Public Policy Polling says it’s
too close to call in the Delaware Republican Senate primary,
with Christine O’Donnell leading Mike Castle 47-44. Also:
General election Senate numbers we’ll release later this week
make it clear the biggest beneficiary of this primary becoming so
unexpectedly hotly contested is Chris Coons. He would start out
with a large advantage over O’Donnell in a general election match
up, and is polling closer to Castle than he was when PPP polled
Delaware last month.
Last week Rasmussen released
a poll showing Castle beating Coons 48-37, but Coons beating
O’Donnell 47-36. Castle may be relatively liberal, but the
O’Donnell campaign is looking a whole lot like the political
equivalent of the Judean People’s Front Crack Suicide Squad.
yes lets scream about how she can't win as loud as possible. so
then when it happens you can all say "i told you so" maybe if we
all supported the real conservative she'd have enough support.
idiocy.
The reason the country elected Obama is because of George Bush
and his Republican colleagues lost their way. They were spending
like drunken sailors and running up huge deficits. They were soft
on illegal immigration and were not acting like true fiscal
conservatives. Throw in Iraq and you have a disaster. I would
rather sink with Conservative Christine O'Donnell than swim with a
RINO Castle. I want a principled conservative Republican and not
one that puts his finger up to see which way the wind is blowing
and goes with the flow. Just giving you my humble
opinion.........
She was down against Castle too, just a few weeks ago, so why
should anybody be worried about where she "might" be in November? I
think the best thing about her beating Castle this Tuesday
(finger's crossed), is that it's going to teach the GOP to listen
to us, or go down in flames without us.
And why wouldn't Castle poll well against Coons? He's already
got good name recognition in Delaware, O'Donnell is still making
her name there, which after Tuesday, just might be the Republican
Nominee for the United States Senate from the Great State of
Delaware (AKA: the Giant Slayer).
People might take notice then, huh? Then we can worry about
November, after Tuesday.
The same thing was said about Nevada. I think the "mainstream"
GOP boys (AM SPEC included) need to get out of the way or be swept
aside like the rest of the trash in D.C.

previous electoral wins and thinks people who challenge her are on

This woman is a flake and a half...hope Castle wins!
Yes, just what we need in DC--another gutless RINO who supports
abortion and wants to take away our gun rights. The American people
are stupid; if we lose our liberty it's our own damn fault.
Anyone who would support a joke like O'Donnell should be tossed
out of the GOP. This is rank sabotage, destroying a chance at
taking over the senate.
Justice Scalia is in his mid 70's. He is the conservative anchor
of the court and if something happens to him without us in the
majority a liberal will be taking his place. That is the
consequence of sinking with O'Donnell rather then getting 60-70% of
votes with us with Castle. Reagan would choose Castle because
Reagan understand how to govern. Choosing O'Donnell is choosing a
liberal for Scalia's seat.
The entire Cherokee Nation bears down on the Lone Ranger and his
sidekick,
Tonto. The masked one turns to Tonto and says, “Anyone who would
support a joke like O'Donnell should be tossed out of the GOP.”
You use faulty logic in your assumption. You're assuming that
Castle would vote against a liberal appointee. Using your logic it
would also be safe to assume that Castle's vote would be delivered
by the tooth fairy while escorted by the Easter bunny.
For God's sake MAX !! Where the heck is your logic???....your
ridiculous...Last time I saw ANTOINE SCALIA on T.V. He darn well
looked ALIVE & WELL. Believe me I know....Italians eat well....
and live very long healthy lives!!!! Max...What about CASTLE
?......He looks kinda PALE.... You're DOPEY..MAX!!!
O'Donnell already had her chance to run for this seat. She lost
by 35%. She is an embarrassment who has zero chance at winning.
The same year she lose in a landslide, Castle won in a
landslide. Castle is like Scott Brown and Delaware is even more
liberal then Massachusetts. Either we nominate Brown-like
candidates in these states or we remain in the minority forever,
letting the Democrats back the courts liberals.
Without Caste in that seat, we can't win the senate. Without the
senate, we can't stop the Dems from replacing Scalia with a left
winger.
BS, we can win the Senate without Castle--stop lying.
What's embarrassing is you whoring yourself for a worthless RINO.
You're bought and paid for by the GOP establishment. Shame on
you.
Castle voted against the stimulus. We hear how this is a great
pick just like how Angle was a great pick. Yeah being down and
coming back with conservatives is just the same as coming back with
independents who can't stand o' donnell. It is far more important
to win independents because if they vote against you it is a two
vote swing and o' donnell and palin supporters will NEVER
understand that. Take a lock seat and throw it away. To get 60
votes you can't have 60 Christine O' Donnell's. The important part
is to get 60 votes. Deleware isn't Alaska. O' Donnell has 22
percent favorable rating among moderates in the republican party.
If this was an open primary with independents she would be getting
crushed. But according to her supporters getting independent votes
is bad. This will guarantee Reid remains leader and dems keep the
judiciary committee lead as dems and leahy keep the liberal judges
coming. There is a huge difference between doing good with your
people and doing good with the whole electorate. This is another
train wreck like sharron angle. She is the only person in the whole
state who could have allowed Harry Reid to win with all the damage
he has done. Another lock seat thrown away for what. To burn the
house down. What is the reward. So we get another liberal
democrat.
Patriot if you care about gun rights you will care about castle
voting for mcconnell and getting a republican majority on the
judiciary committee to block anti second amendment judges. Castle
won't even be on the judiciary committee but his vote for mcconnell
will set the makeup of the committee.
Can't you Castle cronies come up with a different name than
"flake?" Where do you guys get your talking-points from?
Castle is a stinking liberal snake.
He is pro-abortion, anti-second amendment, and will vote for
Cap-n-Tax. He is 71. He has been on the public dole for over 40
years, as a professional politician. He must be retired.
Nick, why do you say Castle is a professional politician like
its a bad thing? He's been winning statewide elections for the last
40 years. How is electing liberal Democrats like Coons suppose to
advance conservatism?
The more salient question is --how is electing liberal RINOs
like Castle supposed to advance Conservatism? It doesn't and we're
sick of it.
Get used to it, squishes; we've tried it your way for too many
years and our country is more screwed up than ever. I find it
disgusting that you never address that sad reality or take
responsibility for your part of the mess. As long as you get a
paycheck, nothing else matters; who gives a crap if the country's
going up in flames, right?
Do you Christine supporters understand that by electing Coons,
you make it almost impossible to repeal Obamacare? Do you realize
how hard it is to get to 60 votes in the Senate? The GOP has an
outside chance of outright winning the Senate. Don't forfeit an
easy Senate victory and ensure the Democrats keep the Senate.
Another terrific argument Intel. So you believe that if there
are enough Republican senators that Obamcare can be repealed? I
guess you were out the day your social studies class talked about
presidential veto power.
Tell us all genius how we repeal Obamacare with Obama as
president. The goal in the next Congress is to simply force votes
and vetoes, put the dems and Obama on the defensive. But repeal in
the next Congress is an impossibility.
As the saying goes, Rome wasn't built in a day and neither is a
serious convervative majority in the Senate. 2012 is the real
opportunity, with so many democrat seats up for grabs. Coupled with
the election of a conservative president, we will see Obamacare
repealed and replaced with free market solutions. You simply cannot
think in the short term. Castle brings some immediate
gratification, but he will be a long term thorn in our sides.
Since when does it take 60 votes to control the Senate? The Dems
have that now and they don't control it or else we would have even
more of Obama's agenda in place. It takes 51 solid Conservatives to
control the Senate. They said Reagan couldn't win and he only took
49 states his second time around, after leading the country as a
solid conservative for 4 years. Conservatism can win and will
win.
It is unfortunate to see many who wear the uniform of
'conservative' and even the badge of 'social conservative' subject
us to the tired 'lesser of two evils' argument.
It is precisely this mentality that has led to an out of touch
political class (Republican hierarchs included.) The GOP failed to
control spending and ensure longevity for economic success.
Career politicians like Mike Castle are directly responsible for
shuttering domestic commerce and encouraging a rotten culture of
death.
This suggestion that Mr. Castle will 'overturn Obamacare' was
used recently in Massachusetts' special election. Gee, how did that
turn out?
You want Cap and Trade, Bank Bailouts, leaving Gens. X and Y
with the entitlement crises, and various middling left-wing
initiatives? Mike Castle is your man.
If we are serious about truly changing the political machine and
fixing the disasters we face, we need real people, not career
politicians, to represent us.
So, we can write endlessly about how someone 'just can't win'
(like the contemporary Party elites said about Ronald Reagan, by
the way), or we can actually stand on principle, apply a little bit
of work, and elect a genuine conservative.
I applaud Senator DeMint and Gov. Palin for drawing their line
in the sand.
Scott Brown's election make it infinitely harder to pass
Obamacare, but they were still able to do it because they had the
numbers. Being in the majority matters. You delusional clowns who
think electing liberal Democrats like Coons will solve anything
will deserve the humiliating beatdown you deserve. If the GOP
finishes one seat short of the majority and are stuck with Majority
Leader Schumer, you will know deep down it was partially your
fault.
They were not able to pass Obamacare in the Senate after Scott
Brown was seated so the House had to 'deem and pass' the Senate
bill that had been voted on prior to the Brown election. The bill
could not go to reconciliaton because it would have to pass the
Senate again where 41 can filibuster and not allow a bill to be
voted on. As a result the final bill is flawed and if one single
portion is found to be unconstitutional the whole bill is toast as
they did not provide a severability clause. This couldn't be fixed
because of Scott Brown's election and it looks like Virginia's
lawsuit may put the dagger into Obamacare and the 'demon pass'
strategy Pelosi used to ram it through the House!
Electing Castle to the Senate is the WORST thing to do. He's a
Porker who used his government position to become a millionaire 8x
over. How do you do that on a government Salary?
The only thing we're seeing is an elite establishment that wants
access to the closet socilaists like Castle - I used to linve in DE
- It's more conservative than Castle.
Tabin - you guys destroy ODonnell to curry favor in Washington
and maintain - 'access' - so you can write - 'informed' - articles.
We the people intend to take care of the 'Access' problem. We are
going to do it over the next 5-10 election cycles - as they say in
the new Star Trek Movie - Buckle-up.
Using poll numbers like this is like driving with the rear view
mirror. It doesn't work. At the beginning of a campaign the
challenger is usually unknown. That's why early polls show the
incumbent leading.
There's a big difference between trying to win in Florida and
trying to win in Delaware. Two completely different electorates.
48% of the electorate are Democrats. In order to win in Delaware,
you have to be able to appeal to moderates and independent which
Castle has a proven track record of doing. Has Christine ever been
able to do that in her electoral career? Do you realize how
devastating losing Biden's seat would be to the Democrats? To
potentially lose Kennedy, Biden, and Obama's Senate seat would be
demoralizing to the other side. Please don't forfeit this election.
You don't win and advance conservatism by losing elections. Numbers
matter.
Conservatives win EVERYWHERE. Like for example in the Democratic
State of Illinois the strongly conservative Republican candidate
for governor has a solid lead in the polls, while RINO Senate
candidate Kirk is struggling and merely tied in the polls.
President Reagan also won everywhere in the country, in every
group. That's proof that conservatism is a winner. If we ran 100
conservatives for the US Senate, we'd end up with 70 Republican
Senators.
No, principles matter. Obviously you have none as one can see
from your posts that your only reason for supporting Castle is that
he is supposedly electable. Your type of thinking has gotten us
into this situation. If we had stayed true to Reagan we wouldn't be
in the shape we are now. How do you look at yourself in the mirror
knowing you sold out your country by being a gutless supporter of a
candidate you really only support because he's "electable".
Whatever happened to standing on principle?
As long as we have elections voters ought to vote against those
whose attitude is Elitest in nature. The rule of thumb: Do yogovern
with the consent of the governed or without their consent ? Do you
support policies the voters oppose or do you oppose them ? That is
the question. There are many examples everyone knows them.
It is very difficult to believe an electorate that is 48%
Democratic will elect a conservative with deep personal baggage
whose poll numbers are radioactive among independents. In fact, I
cannot recall a single time in the history of Delaware where they
elected a conservative Republican. There is no reason besides blind
faith to believe that giving the nomination to O'Donnell is not
forfeiting this election. Conservatism is a winner in most
electorates, but not Delaware.
As long as people like you won't take a stand then Deleware gets
what it deserves. Why not quit quibbling and stand up for a change.
Just because one team looks good on paper doesn't mean they don't
have to play the game.
Ah yes another Tabin waste of bandwidth. Why does Am Spec give
this guy a forum? How's that John Adams project working for you
John? Still think it is a wonderful exercise of American freedom to
offer your services pro bono to terrorists that would love to cut
my toddler's throat in my den just to watch my reaction? Once again
your picture is in the dictionary right under the definition of
clueless pundit.
Three months ago Castle was a slam dunk. You're from the same
group that told us Rubio couldn't win, Crist was just what was
needed, Angle can't win, Paul can't win, Specter was the only
electable R in PA, etc. Castle rates an F from the NRA and will
jump ship whenever the going gets tough. He probably won't try and
repeal the monstrosity that is socialized medicine. His
"conversion" was more RINO political convenience. At least there is
one pundit on here that doesn't have his head up his fourth point
of contact. Hint; it isn't Tabin.
Castle sympathizers harp on the virtue s of having him lend his
meretricious baggage to the "Republican majority." My question is:
"What good has a Republican majority done in the long-term after
abandoning Conservative principles and the Conservatives that put
them in office? Republican is not an especially glowing term in our
minds. I don't need another mere Republican. Best,
Castle scores a horrendous 43% from CFG for 2009. Again, since
his announced Senate bid he has been much more conservative than
previous years. In 07 and 08 he earned a 35% and 26% respectively.
In every year, Castle has had the most liberal voting record of any
member of the 175+ Republican caucus. So in 2008, when Arlen
Specter scored a 44%, Mike Castle scored a 26%! The CFG ratings
give us more of an idea of how much of a statist the member is than
the ACU.
As I follow these posts in the AMSPEC, I observe the pro-Castle
forces belittling the intelligence or maturity of those who support
O'Donnell. I have had an opportunity to review the work of Mike
Castle since the 1970's. I have spoken with him personally, I
worked for him for over 6 years, and I handed out his campaign
literature in 2004 when I worked on the Bush/ Cheney
campaign.
I've been aware of Christine O'Donnell since 2006, when she ran a
3rd party challenge against Dem. Carper and RINO Jan Ting (who has
now switched back to Democrat). I voted for her in 2008, the last
time she ran for this Senate seat,
Based on all of this knowledge, I will be voting for Christine
O'Donnell on 091410, not because I believe she is perfect, but
because I believe I would rather have her represent me. If that
makes me child-like, I'll take it.
By the way, as far as crazy uncles go, it bears mentioning that
this Senate seat was held from 1973 until 2009 by Joe Biden.
Christine O'Donnell could have a Capt. Queeg breakdown on the floor
of the Senate, and it wouldn’t embarrass me as much as Biden did.
The Vice Gaffe Master has confabulated, lied, and placed his foot
in his mouth more times than I care to remember, but more
importantly, has differed with me on almost every issue of
importance. Despite all of that, he was elected 7 times to this
Senate seat, and once to VPOTUS. While I am aware of some Castle
character flaws, his voting record frequently conflicts with my
position on the issues. O’Donnell’s positions are much closer to
mine, which is why, when I am given a choice in the primary, I will
exercise it.
Should O'Donnell win in the primary but not win in the general
election, I will live with the consequences of what Delaware's
voters (though not me) have chosen. What I won't experience is the
feeling of betrayal from having supported a politician who then
voted in a way that damages the country (e.g. Cap & Trade,
anti-Iraq War resolution, etc.).
John Tabin, you wise and all-knowing Ruling Class member, we all
bow down to you!
Let's all surrender. Just give up. No conservative can EVER beat
a Democrat in a "deep blue" state. Libs can win deep red states,
but that's because...well, Democrats are superior beings. Everyone
who's anyone knows THAT.
Besides, surrender to the Ruling Class is for our own good. In
the long run. It's strategery. Invented by really smart
inside-the-beltway Ruling Class people, so we should just shut up
and follow.
No need to stand up and fight for good candidates. After all,
it's BAD POLITICS.
I seem to recall that a fellow named Scott Brown (admittedly no
conservative, but nominally a Republican) was trailing by almost
twice O'Donnell's purported disadvantage less than a month from
election day. No way HE could win. Should have just surrendered to
the Democrats, if we'd known what's good for us. Oh, wait...
For a recap of Castle's votes go to Michelle Malkin's Website
and read her post titled " The DE Senate GOP primary: Castle, Soros
& a health advisory."
Opening: "On August 20, I endorsed Christine O'Donnell for the
Delaware Senate GOP primary race. AsI said on Sean Hannity's TV
show last week in repeating that endorsement, she is certainly far
from perfect (who is?). Bu I think nine terms are enough for
duck-and-hide, cap-and-tax liberal Republican Mike Castle - and it
looks like GOP primary voters in Delaware are coming to the same
conclusion as the primary looms tomorrow. I repeat: Entrenched
incumbency is not an argument for more entrenched incumbency."
"Castles campaign questions O'Donnell's trustworthiness, GOP
primary voters need to question Castle's. He was just one of two
Republicans to vote for the $26 billion Edujobs/BigGovJobs bailout
a few weeks ago. He supported the TARP bailout that benefited many
of his political donors. And he is the cofounder of the George
Soros-tied Republican Main Street Partnership to cave in to enviros
on the ANWR drilling ban. The Republican Main Street partnership
PAC supports ACORN-friendly, Big Labor-baking, tax-and-spend ,
abortion radicals in GOP clothing like Dede Scozzafava."
"This isn't Main Street. This is the road to progressive hell.
We already have one to many shady Soros Republicans in the
Senate-and John McCain doesn't need any more company."
"As I noted a few weeks ago, the stakes are raised - not just
for Delaware, but for the nation - in this race because this is a
special election VP Joe Biden's Senate seat. The next Senator from
Delaware will serve the remaining four years of Biden's term. Which
means he or she will be seated immediately after election and will
be in place to vote in any lame duck Senate session. Cap-and-tax is
on the table for this session. From his record and from his radical
enviro associations, we know what Castle would do in the name of
"Republican Main Street values to screw over not only-Delawareans,
but all taxpayers."
"Nine terms are enough."
Michelle follows with FYI: Michael Castle on Energy & Oil
(his votes for the enviros) and Michael Castel on Environment (his
votes for the enviros).
For those who are truly interested in his record please visit
Michelle's website. Thank you and apologize for the lengthy
post.
Obama received more votes in New Castle Country than the total
number of votes received by both candidates in Kent and Sussex
Counties combined. That is what the electorate of DE is made up of.
An O'Donnell victory against Coons would require complete apathy
and lack of participation by New Castle Country voters.
As for O'Donnell herself, she got caught lying that she won Kent
and Sussex against Biden...then back peddled to say she at least
tied in Sussex...they explained that a tie means they both got 49%
of the vote. Sadly, she must not understand you can expand the
decimal place. Also, one more vote for Biden would mean she lost.
If she can't be honest about something that simple, how can she be
all that moral. Without ever having being elected to a single post,
I guess she already is the typical politician. The real choice for
Delaware is either someone who votes with Obama some of the time or
someone who will vote with Obama all of the time.
As a conservative in Delaware I'm confident that Castle will
lose. There are enough Reagan conservatives voting O'Donnell in the
primary to tip the race her way. However, it appears that the party
leadership remains of the old school, country club ilk. I doubt
they will take such a rebuff from we of the great unwashed as cause
for reflection. More likely they will see the voters as petulent
children needing punishment. To this end it is possible, perhaps
even likely, that upon Ms. O'Donnell's winning the nomination she
will face luke warm support, or even clandestine attack from the
old guard in her own party. For y'all in the conservative press
that may be the Delaware story to break in the next 50+ days.
I am a Fiscal Conservative and a Social Moderate and believe in
practising the Politics of the Possible. I left youthful "tilting
at windmills" years ago. Christine O'Donnell is no more than a
cheat without a clue of how to resolve the serious fiscal issues
facing our beloved country. It is sad to me that so many seem bent
on having no pie at all in the name of religious purity rather than
retain the opportunity to move forward even though the pace be
slow. Mike Castle , I hope runs as an Independent otherwise Chris
Coons has my vote!
The debacle of this president’s administration is both a cause
and a symptom of the decline of American values. Unless Congress
impeaches him, that decline will go on unchecked. An eminent jurist
surveys the damage and assesses the chances for the recovery of our
culture.
The American Christmas, like the songs that celebrate it,
makes room for everybody under the rainbow. Is that why so
many people seem to be hostile to it?

Castle voted against the stimulus. We hear how this is a great pick just like how Angle was a great pick. Yeah being down and coming back with conservatives is just the same as coming back with independents who can't stand o' donnell. It is far more important to win independents because if they vote against you it is a two vote swing and o' donnell and palin supporters will NEVER understand that. Take a lock seat and throw it away. To get 60 votes you can't have 60 Christine O' Donnell's. The important part is to get 60 votes. Deleware isn't Alaska. O' Donnell has 22 percent favorable rating among moderates in the republican party. If this was an open primary with independents she would be getting crushed. But according to her supporters getting independent votes is bad. This will guarantee Reid remains leader and dems keep the judiciary committee lead as dems and leahy keep the liberal judges coming. There is a huge difference between doing good with your people and doing good with the whole electorate. This is another train wreck like sharron angle. She is the only person in the whole state who could have allowed Harry Reid to win with all the damage he has done. Another lock seat thrown away for what. To burn the house down. What is the reward. So we get another liberal democrat.

Patriot if you care about gun rights you will care about castle voting for mcconnell and getting a republican majority on the judiciary committee to block anti second amendment judges. Castle won't even be on the judiciary committee but his vote for mcconnell will set the makeup of the committee.

Can't you Castle cronies come up with a different name than "flake?" Where do you guys get your talking-points from?
Castle is a stinking liberal snake.

Retire Castle. Principle before Party, and Conservative before Electability.
A clear message must be sent to the GOP that we will no longer be ignored. And, that message will be sent this election and the next.
Intel| 9.13.10 @ 3:59AM
Nick, why do you say Castle is a professional politician like its a bad thing? He's been winning statewide elections for the last 40 years. How is electing liberal Democrats like Coons suppose to advance conservatism?
Patriot| 9.13.10 @ 4:25AM
The more salient question is --how is electing liberal RINOs like Castle supposed to advance Conservatism? It doesn't and we're sick of it.

I find it disgusting that you never address that sad reality or take responsibility for your part of the mess. Do you Christine supporters understand that by electing Coons, you make it almost impossible to repeal Obamacare? Do you realize how hard it is to get to 60 votes in the Senate? The GOP has an outside chance of outright winning the Senate. Don't forfeit an easy Senate victory and ensure the Democrats keep the Senate.
Patriot| 9.13.10 @ 4:27AM

Warrior | 9.13.10 @ 10:40AM
Another terrific argument Intel. So you believe that if there are enough Republican senators that Obamcare can be repealed? I guess you were out the day your social studies class talked about presidential veto power.
tonypal| 9.13.10 @ 11:11AM
Tell us all genius how we repeal Obamacare with Obama as president. The goal in the next Congress is to simply force votes and vetoes, put the dems and Obama on the defensive. But repeal in the next Congress is an impossibility.
As the saying goes, Rome wasn't built in a day and neither is a serious convervative majority in the Senate. 2012 is the real opportunity, with so many democrat seats up for grabs. Coupled with the election of a conservative president, we will see Obamacare repealed and replaced with free market solutions. You simply cannot think in the short term. Castle brings some immediate gratification, but he will be a long term thorn in our sides.
George S| 9.13.10 @ 11:15AM
You'll need 67 Senate votes to kill ObamaCare ( veto, remember?).
However, you'll only need 51 to cut off HHS's Sibelius from money and personnel.
Rich Fisher| 9.13.10 @ 11:58AM
Since when does it take 60 votes to control the Senate? The Dems have that now and they don't control it or else we would have even more of Obama's agenda in place. It takes 51 solid Conservatives to control the Senate. They said Reagan couldn't win and he only took 49 states his second time around, after leading the country as a solid conservative for 4 years. Conservatism can win and will win.
Jon Mangin| 9.13.10 @ 6:51AM
It is unfortunate to see many who wear the uniform of 'conservative' and even the badge of 'social conservative' subject us to the tired 'lesser of two evils' argument.
It is precisely this mentality that has led to an out of touch political class (Republican hierarchs included.) The GOP failed to control spending and ensure longevity for economic success.
Career politicians like Mike Castle are directly responsible for shuttering domestic commerce and encouraging a rotten culture of death.
This suggestion that Mr. Castle will 'overturn Obamacare' was used recently in Massachusetts' special election. Gee, how did that turn out?
You want Cap and Trade, Bank Bailouts, leaving Gens. X and Y with the entitlement crises, and various middling left-wing initiatives? Mike Castle is your man.
If we are serious about truly changing the political machine and fixing the disasters we face, we need real people, not career politicians, to represent us.
So, we can write endlessly about how someone 'just can't win' (like the contemporary Party elites said about Ronald Reagan, by the way), or we can actually stand on principle, apply a little bit of work, and elect a genuine conservative.
I applaud Senator DeMint and Gov. Palin for drawing their line in the sand.
I strongly endorse Christine O'Donnell.
Intel| 9.13.10 @ 7:11AM
Scott Brown's election make it infinitely harder to pass Obamacare, but they were still able to do it because they had the numbers. Being in the majority matters. You delusional clowns who think electing liberal Democrats like Coons will solve anything will deserve the humiliating beatdown you deserve. If the GOP finishes one seat short of the majority and are stuck with Majority Leader Schumer, you will know deep down it was partially your fault.
Patriot| 9.13.10 @ 1:30PM
Principles matter, clown; just because you don't have any doesn't mean they don't count.
Over the years GOP RINOs have already administered numerous beatdowns on Conservatives--why do you think we're so ticked off?
The humiliation is all yours, sellout.
Texas Mom 2010| 9.13.10 @ 2:01PM
They were not able to pass Obamacare in the Senate after Scott Brown was seated so the House had to 'deem and pass' the Senate bill that had been voted on prior to the Brown election. The bill could not go to reconciliaton because it would have to pass the Senate again where 41 can filibuster and not allow a bill to be voted on. As a result the final bill is flawed and if one single portion is found to be unconstitutional the whole bill is toast as they did not provide a severability clause. This couldn't be fixed because of Scott Brown's election and it looks like Virginia's lawsuit may put the dagger into Obamacare and the 'demon pass' strategy Pelosi used to ram it through the House!

Siegfried X| 9.13.10 @ 7:46AM
Using poll numbers like this is like driving with the rear view mirror. It doesn't work. At the beginning of a campaign the challenger is usually unknown. That's why early polls show the incumbent leading.
Intel| 9.13.10 @ 7:52AM
There's a big difference between trying to win in Florida and trying to win in Delaware. Two completely different electorates. 48% of the electorate are Democrats. In order to win in Delaware, you have to be able to appeal to moderates and independent which Castle has a proven track record of doing. Has Christine ever been able to do that in her electoral career? Do you realize how devastating losing Biden's seat would be to the Democrats? To potentially lose Kennedy, Biden, and Obama's Senate seat would be demoralizing to the other side. Please don't forfeit this election. You don't win and advance conservatism by losing elections. Numbers matter.
Siegfried X| 9.13.10 @ 8:05AM
Conservatives win EVERYWHERE. Like for example in the Democratic State of Illinois the strongly conservative Republican candidate for governor has a solid lead in the polls, while RINO Senate candidate Kirk is struggling and merely tied in the polls.
President Reagan also won everywhere in the country, in every group. That's proof that conservatism is a winner. If we ran 100 conservatives for the US Senate, we'd end up with 70 Republican Senators.
Rich Fisher| 9.13.10 @ 12:04PM
No, principles matter. Obviously you have none as one can see from your posts that your only reason for supporting Castle is that he is supposedly electable. Your type of thinking has gotten us into this situation. If we had stayed true to Reagan we wouldn't be in the shape we are now. How do you look at yourself in the mirror knowing you sold out your country by being a gutless supporter of a candidate you really only support because he's "electable". Whatever happened to standing on principle?

As long as we have elections voters ought to vote against those whose attitude is Elitest in nature. The rule of thumb: Do yogovern with the consent of the governed or without their consent ? Do you support policies the voters oppose or do you oppose them ? That is the question. There are many examples everyone knows them.
Intel | 9.13.10 @ 8:24AM
It is very difficult to believe an electorate that is 48% Democratic will elect a conservative with deep personal baggage whose poll numbers are radioactive among independents. In fact, I cannot recall a single time in the history of Delaware where they elected a conservative Republican. There is no reason besides blind faith to believe that giving the nomination to O'Donnell is not forfeiting this election. Conservatism is a winner in most electorates, but not Delaware.

Three months ago Castle was a slam dunk. You're from the same group that told us Rubio couldn't win, Crist was just what was needed, Angle can't win, Paul can't win, Specter was the only electable R in PA, etc. Castle rates an F from the NRA and will jump ship whenever the going gets tough. He probably won't try and repeal the monstrosity that is socialized medicine. His "conversion" was more RINO political convenience. At least there is one pundit on here that doesn't have his head up his fourth point of contact. Hint; it isn't Tabin.

The Club for Growth Rates Castle
Castle scores a horrendous 43% from CFG for 2009. Again, since his announced Senate bid he has been much more conservative than previous years. In 07 and 08 he earned a 35% and 26% respectively. In every year, Castle has had the most liberal voting record of any member of the 175+ Republican caucus. So in 2008, when Arlen Specter scored a 44%, Mike Castle scored a 26%! The CFG ratings give us more of an idea of how much of a statist the member is than the ACU.
albert constantine, jr.| 9.13.10 @ 12:27PM
As I follow these posts in the AMSPEC, I observe the pro-Castle forces belittling the intelligence or maturity of those who support O'Donnell. I have had an opportunity to review the work of Mike Castle since the 1970's. I have spoken with him personally, I worked for him for over 6 years, and I handed out his campaign literature in 2004 when I worked on the Bush/ Cheney campaign.
I've been aware of Christine O'Donnell since 2006, when she ran a 3rd party challenge against Dem. Carper and RINO Jan Ting (who has now switched back to Democrat). I voted for her in 2008, the last time she ran for this Senate seat,
Based on all of this knowledge, I will be voting for Christine O'Donnell on 091410, not because I believe she is perfect, but because I believe I would rather have her represent me. If that makes me child-like, I'll take it.
By the way, as far as crazy uncles go, it bears mentioning that this Senate seat was held from 1973 until 2009 by Joe Biden. Christine O'Donnell could have a Capt. Queeg breakdown on the floor of the Senate, and it wouldn’t embarrass me as much as Biden did. The Vice Gaffe Master has confabulated, lied, and placed his foot in his mouth more times than I care to remember, but more importantly, has differed with me on almost every issue of importance. Despite all of that, he was elected 7 times to this Senate seat, and once to VPOTUS. While I am aware of some Castle character flaws, his voting record frequently conflicts with my position on the issues. O’Donnell’s positions are much closer to mine, which is why, when I am given a choice in the primary, I will exercise it.
Should O'Donnell win in the primary but not win in the general election, I will live with the consequences of what Delaware's voters (though not me) have chosen. What I won't experience is the feeling of betrayal from having supported a politician who then voted in a way that damages the country (e.g. Cap & Trade, anti-Iraq War resolution, etc.).

John Tabin, you wise and all-knowing Ruling Class member, we all bow down to you!
Let's all surrender. Just give up. No conservative can EVER beat a Democrat in a "deep blue" state. Libs can win deep red states, but that's because...well, Democrats are superior beings. Everyone who's anyone knows THAT.
Besides, surrender to the Ruling Class is for our own good. In the long run. It's strategery. Invented by really smart inside-the-beltway Ruling Class people, so we should just shut up and follow.
No need to stand up and fight for good candidates. After all, it's BAD POLITICS.
I seem to recall that a fellow named Scott Brown (admittedly no conservative, but nominally a Republican) was trailing by almost twice O'Donnell's purported disadvantage less than a month from election day. No way HE could win. Should have just surrendered to the Democrats, if we'd known what's good for us. Oh, wait...

For a recap of Castle's votes go to Michelle Malkin's Website and read her post titled " The DE Senate GOP primary: Castle, Soros & a health advisory."
Opening: "On August 20, I endorsed Christine O'Donnell for the Delaware Senate GOP primary race. AsI said on Sean Hannity's TV show last week in repeating that endorsement, she is certainly far from perfect (who is?). Bu I think nine terms are enough for duck-and-hide, cap-and-tax liberal Republican Mike Castle - and it looks like GOP primary voters in Delaware are coming to the same conclusion as the primary looms tomorrow. I repeat: Entrenched incumbency is not an argument for more entrenched incumbency."
"Castles campaign questions O'Donnell's trustworthiness, GOP primary voters need to question Castle's. He was just one of two Republicans to vote for the $26 billion Edujobs/BigGovJobs bailout a few weeks ago. He supported the TARP bailout that benefited many of his political donors. And he is the cofounder of the George Soros-tied Republican Main Street Partnership to cave in to enviros on the ANWR drilling ban. The Republican Main Street partnership PAC supports ACORN-friendly, Big Labor-baking, tax-and-spend , abortion radicals in GOP clothing like Dede Scozzafava."
"This isn't Main Street. This is the road to progressive hell. We already have one to many shady Soros Republicans in the Senate-and John McCain doesn't need any more company."
"As I noted a few weeks ago, the stakes are raised - not just for Delaware, but for the nation - in this race because this is a special election VP Joe Biden's Senate seat. The next Senator from Delaware will serve the remaining four years of Biden's term. Which means he or she will be seated immediately after election and will be in place to vote in any lame duck Senate session. Cap-and-tax is on the table for this session. From his record and from his radical enviro associations, we know what Castle would do in the name of "Republican Main Street values to screw over not only-Delawareans, but all taxpayers."
"Nine terms are enough."
Michelle follows with FYI: Michael Castle on Energy & Oil (his votes for the enviros) and Michael Castel on Environment (his votes for the enviros).
For those who are truly interested in his record please visit Michelle's website. Thank you and apologize for the lengthy post.

A few things to note:
Obama received more votes in New Castle Country than the total number of votes received by both candidates in Kent and Sussex Counties combined. That is what the electorate of DE is made up of. An O'Donnell victory against Coons would require complete apathy and lack of participation by New Castle Country voters.
As for O'Donnell herself, she got caught lying that she won Kent and Sussex against Biden...then back peddled to say she at least tied in Sussex...they explained that a tie means they both got 49% of the vote. Sadly, she must not understand you can expand the decimal place. Also, one more vote for Biden would mean she lost. If she can't be honest about something that simple, how can she be all that moral. Without ever having being elected to a single post, I guess she already is the typical politician. The real choice for Delaware is either someone who votes with Obama some of the time or someone who will vote with Obama all of the time.

Rugger| 9.14.10 @ 11:17AM
As a conservative in Delaware I'm confident that Castle will lose. There are enough Reagan conservatives voting O'Donnell in the primary to tip the race her way. However, it appears that the party leadership remains of the old school, country club ilk. I doubt they will take such a rebuff from we of the great unwashed as cause for reflection. More likely they will see the voters as petulent children needing punishment. To this end it is possible, perhaps even likely, that upon Ms. O'Donnell's winning the nomination she will face luke warm support, or even clandestine attack from the old guard in her own party. For y'all in the conservative press that may be the Delaware story to break in the next 50+ days.

I am a Fiscal Conservative and a Social Moderate and believe in practising the Politics of the Possible. I left youthful "tilting at windmills" years ago. Christine O'Donnell is no more than a cheat without a clue of how to resolve the serious fiscal issues facing our beloved country. It is sad to me that so many seem bent on having no pie at all in the name of religious purity rather than retain the opportunity to move forward even though the pace be slow. Mike Castle , I hope runs as an Independent otherwise Chris Coons has my vote!
