The conventional wisdom is that the Republicans have shot themselves in the foot by nominating so many Tea Party-backed candidates who are too extreme to win in November. Dave Weigel rightly calls BS, pointing out that the same thing was said about many Democrats in 2006 and 2008. He could have used some of the Republican class of ‘94 as examples as well. Then as now, the political climate will make the unelectable electable.

In fact, the polling date doesn’t really support the idea that Ken Buck or Rand Paul will lose. Sharron Angle remains at least a toss-up. And in every one of those cases, there were serious problems with the establishment-annointed candidates. The Tea Partiers won precisely because the establishment-backed frontrunners imploded. This is hardly a strong recommendation for the general election. That’s not to say all of the candidates will win or that even those who do will be able to survive in a less favorable election cycle. But the concern about who is making it out of the Republican primaries is mostly overblown.

the rcp numbers on buck has that race as a toss up, too... of the three races you cite, paul is clearly in the best shape.....because, i suspect, that's a red state, while nv and co are purple...

The idea that we even have a toss up against the terribly unpopular Harry Reid seems to suggest that the Tea Party candidate is giving an opening to possibly the worst current Senator.

While the Democrats can be disfunctional, Republicans have shown time and again to be thier own worst enemy.

Thanks, James

I am not sure a lot of posters here "get it" yet.

Win or lose, solid conservatives on the ballot will send the base to the polls.

Some few of us have finally figured out to vote straight R... simply because every welfare queen will vote straight D because they can't read very well.
They are TAUGHT how to vote straight D with their welfare check.

I would love for Angle to win, but if all the other Rs on the ballot get some votes...great.

Angle will lead us to Jim Jones land. Then all the religious freaks can drink their cyanide.
Bible spoke of these busybidy lowlife like Angle, who sponged off her husbands gubment job, while her idleness was the Devil's workshop.

Roy| 8.14.10 @ 11:17PM

Well, somebody's in Jim Jones land, but it ain't the "religious freaks".

W.L. Barton| 8.15.10 @ 2:29PM

Boy roy must be one of THEM.
Wonder if they have cities like the Mormons have on the border of Utah and Arizona, where perverts, who a certain poster rattling on here sounds like, in my humble opinion, can marry their 13 year old niece.
Wonder how these cults, like Angle's Baptist one, and the Mormons, can get by the IRS, and thier 501C rules, especially since the apostate Mormon cult spent 8 million, trying to stop gays from getting married?
Now go get on the floor, and roll your sins out the door!

You know very well Obama will be re-elected-- you just don't want to admit it.

c. j. acworth| 8.13.10 @ 7:12PM

Obama is not on the ballot this November, Brooks. One election at a time.

Obama's Reverse Coattails plays into a Bloodbath Beatdown of The Democrats , In November's Midterm Elections .

The Tea Party Rebellion Escalates .

There are two posts that I disagree with and caution other posters to ignore . Guess which ones they are. Hint: They support the Socialist Left.

Such misfits as Angle and Paul, you ask? If memory serves she is/was a TEACHER [with supposedly a college education] and he is/was a DENTIST [with supposedly a post college/graduate degree]. I'll take those in comparison to a COLUMBIA/HARVARD LAWYER WHOSE WHOLE WORK EXPERIENCE WAS AS A COMMUNITY ORGINIZER [STREET HUSTLER] ANYTIME, ANY DAY!!!!!!!!!!

Long Ben| 8.15.10 @ 9:03PM

Obama blows great chunks .
