I concur with most of Chris Horner’s take on the odd column by the Atlantic’s Conor Friedersdorf. Actually, I’m still not even sure what Friedersdorf is saying…. other than that “reforming” conservatism must START WITH, but go well beyond, criticizing Mark Levin and Rush Limbaugh, etc.

Well, I too am all for reforming conservatism. And most of the time that means that we start with LISTENING to Levin and Limbaugh. They’re usually right.

‘Nuff said.

Freidersdorf's odd. To be a succesful ex-conservative, it helps to be a conservative first.
Everything I've ever read by this guy has been some silly "not in anger, but in sorrow" whinge on how the Right has lost it's way and must become....Left. If I want that, I can get it in more cogent, coherent and entertaining fashion from Frum and Brooks.
But what in the world is a Conor Friedersdorf?

Booger| 9.3.10 @ 3:01PM

A Conor Friedersdorf is a John Stewart wannabe with even less talent than Keith Olbermann who trades off pretending to be a reformed conservative so that he can get published.

CoNor F! (and Sullivan and Frum and Gershon and and...) seems to want to do to movement conservatism what Carroll Quigley had prescribed for Republicans: Deny the public a true ideological choice by moving the Right away from libertarian ideals to the "center." ("Center" being soft tyranny, but that's not great marketing. Better to stick to terms such as "moderate" and "centrist.") The reason is simple: CoNor is not a libertarian conservative. He's rather a liberal squish with a thesaurus.

To feed those moderates' vanity,
They say "Repubs, go restore sanity!"
My brain's full of mush?
Then to Limbaugh I Rush,
And to Mark and to Beck and to Hannity!

Ran| 9.3.10 @ 1:42PM

Brilliant! Thanks for the larfs, MH!

A young Friedersdorf con named Conor,
Did the conservative movement dishonor,
Said Spectator's Quin,
"Why attack Mark Levin?
When America's enemies are upon 'er?"

Quin| 9.3.10 @ 3:47PM

Just a note for the record that I am really getting a chuckle out of Mad Hatters limericks. Great stuff!

Alan Brooks| 9.3.10 @ 2:25PM

"Then to Limbaugh I Rush,
And to Mark and to Beck and to Hannity"

Rush is the only one I like, the three hours whiz by, fast.

Who the hell is Conor whathisname? I like Rush, and Beck, and Sean, etc.

Being a Conservative is very simple: 1) Protect life. 2) Keep taxes and government small, and leave people alone as much as possible, consistent with (1). 3) Kill scum who want to destroy America.

Rinse and repeat. Not hard.

Works for me!

Want Fries With That Friedersdorf :
"A poorly-trained NYU journalist, not long out of grad school and an incredibly weak writer, suddenly Friedersdorf is an expert on International law. But that’s not all. He’s also an expert on Honor Killings and all things Islamic. While attacking Mark Steyn, we get this from Friedersdorf. Yes, conservatives are the “media elite” in Conor’s dimly lit reading room and even more dim bulb of a mind. And if one doesn’t agree with him, he joins with the Left, feeding into the nonsense about alleged “epistemic closure,” because conservatives don’t embrace his progressive, Leftist view. Oh, wait, he’s The Atlantic’s latest false-flag conservative useful idiot. I plum forgot. Why don’t conservatives love Conor Friedersdorf? "

On Limbaugh - erstwhile, we (third person singular) thought of as being an flawless CONSERVATIVE:

Listened to him for many years.

Now, personally, boycott his show.

Simple reason - based on a fundamental Christian lesson:

Along the 'connotative' lines as prelude to the old Ben Casey TV series:

Dr. Zorbas' voice - man, woman, birth, death, infinity!

Limbaugh has uttered - perhaps not so any longer but who's to know - that he's got talent on loan from GOD.

The Bible - both old and new testaments - state unequivocally the man with man sexual practice as ABOMINATION.

Comes now Limbaugh and he caters to a queer songbird performing at his wedding - promotionalism!

To Limbaugh, I say, that is an incongruence I personally will not join in.

Okie dokie, to each his own - and ones' choice to turn the conservative dial elsewhere.

Hate the sin, love the sinner, Yosemti.

I used to read your posts. Now I'll turn the dial past you.

SoCon| 9.4.10 @ 8:49PM

I like both of you, and I always enjoy your posts! To each his own, ds80; Yosemeti has the right to his own views, too.
