The Spectacle Blog

Deal Hudson at Inside Catholic has a timely and thoughtful warning about a new group, organized by liberal activists, called the Catholic Mobilizig Network to End the Death Penalty. He questions whether the group might overstate Pope John Paul II’s slightly contingent anti-death-penalty writings while undermining the more important, non-contingent pro-life doctrine against abortion. Worth a read. At the link above. Good stuff.

Some more worthy reading on the subject of Capital punishment and being pro life. The 2 are not at odds.

Chuck Colson's excellent statement:

They are at odds in the sense that pro-life only means anti-abortion; and pro- choice means pro- abortion.
And anti- death penalty means one is opposed to the death penalty-- unless it is Tim McVeigh, because then it makes everyone feel united and vindicated in strapping the sumbitch to the gurney.
When Matthew Shephard was murdered I asked a radio host why my liberal gay friends were all of a sudden so militantly pro death penalty. A raspy voice came on the air 20 minutes later: "you tell that guy Alan that we gays are no pushovers!"

Hi Margie

AMEN. There is a world of difference between an INNOCENT child and a guilty mass murderer!

At this point, the pro-abortionist contingent will likely say, "It's a 'FETUS', not a real PERSON yet." Fine! Even if we're talking about FETAL PUPPIES, it's still about INNOCENT vs GUILT. The logic used by the pro-abortion/anti-death penalty people CONFUSES me completely!
