In an interview with Daniel Foster at NRO, Sen. Lindsey
Graham (R-S.C.)
basically admits that his sudden interest in reforming
birthright citizenship is really a ploy to win conservative
support for amnesty back home.
FOSTER: Isn’t a bit of this, frankly, strategic? Aren’t you
looking for ways to bring conservatives on board with the more
comprehensive immigration reform that you favor? Is that fair
to say?
GRAHAM: Yeah, I think it’s fair to say that I need to go home
to South Carolina and say: listen, I know we’re all upset that
we have 12-14 million people illegally. I’m going to have to be
practical. We’re not going to deport or jail 12-14 million
people. A practical solution is not awarding this citizenship
on day one, but to allow them to stay here on our terms, learn
our language, pay a fine, hold a job, and apply for citizenship
through the legal process by getting in the back of the legal
line.
That to me is a practical solution. But, I have to be able to
say, as part of doing that, we looked at all the incentives
that led to the 12-13 million coming, and we changed them. That
we did secure our border, unlike any other time in the past,
that we now have laws that make it possible to verify
employment; we now have a temporary worker program that will
allow people to come here and work on our terms temporarily,
and help our employers with labor when they can’t find American
labor…
This is hardly surprising. Anytime Republican politicians want to
pretend to be doing something on an issue that is of importance
to conservatives but irrelevant to the GOP establishment, they
push no-chance constitutional amendments. How are the amendments
on abortion, gay marriage, flag burning, balanced budgets,
parents rights, victims rights, forced busing, and all the rest
of it coming?

I hope Lindsey isn't greasing the skids for amnesty during the lame duck session. I've listened to people I know, even a hispanic Republican group from Arizona, complain about Arizona's Law and cry about racial profiling while they praise the judge's decision to allow illegal immigrants to come on in. I hear the sob stories about families being separated because of our immigration system, with no mention of the fact that unless they are held at gunpoint, each illegal border crosser came the U.S. by there own free will and took the risks to do it. I also hear complaints that the legal immigration system is broken and that is why illegal immigration is as bad as it is. Well I ask, if we are overrun with illegal immigrants, do they really expect the legal immigration system to work that much faster?
I've heard every argument against the U.S. right to sovereignty, which leads me to believe that the only thing left we can do is build a fence. Nothing virtual, no drones, I'm talking steel, concrete, and barbed wire. If the illegal immigration sympathizers want to compare us to East Germany, go right ahead. East Germany built a wall to keep its citizens in, not to keep non-citizens out. If they want to compare Arizona to Nazi's because they want to check papers and deport illegal immigrants back to Mexico, then tell me, what is Mexico?

Until a legit American Right will be against illegal, and favor a rationale legal immigration policy, we have to consider these bones.
My libertarian leanings suggest to cut the welfare state spigot and state action as needed (as in Arizona) and see what happens--then determine if more aggressive or humane style European style bounties on expatriation measures are necessary. It's all well and good to worry about Arizona, but the US refugee scam, done hand in hand with folks like Catholic Charities, has to be eliminated and this effects non-border states--that is a bigger issue than anchor babies, but more difficult to tackle in the current environs with the Invade the World crowd sitting on the Right.

if there is a dead man walking it is lindsey grahamnesty....can you say 'primary challenge'?
ps lindsey, we don't have to deport them...they will leave when we take away the jobs...

Build the Big Mean old fence from the Pacific to the Gulf of Mexico first and then we'll talk about the rest.

I salute Grahamnesty's economic plan. He's a clear thinking visionary not bound by the constraints of conventional wisdom.
Think of the simulative value of adding 14 million formerly illegal immigrants to the ranks of the current 14.6 million unemployed legal citizens and immigrants! When you factor in the other 25 million illegal immigrants that will "unexpectedly" appear and the 8-10 million unemployed who've given up looking for work and are no longer counted then we'll be an economic dynamo that will "unexpectedly" astound the world!!
I see a Noble Economic Prize for Grahamnesty/Pelosi. The world will be remade in their image. Who else would have the courage, the vision, the insight or the intelligence to recognize the economic simulative value of unemployment checks? Grahamnesty for President (for life)!

I simply do not trust Lindsey Graham on ANY ISSUE. His traitorous caving in politically [sucking up, if you will] by voting for Kagan [along with other issues] warrants his being labeled as the ultimate definition of a RINO. S.C. taxpayer-voters would be wise to vote against/defeat Graham at their earliest convenience [when he's up for re-election]. I can tolerate liberal Democrats [or just delete the liberal], but I simply cannot tolerate a [should be] Republican from a conservative state that crosses over and votes for the imbicilic political legislation/nominations of the liberal Democratic Party!!!!!
BernardL| 8.7.10 @ 10:46AM
We don't have to deport them you moron. Take away employment, health care, welfare, free education, and the anchor baby idiocy. They will go home, stop coming, and our emergency rooms, schools, and prisons will recover from the illegal alien invasion. Deploy Predator drones and Hunter/Killer teams to take out murderous Mexican Cartel soldiers running drugs and terrorist infiltrators into our country - problem solved Grahamnesty. Just like the rest of your illegal alien advocacy enablers, you don't want hard solutions that protect American citizens. You want the surrender of American sovereignty and the sad part is we can't even stop you with our votes. When the American people speak at the ballot box the banana republic judges void our voice. You are a disgrace, Grahamnesty.

The GOP will never recover its Conservative values and image until L. Graham, O. Snowe, and S. Collins are booted from the party. They are all demoncrats in sheep clothing anyway. Weather extremes could be responsible, the brains of the people of Maine are frozen and in S.C. they are fried! Another thought for Repubs. Find someone with GUTS to be your Leader in the Senate. The last four have been apologetic disasters.
Richard Saunders| 8.7.10 @ 3:40PM
The Constitution doesn't need to be amended.
The 14th Amendment has a" Congress has the right to enforce this provision with appropriate legislation" clause.
All Congress has to do is define birthright citizenship as meaning those born in the US, legally.
If it goes to the Supreme Court, so what?
Congress also has the right to strip any illegal of any future rights, such as allowing anchor babies to sponsor their illegal parents.
It's interesting. If you enter the US illegally and get deported, you can't return for 10 years, but if you drop an anchor baby, you are rewarded with citizenship for your crime.
The madness never ends.
HostileLogic| 8.7.10 @ 4:10PM
The 14th Amendment was never intended to bestow citizenship on the children of illegal aliens. Ann Coulter explains this whole issue at http://www.anncoulter.com/.
ardvaark65| 8.7.10 @ 7:26PM
Let Graham go back to SC and talk to the 'real' south carolinians and he will get the real truth, which that sorry ass RINO speaks of. He's a liar and a fraud on top of bing a sorry RINO. Check out his bank records and holdings and ask where he got it!
ardvaark65| 8.7.10 @ 7:29PM
I forgot to add in my last comment. Graham says we cannot deport, how many? Hitles sure deported, depending on who you ask, up to 6 million and that was without the transportation technology we have today. Put parachutes on each of the, put their asses on a c5, hook them up to a static line, fly over Mexico City and shove them out. Make the Mexico Airlift look like the Berlin Airlift.
Kenneth E. MacAlister Jr.| 8.7.10 @ 7:59PM
And the GOP wonders why so many have turned their backs on The Republican Party & left them behind. Until traitorous RINOs like Grahamnesty, Snowe, Collins, etc. are gone & replaced with conservative members who revere GOD, country, & the U.S. Constitution the GOP will continue to hemorrage voters & financial contributors. RINOs like Grahamnesty are worse than leftists. Leftists don't hide their true beliefs & intentions, wrong as they are. RINOs are like Satan in The Garden Of Eden. Satan had to disguise himself to deceive Eve. Satan was, in fact the very first RINO. Think about it folks.
Oldefarte| 8.8.10 @ 11:35AM
I read an article indicating Graham's popularity in SC recently starting to sink/drop, and it's about time that SC taxpayer-voters started to WAKE UP. The next step for them [and us] is for SC to vote him out of office when he next comes up for a vote!!!!!
Margie| 8.9.10 @ 12:44PM
Maybe they will wake up. Look at how they woke up in NJ electing Chris Christie.
Thank you, Obama~ you are serving your real purpose on this Earth unbeknownst to yourself~ to WAKE UP the people.
bluecollarbytes| 8.8.10 @ 12:17PM
Grahamnesty->"I know we're all upset that we have 12-14 million people illegally."
Who's this "we" stuff? If Grahamnesty is 'upset', this is the first I heard of it. I guess he's now just one of the folks..........
PeteMoylan| 8.8.10 @ 6:56PM
At least pass a law ending birthright citizenship so that it will go back to the Supreme Court. Include education for children of illegal immigrants. There is no constitutional right to free education for illegal immigrants in the constitution. That is just a activist Marshall court decision.
Derek Leaberry| 8.9.10 @ 11:53AM
Graham is just being duplicitous. The birthright feint is to help McCain in his primary with Hayworth. Once the November election is over, watch Graham, McCain and Kyl negotiate with President Obama, Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid to push through amnesty just in time for Christmas but before the new Congress is sworn in.
