See here. Er,
wait. I think the Team Castle/Delaware Republican Party line
is ”nothing to see here”.
This is what the Republican primary voters are thinking about
electing. He rules out repealing Obamacare. Stands by his
cap-and-trade vote. Says his opponent is delusional for saying his
team is…doing what you can watch. He is, the more one
looks, the ultimate in a disheartening public servant.
I suppose that is to say, in short, that he is the embodiment of
the establishment pol.
But you see (the argument goes), he’s “electable”. To what
end?
Further, maybe that’s what needs to change.
Curly Smith| 9.7.10 @ 1:54PM
Yeah, it's a puzzler...
My Congressman is a Democrat who voted the right way on the major country-destroying legislation yet I'm supposed to vote him out of office to punish his party for their agenda.
But, it's verboten to suggest voting Republicans out of office to either remove a RINO or to punish the party for adopting a RINO agenda. And, seemingly, we can't figure out why the GOP continues to drift leftward when (a) there's no downside to drifting leftward (because the Dems are worse!!!) and (b) center-left voters might abandon the party if it moved back to center-right (and the GOP would lose its majority!!!).
It's a pretty good message for the GOP: hold the Democratic Party both collectively and personally accountable but never hold the GOP or its members accountable.
kelly| 9.7.10 @ 2:34PM
Mr. Smith...I hope you're not trying to speak for ALL republicans when you say that it's verboten to vote one out of office if they're a RINO. My vote is going to the CONSERVATIVE candidate, not the REPUBLICAN.
Warrior | 9.7.10 @ 3:14PM
It's the same message the democrats have been throwing around for many, many years now. Before Scott Brown, they did not need a single republican to assist in getting anything through the senate, yet they were labeled the party of "no." Republicans could not stop anything, yet the president, speaker and senate majority leader keep telling us how the republicans are stopping everything. You also strategically leave off the name of your congressman, which would allow us to easily find out what their voting record was on all these issues. You sound like a troll or the flip side is you're searching for Moe and Larry.
Siegfried X| 9.7.10 @ 2:02PM
And even if we beat the RINO in a primary, they just run third party. In Alaska, Murkowski is STILL trying to run as a Libertarian, even though they said "no"! This was just reported. She pretended to concede the race, but is still trying to run Libertarian
russ hurley| 9.7.10 @ 6:59PM
Rinos are members of the "ruling class" first. They are ego-maniacs first and foremost.
Kevin Smith| 9.7.10 @ 10:55PM
I say we should term this dishonorable tactic"pulling a Lieberman".
Siegfried X| 9.7.10 @ 2:05PM
The RINO running for the open Senate seat in my state has the same record of voting for cap & trade and not wanting to repeal ObamaCare. We were cheated out of a real primary because he threw a tantrum and refused to run if any experienced politician ran against him in the primary. The public negotiations went on for six days until the party caved, and he ran unopposed (except for self-funded, inexperienced candidates).
Kenneth E. MacAlister Jr.| 9.7.10 @ 2:31PM
I hear you Siegfried. The Stupid Party will never learn. If Arlen Specter hadn't officially become a Democrat on his own accord, the spineless, cajoneless GOP "leadership" would be bending over backwards to get Specter re-elected in Pennsylvania instead of the conservative candidate. The big problem is the GOP have thrown up their hands & given up on trying to win in blue states. They won't even try. The only reason they are supporting Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania is because Arlen Specter is no longer there for them to support. The Democrats, as detestable as they are, try to win in EVERY state be it blue or red. They don't quit period! They also don't compromise on their warped principles to win! The spineless, cajoneless GOP "leadership" could learn something from that. But no! Instead of growing a set & adopting the Democrats never say die attitude toward elections they move left & try to win over Democrats & independents with spineless, left-leaning RINOs like Specter, Castle, Snowe, Collins, etc. What the GOP will never, ever understand is the fact that left-leaning Democrat & independent voters will ALWAYS choose the leftist Democrat candidate over the Republican RINO in blue states. Scott Brown in Massachusetts was a fluke. If Martha Coakley wasn't such a poor candidate the left-leaning voters in Mass. would have voted for her in a heartbeat over Scott The RINO Brown. Bet on it. Until the GOP replace their spineless, cajoneless "leadership" nothing will change. Take care Siegfried & GOD bless!
Mike L| 9.7.10 @ 3:16PM
Kenneth, Let the Dems and the independents who feel that libs go and vote for the Dems and RINO's. Good riddance. Let the Conservatives vote for the CONSERVATIVES. If the conservatives come out in the expected numbers and vote correctly we will get enough good men and women in office to fix some of this "change". Seems simple to me and trying to "big tent" the independents who are libs is just wrong.
Chris B| 9.7.10 @ 2:25PM
I'd prefer a senator who agreed with me 51 % of the time, and gave me a majority to one that would vote against me 51 % and give the other guys control. It depends on the state. In a place like Delaware, Castle is arguably the best one can expect. Much like Collins and Snowe in Maine ( as repugnant as that is). Barring some major political cultural change, that's the way it is. But in places where we CAN do better. Like Pennsylvania, Florida and Alaska we should. Part of what makes Lindsay Graham's existance so galling, is unlike say, Maine or Delaware, a real conservative can, and should hold that seat. But, hey, if you want to give Reid,Durbin and Barry O a rubber stamp Senate while waiting for Delaware to morph into Alabama, be my guest.
Nick| 9.7.10 @ 3:37PM
Chris B,
The problem is not just who controls which house of congress. Incumbency and entrenched power are just as big a problem as liberal control is.
Castle has been on the public dole most of his adult life. He is 71 years old. He is a stinking liberal snake. He needs to be retired.
This is why McLame shouldn't be re-elected. He's been in D.C. way too long. The people of Arizona had their chance and blew it. Hayworth had his problems, sure. But, he would have had no entrenched power. And, the Tea Party would've held his feet to the fire.
It is time to get rid of all Senators and Representatives who have held their seat for more than 20 years. In 2012, we can focus on those who have been there for more than 12 years.
It is time We the People implement our own version of term-limits.
Albert Constantine, Jr.| 9.7.10 @ 2:28PM
I have always believed that the purpose of a primary is for members of a political party to vote for the candidate that most closely represents their stand on issues they hold important compared to the other candidates on the ballot. With that in mind, when I cast my primary vote on 091410, despite some concerns about her character, I will cast my vote for Christine O'Donnell. If the majority of registered Republican voters going to the polls in Delaware that day do the same, then Ms. O'Donnell will win. If not, then most likely Castle (who has angered me with his votes, and his RINO machine who has failed to help other GOP DE candidates in the past) will win. Come November, barring bizarre or extreme circumstances, I will vote the winner of the Republican primary, just as I voted for McCain in 2008. If it is Castle, I will hold my nose while doing it, but he will never get my vote just because it is thought he can "win".
Kenneth E. MacAlister Jr.| 9.7.10 @ 2:56PM
Mr. Horner, thank you for pointing out the stupid thinking of The Stupid Party's "leadership". Compromise or bi-partisanship in American politics always results in the same thing. Republicans shut up & go along with the Democrats whether they are the majority or minority party. Until this insane notion of vote for the candidate with the "R" beside his/her name regardless of where they stand on the major issues of the day (Obamacare, Cap & Trade, Taxes, etc.) changes, winning a Congressional majority of Republicans will make no difference. The majority will be a weak, uneffective majority. The RINOs will sell the Party down the river EVERY time in the name of "bi-partisanship" & "getting a bill passed" regardless of whether the bill is good legislation or not. They're not called the Stupid Party for nothing. They've earned the title.
Mike L.| 9.7.10 @ 3:29PM
Ken, I think most of us here are smart enough to recognize RINO's. I know we are all smart enough to recognize Dem's. I am pretty sure most of us are also smart enough to recognize Dem's who come to places like this and spout off about how stupid the "R's" are. It is so simple, to me. Vote for the Conservative in any race. Anyone else, vote them out. What am I missing?
O'Donnell is a nut| 9.7.10 @ 4:05PM
So let me get this straight. You are arguing that moderate Republicans in liberal states should be primaried by more conservative Republicans that have no chance of winning, at all, in the general? Sure seems that way to me.
Yeah, that makes sense. Get back me in a few thousand years when the permanent minority party your purge has created is able to stop any of the Dems' far-left agenda items from passing.
Repeat after me: DELAWARE IS A LIBERAL STATE. THE MAJORITY OF VOTERS IN THAT STATE ARE NOT CONSERVATIVES.
Some of the people here need to get it through their thick heads that not every voter and every state is as conservative as they are.

Robin Schneider | 9.7.10 @ 3:11PM
I am a registered Republican, and I can assure you I am NOT stupid. My vote depends on the record of the candidates running, not the letter that follows their name. And as far as that happening - it happens with both the main parties, and several of the independent parties. So, if you want to label someone as stupid - which always seems to be the rant with some people - then how about labeling the truly stupid people as stupid! Seems to me that by labeling the people with the R "following their name", you are committing the same nonsense you are bitching about.
I'm just sayin'...
megapotamus| 9.7.10 @ 3:21PM
If we send a herd of RINOs after all the sturm und drang the result will be the same as the Bush years; a modest throttling of the collectivist devolution. Kaine the other day said that he was heartened by, among other things, a few Republicans describing SS as a Ponzi scheme. Oh, what a chortle! Even Chris Wallace however did not have the stones or acumen to ask, well is it? Of course, it is. And no matter what party or color dominates in high offices SS and Medicare/caid and government pensions and student loans and federal mortgage debt and assumed liabilities from GM/Chrysler all will have to be reconciled some way at far less than par. Every day this is delayed it gets worse. Sending in an army of Bob Doles to more efficiently finance these catastrophes would do nothing good for the country and plenty bad for Republicans, if they truly care. It seems that many of these alleged conservatives have an irrational fear that their ideology should pre-empt. They seem to fear that Obamacare, Obamanomics and whatever else you can identify have some chance of "success". Don't your Hayekian nostrums put you at ease? They should as a more perfect example of gub sponsored economic destruction could hardly be concocted out of thin air than the bleak horizons we see all around us. In related news, we can be certain that McCain's handling of many issues would have been barely preferable.
O'Donnell is a nut| 9.7.10 @ 4:01PM
O'Donnell supporters accusing someone else's campaign of sleaze? That's like a Chris Farley fan calling someone else a fat drug-addict. The "gay affair" rumor that everyone who is not more gullible than a jellyfish knows was started by the O'Donnell campaign. The ridiculous "Castle is going to switch parties and drop out so Beau Biden can have his seat" rumors also started by O'Donnell; she still doesn't deny it. The accusations that Castle broke her windows and is hiding in her bushes. Her lies about her degree, her use of campaign funds to pay her rent, etc. etc. etc. She is a wacko unworthy of a single vote.
Nick| 9.7.10 @ 5:17PM
Your libelous comments about Miss O'Donnell don't pass the laugh test.
You have no evidence whatsoever that she was behind those rumors.
Are you one of Mike "anti-Second Amendment" Castle's grandchildren, or just a paid political hack?
Tim*| 9.7.10 @ 8:59PM
Regarding those talking about Castle switching Parties :
"If Mike Castle becomes the next United States Senator from Delaware he is going to get sworn in, serve a bit, then become a Democrat, resign, and let Beau Biden get an appointment.
It’s a done deal. The deal has been made already. I’m hearing this not just from Christine O’Donnell people, but party regulars in Delaware, some of whom support Castle. It is insane."

TO..O'DONNELL is a nut: You have to be a Mike Castle partisan HACK. Take back this message.... this is not a Republican wave..It is a , we the people wave with a strong conservative flavor. Delaware like this whole country is American firsters and want RESTORATION and a turn from rampent liberalism to less control and liberty regained. Buy him the book...Liberty vs Tyranny so he GETS IT, when O' DONNELL wins.
selfcenter| 9.7.10 @ 4:19PM
This contest is a lot bigger than Christine vs Castle. It is a battle between the old guard looser Republicans that have inbred with the Democrats vs this new upstart class of Republican that think beyond personal aggrandizement and is focused on the good of the country as a whole, and led to this goal by the roadmap o...f the Constitution. This is an epic struggle to accomplish a new paradigm.
BD57| 9.8.10 @ 1:28PM
I'll get reamed for being "pro-RINO", I know, but here goes .....
There's a lot to be said for considering November when voting in a primary - the old saying about "winning the battle but losing the war" comes to mind.
People opposed to Castle because he's a RINO need to tell us how (a) it moves the Republican Party to the right; and (b) it increases the influence of conservatives on public policy.
Right now, I suspect the "CW" about Delaware is correct - if Castle's the nominee, he wins, but if he isn't, the Democrat wins.
In which case the argument that has to be made is Castle losing the nomination & the seat being held by the Dems does conservatives more good than Castle winning the nomination & the seat.
While I can envision that being true, I'd like to hear someone make the case.
P.S. Just arguing against the CW doesn't do it; while I don't doubt O'Donnell could win, it would be an upset ... I just don't see hoping for an upset as a 'plan'.
