In light of the weekend’s dueling Al Sharpton and Glenn Beck rallies, it may be time to revisit Steve Sailer’s proposal that Martin Luther King Day be moved from King’s birthday to the anniversary of the “I Have A Dream” speech.

How about we "move" it out of the calendar altogether? This man was a radical socialist, a serial adulterer, and hardly a role model for anyone of any race. I'm sick of this deification of pseudo-literate blacks like MLK and Obama. Why does the black Moses deserve his own national holiday and George Washington, the father of our country, get lumped in with Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, and all the rest on "President's Day?" Decline and fall.

I think I love you...

Seriously, though, excellent rant. Can't disagree on any point.

Any sissy name like W. James Antle the 3rd, shows a punk who inherited all that he is, and never worked a day in his life, and the Sheila vamp probably got pregnant and trapped a guy in a bar, and sponges of his and others child support, all in my humble opinion and speculation, of course.
Besides proving that these TeaBaggers put too many mushrooms in thier psilocybin tea, they are pure NAZI bigots and racist.
I pray they start thier so called "revolution", when people come to thier senses, and realize they represent nothing but a cult "Christian" Taliban.

ncatty| 8.30.10 @ 4:29PM

While I cannot debate your very erudite comments on Mr. Antle's name and so forth, I wonder how you can spell "psilocybin" correctly but stumble over "thier"? I suppose even dyslexics get it right sometimes.

Easy| 8.30.10 @ 5:26PM

I before E, except after C.

Queen Elizabeth| 8.30.10 @ 5:44PM

What a slutty nic. Must be the Koch brother's hookah. In my humble opinion of main course.

LiveFreeOrDie| 8.30.10 @ 4:30PM

You're so ridiculous and stupid it's almost funny. Almost, but not quite. What's your infatuation with psilocybin? Is that what you take 30 minutes before posting here? That would explain the hypocrisy and delusional ignorance.

FastJohnny| 8.31.10 @ 10:12AM

While I don't agree with Sheila's post, Lord Almighty is an even bigger idiot. I haven't heard a whiff about 'magic mushrooms' since I was in college, the fact that he is so focused on them leads one to think that he is certainly younger...to the point of immaturity. Possibly a freshman in college that just finished Sociology 101 and now thinks he understands the world. I remember how fashionable it was to be anti-US and anti-conservative when I was in college with no other responsibilities than to myself.

Ahhh, to be young and liberal: no real experience, no responsibilities and thinking with ones heart. Much different than when one finally grows up and undertands that to be somewhat conservative in the real world means that you are thinking with your brain.

Rowdy Boots| 8.31.10 @ 9:01PM

I doubt you pray to anything, pigmouth.

If you had a brain, drugs did it in.

You do not have a "humble opinion"--no one with left wing fascist views is humble, but, like your "Guru", you are arrogant and ignorant all in one small brain!

You are absolutely right. Martin Luther King is about as friendly to the interests of American conservatives as Martin Luther was to the interests of the Roman Catholic Church. Shows you how confused many conservatives are when many site Martin Luther King as a conservative paragon.

WL| 8.30.10 @ 1:00PM

Hmm..a little harsh there huh Sheila? I agree that Sharpton and his ilk are a big problem. However, I think the better conclusion is this: "In light of......Folks like Glenn Beck should keep this up, because the angry left clowns will continue to show themselves for who they are...LEFTIST RACIST RACE-BAITING OPPORTUNIST CRIMINAL THUGS SHAKEDOWN ARTISTS PROFITEERING THEIVES."

I don't know much about MLK...but I do know this..We need to support our African-American Conservative Counterparts to spread the REAL message of hope for their racial community, and get these other leftist liars off of their pedestals of media manipulation and intimidation and mental imprisonment

LiveFreeOrDie| 8.30.10 @ 4:38PM

While I totally agree with your sentiment, I reject the misnomer "African-American." There is no such thing. Race labels should be done away with as they are nothing more than a tool for the left to fit everyone in predefined boxes to be categorized and treated accordingly. There are no hyphenated americans, only Americans.

Bore us to death| 8.30.10 @ 5:54PM

Another boring diatribe by a parrot dittohead fool.
Do you freak's get a daily talking points newsletter, or just rehash the same, tired old crap over.

LiveFreeOrDie| 8.31.10 @ 3:51PM

Another waste of space with nothing to offer except name calling. Excellent argument. I'm definitely going to have to re-think my position now. You sure told me. Kudos, go collect your 35 cents and be gone.

We Need Sowell-Williams Day On November 2nd .

The Tea Party Rebellion Escalates .

Remember In November .

Kenny| 8.30.10 @ 2:20PM

Sheila is correct. MLK does not deserve a national day of recognation. It's a disgrace that he has it.

Superheater| 8.30.10 @ 2:28PM

I wonder how many young people steeped in the hagiography of MLK know anything about other significant Americans of African descent-George Washington Carver, Frederick Douglass..

ncatty| 8.30.10 @ 2:48PM

Pretty soon our calendar will be crowded with the politically correct version of the Medieval Church calendar and its inumerable feast days.

Michael| 8.30.10 @ 2:50PM

Great Idea! How about April 1st?

Al Adab| 8.30.10 @ 3:08PM

Since it is mostly government employees who get these holidays, there should be more of them. I propose about 225 each year. That way, while the salaries stay the same, the bureaucrats are not in their offices thinking up and enforcing new regulatuions.

mbt sport footwear| 8.30.10 @ 9:01PM

Thank you. I like it.

Spicy Joker| 8.31.10 @ 1:45AM

So-called conservatives like Glenn Beck are trying to co-opt Martin Luther King and other liberals (JFK, Truman, etc.). In the process, they are legitimizing liberalism. Conservatives shouldn't celebrate King any more than they should celebrate Ted Kennedy or Jimmy Carter.

AndaO| 8.31.10 @ 9:33AM

I think the I Have a Dream speech is important enough to give the man a day to be remembered. It is a staunchly conservative call that people be judged by their character.
Changing the day to remember from around his birthday in mid-January to the end of August speech day wouldn't really work too well. Mid-January provides a nice school/work break. End of August is too close to Labor Day.

matthew s harrison| 9.1.10 @ 1:29AM

again a lefty calls us fascists-I guess the college kid doesn't read a legit news rag, or ever look at the WH website to see what barry has deemed a law this week, or signed into law last week.....but alas, when monkeyboy starts t earn a real paycheck, and 60% of it goes to barry's programs, maybe he will learn!
As for spicy joker-beck did nothing of the sort to co-opt MLK. While King's niece spoke-the day was about christianity and God-not about king. I was terribly irritated to hear beck "he too had a dream"...but I think he just got caught up in the moment.
Lastly- I was terribly happy to hear sharpton and the rest of the halfwits in the professional race baiters and reparations society cry like schoolgirls all weekend long. Whether meant or not, beck got their goats, but good-and any time I see them cringing and looking like they may grab their chests while in a frothy-mouthed rant, it is a good day!
When is there going to be a Neal Armstrong day? A Buzz Aldrin day, a Sally Ride day? those are real heroes-General Chuck Yeager-there is a hero!

Donna Taylor| 9.2.10 @ 12:38AM

If you are going to 9-12-2010 march on Washington... take your Video cameras and every time you see a left-wing news outlet interviewing someone...go right up and start filming at the beginning and then you do your interview and post on youtube.com. It is the only way it will EVER be viewed.
Several people did this at Restoring Honor Rally 8-29-10, Please DO it for TRUTH!

What do you make of the recently disclosed story about the highly-regarded civil rights photographer, who was with Dr. King on the day that he was shot, and who was an informant providing information to the FBI regarding Dr. King and other civil rights activists?
