I'd be happy to be proven wrong on either or both points, but the Delaware Republican primary seems to me to be a contest between a candidate who can't win in November and a candidate so liberal his victory would be meaningless.

Who do you want chairing the Senate Judiciary Commitee? Pat Leahy or Jeff Sessions? Who do you want running the Senate Environment Commitee? Jim Inhofe, or Barbara Boxer? That seems pretty clear to me. Would I prefer Mike Castle to be Tom Coburn or Jim DeMint? Yeah. But they ain't running in Delaware in 2010.

I concur with Chris B., plus: Castle started center-right and just drifted right through the years. That doesn't mean that smart conservatives can't figure out a way to entice him to drift back rightward
