Jim Webb’s recent Wall Street Journal
op-ed about ending exclusively race-based affirmative action
programs, especially when extended beyond the descendants of
slaves to all “people of color,” is not exactly new ground for
him. But it does have the Virginia senator sounding more like the
independent thinker some
hoped for rather than the party-line Democrat he has mostly
been. It may not mean anything more significant than that he’d
like to be reelected in a state that no longer looks as
Democratic as it did in 2006-08, but it could be interesting to
watch.

Now Now Mr. Antle...we've been through this before now haven't we??? "It may not mean anything more significant than that he'd like to be reelected" is a possibility???
As long as those of us on the right constantly adhere to a philosophy of taking them at their word, agreeing with them when they are right, being glad for the good word whether it is a lie or not, thinking that they are finally being what they were expected to be....
WE WILL KEEP GETTING DEMOCRATS!!!!!!!!!
THEY ARE DEMOCRATS MR. ANTLE!!!!!!!
WEBB IS LYING AND WE ALL KNOW IT!!!!!
HE WANTS TO BE RE-ELECTED and THATS IT!!!!
ALL DEMOCRATS ARE ON THE OTHER SIDE...PERIOD.
You know what my fellow conservatives remind me of? Sometimes (God Love you) you people remind me of a homeowner who negotiates and finds the good things about the BURGLAR that you catch in your house....
Rule #1 HE CAME TO STEAL
Rule #2 HIS ONLY MOTIVE IS TO HAVE WHAT IS YOURS
Rule #3 EVERY COMPROMISE IS A BONUS FOR HIM...where he receives what you have...because he didn't bring anything to the talks
Rule#4Every talking point is geared to get you to forget...IT'S STILL YOUR HOUSE...AND HE'S IN IT
Rule#5 YOU Don'T HAVE TO APPRECIATE IT WHEN GIVES YOU 5 DOLLARS BACK OF THE 100000 HE STOLE FROM YOU.(AND NO..IT'S NOT A START)
Rule#6 (LAST ONE) As long as he is in your house....YOU ARE GETTING BAMBOOZLED...
THE ONLY ANSWER...
GET EM OUT.
WEB IS A FORKED TONGUED LIAR...
JUST LIKE THE REST OF THEM.
W. James Antle III | 7.27.10 @ 11:33AM
I'm not disputing any of that. But that doesn't mean he can't cast a few good votes before being voted out himself, if only in an attempt at self-preservation.
WL| 7.27.10 @ 11:39AM
HA!!! My first reply...I am sure of your intentions and believe them to be well. AND, you are probably right. I hope the same. Sometimes I just lose it and rant a bit.
Sorry about that, Good Day.
Derek Leaberry| 7.28.10 @ 1:14PM
You waste your time responding to such an incoherent rant, Mr. Antle.

MR. ANtle, I realize you weren't saying that you believe him...
BUT, I believe anything short of ....HE'S A LYING WINDBAG and they DO THIS EVERY SINGLE ELECTION...
Is giving haven to the BURGLARS.
So...I guess I'm an unreasonable wingnut to some of you...BUT I CAN'T TAKE GIVING ANYTHING TO THESE LIARS BUT SHARP DISDAIN AND UNFETTERED SCOFFING

WL,
I LOVED your rant. (smile). Old Texican VI here.
Never trust completely a man with a number after his name.
Sounds too much like aristocracy or something, sorta like fox hunting in proper succession.
Heck, In my "yout"...fox hunting horseback here in Texas was a race to the dogs. To hell with your name....or number.
Hey Mr. Antle. Do you fox hunt horseback?

Webb is the new Moynihan - say interesteing things in speeches and articles, then agonize over decisions before finally voting exactly as the Democrat leadership wants him to.
ncatty| 7.27.10 @ 12:39PM
Exactly right. The Dems talk like John Wayne at home but vote with Reid and Pelosi every time. Well, there is an exception. I would have to add Lindsay Graham's name after "Dems" above.
ncatty| 7.27.10 @ 12:41PM
A hint of reverse "strange new respect" from a TAS blogger to a Democrat.
Martin| 7.27.10 @ 12:56PM
Webb looks to me like one who could switch parties back to where he started. If he did, he wouldn't be a RINO and I'd probably support him.
Spicy Joker| 7.27.10 @ 1:24PM
Webb won't introduce any legislation to ban affirmative action. He's a useless prevaricator just like Mary Landrieu, Blanche Lincoln, and Benedict Nelson.
Oldefarte| 7.27.10 @ 1:24PM
Jim Webb's edotorial is entirely correct and accurate. These affirmative action, preferencial treatment policies of our government against non-minorities and for minorities should stop immediately [but of course this has absolutely no chance of happening as long as THE CHOSEN ONE and his Chicago radicals are in office; so the ultimate solution becomes to defeat them beginning in November]. The Brown vs. Bd. of Ed. case of 1954 ended discrimination in public schools [and Johnson's GREAT SOCIETY programs enhanced same], so ther is absolutely no reason to continue this racial discrimination for minorities and against non-minorities any longer!!!!
Real American| 7.27.10 @ 1:56PM
of course, that doesn't stop him from voting for a bunch of diversity measures and quotas that were in the health care takeover.

Do not get at all excited. Look at what JW voted for. Say What ? PHONEY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Senator Webb's claim that only 5 % of southerners owned slaves is beside the point. As Joseph Glatthaar indicates in his brilliant study "General Lee's Army: From Victory to Collapse", about 40 % of the southern soldiers came from homes that had slaves. And all the rest of the southern soldiery approved, at least to an extent, the institution of slavery. The Southern cause was an honorable cause, and the causes for the War Between the States were many, but it is incorrect of Senator Webb to assert that the poorer southern soldiers were some sort of unwitting victims fighting a war for the economic interests of plantation owners. It just wasn't so. The average southern soldier fought for his rights and for the fact that the Yankees invaded their homeland.
