Ron Paul has issued a strong statement condemning the critics of the New York City mosque project. Pat Buchanan has written two columns taking the opposite point of view.
This is not a question of “Can they build a mosque near Ground Zero?”
It is an question of “Should they build a mosque in the shadow of the twin towers, where 3,000 Americans were suffocated, crushed or burned to death by Islamic fanatics whose Muslim faith was integral to their mission of mass murder and to their identify?”
Unless one is without kidney, spleen, heart or common sense, the answer would be “No!”

If it became known that 9/11 resulted in part from a desire to retaliate against what many Muslims saw as American aggression and occupation, the need to demonize Islam would be difficult if not impossible.
“There is no doubt that a small portion of radical, angry Islamists do want to kill us but the question remains, what exactly motivates this hatred?
“If Islam is further discredited by making the building of the mosque the issue, then the false justification for our wars in the Middle East will continue to be acceptable.
“The justification to ban the mosque is no more rational than banning a soccer field in the same place because all the suicide bombers loved to play soccer."

Actually, I read the name wrong, and read it as Rand Paul, my mistake there. I happened to be reading at Townhall and Rand actually doesn't agree with the building of the "mosque."
As for Ron Paul he is a lunatic and his words prove it. I hope he continues to "speak out" so that more and more people see him for what he is. A friend of the terrorists, and his defenders are just as despicable.

Ron Paul is a friend of the terrorists? Please back this up with examples because according to my calculations this is way off base. I doubt that you will prevail in trying to do so. Al-Quaeda attacked the United States of America and Bin Laden explained why: AMERICAN FOREIGN POLICY. Do you, Margie, believe that our foreign policy best serves the interest of the American people? Do you believe that sanctions that lead to the deaths of 500 thousand Iraqi children is acceptable or that no one would notice? Have you heard of Michael Scheuer (Ex CIA-Bin Laden Task Force)? I suggest you go to his website and read up on WHY the United States is a terrorist target. It has absolutely nothing to do with our freedom...and Bin Laden has stated this. It has to do with our government meddling in the affairs of nations. Period.
Ron Paul is America's true Statesman. No one will agree with everyone all of the time; however, his Constitutional stances are right on and he is brilliant in terms of civil liberties, foreign policy and economics.
I am a relenting supporter of Ron Paul. This doesn't necessarily mean that we are of the same kind in terms of personal ideology; however, with regard to personal freedom, states rights, sound money, economic freedom and a non-interventionist foreign policy I stand by his side.
BTW: I met Ron Paul at his office in Washington. I believe that you would have a different opinion of him if you were to be in his presence for just one moment. He is not arrogant--but compassionate. He is soft spoken and affable. He is genuine--not fake. He doesn't pay lip service to his beliefs--but rather follows through with his voting record. As an American--you should be grateful for such a Representative.

It has been said, “Nero fiddled while Rome burned.” Are we not overly preoccupied with this controversy, now being used in various ways by grandstanding politicians? It looks to me like the politicians are “fiddling while the economy burns.”
The debate should have provided the conservative defenders of property rights with a perfect example of how the right to own property also protects the 1st Amendment rights of assembly and religion by supporting the building of the mosque.
Instead, we hear lip service given to the property rights position while demanding that the need to be “sensitive” requires an all-out assault on the building of a mosque, several blocks from “ground zero.”
Just think of what might (not) have happened if the whole issue had been ignored and the national debate stuck with war, peace, and prosperity. There certainly would have been a lot less emotionalism on both sides. The fact that so much attention has been given the mosque debate, raises the question of just why and driven by whom?"

Why doesn't RuPaul support the constitution? Why does he reject federalism? Why does he disregard the 10th amendment? There is no absolute right of property use in the constitution. The community can demand the zoning board veto this mosque, and they can do it for any reason they want, including hating muslims. And there ain't a damn thing RuPaul can do about it from Texas.

Congress should pass a law that prohibits anyone from building a mosque anywhere it could possibly offend someone or might be interpreted as a "victory dance" over prior terrorist attacts. Supreme Court will find a reason not to strike it down (remember eminent domain?) We're not really talking about OUR freedom, just THEIRS.
