnell or anyone else in the GOP or the T.E.A. Movements can squash a Marxist/Socialist, Democrat, Progressive! Nevada’s (14% unemployment) Harry Reid’s endorsement for his PET and favorite candidate to become the Delaware Senator will be detrimental for Coons and great for our side after his stunning defeat by Sharon Angle!
ALL of you experts who just want to keep a professional, political, parasite with an (R) in office is over! You do not know the power of “We the People…” American patriots round the country will rally behind O’Donnell and victory will prevail for our candidates.
We will lose some of the races, but the GOP will become the majority in both Houses. You can bet on it!
